oh-glasgow:

I find it fascinating that back in 2014, the same people that voted No because they hated Alex Salmond, and said that the SNP are a cult-like party… are the same ones that are applauding that Alex Salmond has started up the Alba Party… which is pretty much a one-man show.

I don’t care for Alex Salmond. I didn’t vote Yes in 2014 for him, I voted Yes because I wanted Scotland to be in control of its own destiny.

I don’t care for the Alba Party. I find that so many of their candidates and supporters are the very worst kind of independence voters, bigots, and terfs. And they can all get tae fuck.

The wildest part is seeing the media give Salmond all these column inches, when his party is polling at < 3%; [source]

image
image

Why, you’d have to wonder why the English-based, pro-Brexit (mostly), billionaire-owned media outlets would be getting Salmond stories and anti-SNP hit pieces out every single day. Nicola Sturgeon is by-far the most popular politician in Scotland / UK [source] whereas Alex Salmond is, well, not;

image

Could it be that they don’t want the SNP to get a majority like they did in 2011? Which resulted in them getting a mandate for an independence referendum in 2014?

The goal for me will always be Scottish independence. And the party that I feel that can best deliver that is going to be the SNP. We can certainly say that they need to do better… but which government would do a better job than them based on the amount we’re “”allowed”” to spend by Westminster?

The argument is going to be when can we have another referendum to decide this. But the biggest obstacle is that the SNP/Greens don’t get a majority in the elections. Because you know that the media would go with the “no appetite for independence!” line which is what they’ve been saying for the best part of a decade.

Anyway, fuck Alex Salmond, fuck the Tories, fuck Labour, fuck the Lib Dems, and fuck British loyalist George Galloway.

Give both your votes to the SNP.

I swear to fucking christ that if anyone following this blog votes Alba ahead of the SNP tomorrow that I will come to their house and say that while I respect their participation in democracy I will also batter them.

Do not fuck this up.

Fuck the tories

Irvine Welsh’s to Scottish Tories using the Trainspotting poster to attack the SNP.

Some of the things they’ve included are so baffling. ‘Choose Humza’? Aye, I will.

Also someone needs to make one of these right back at them because the fucking literal crimes that the Scottish tories have committed against the nation and her people are a hell of a lot more damning than ‘choose the hate crime bill’.

Good on Irvine Welsh for nae letting them use his association for their own gain.

I’ll say it until I die, fuck the tories.

Our lovely longterm former local MP, y'all.

He always seemed like a big enough piece of work in more than enough other ways, on the public political front. But yeah, looks like he is indeed likely as major a tool on a personal level.

Basically, the only redeeming feature there is that he really likes dogs, and has actually worked for some sensible animal welfare stuff. As Mr. C was just observing, that is SO FAR from enough.

(Brought to my attention by Mr. C, who wondered why Rosindell was trending when he got on Twitter earlier…and OH.)

A decent sample of political highlights in replies here, btw:

NEW - Conservative MP for Romford, Andrew Rosindell, won't be present on the Parliamentary Estate until further notice following his arrest on suspicion of indecent assault, sexual assault, rape, abuse of position of trust and misconduct in a public office. pic.twitter.com/kxFBHgG6IL — Alex Tiffin (@RespectIsVital) May 17, 2022

(I have basically read as much about this as my supply of Sanity Watchers Points will allow right now.)

Because of the shitty state of the welfare system in this country, I have run out of money five days before I get paid because I have to live on disability. Boris Johnson can spend 10 million redecorating his pad but I get to live below the poverty line and act grateful for it. Urgh.

I rely on UC (welfare) to live, and after spending £10,000,000 redecorating his house Boris thinks it’s ok to cut it by £87 a month, when I already live below the poverty line. How is this acceptable?

Just purchased this sexy little number:

Make non-binary a legally recognised gender identity in the UK

Non-binary genders are not recognised in UK law. The Gender Recognition Act 2004 (GRA) enables a person to change the sex recorded on their birth certificate, either from male to female or vice versa. It makes no provision for the recognition of any other gender.

On the parliment website, I have started a petition to get the government to recognise that non-binary is a valid gender and should be recognised as a legitimate legal choice.

Before the petition can go live and allow members of the public to sign it, it requires a minimum of five signatures from supporters.

If you’re in the UK, please click the link below to show your support.

https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/617783/sponsors/new?token=jPjq9_45w8uKQxfMuRfU

Well I have good news and bad news about this:

Bad news: My petition was rejected and will not be made live for others to sign.

Good news: Because there is already one that was recently submitted about a very similar issue.

So everyone who wants to show their support, I urge you all to click the link below and sign this petition. All you need is to be a UK resident.

At 10,000 signatures, the government has to release an official response. At 100,000 signatures, it has to be discussed in parliment.

This petition closes on 25th November.

Legally recognise genders such as Non-binary, Genderqueer and Intersex

How long do you think it’ll take for one of our fine MPs who earn more than my 3 person household combined tell us that we’ll be just fine if we all eat jacket potatoes with cheese for every meal?

My bet is two days.

‘The ONS data shows the paupers that eating cheap is possible. They’re clearly just not eating the right things’ - Some Tory.

Honestly being overworked makes people unobservant and passive and it literally kills people every day. People don’t seem to realize that an overworked nurse might not notice your sepsis symptoms and a tired truck driver might not notice your car when he’s merging into the lane. Failing to protect worker’s rights impacts nearly everyone

Our prime minister has been fined for breaking the law during lockdown - the first sitting prime minister of the UK to be found to have broken a law whilst in office. The “ministerial code” which is a loose selection of rules that ministers are meant to follow on and honour system says he should resign.

He’s not resigning. And his party is openly backing him.

The excuses offered are feeble. The war in Ukraine in of no relevance. The cost of living crisis was caused by him. And no, everyone else wasn’t doing the same thing.

The fine is pocket change to him, and even then Boris tried to block the investigation and the report and was clearly held to different standards than a “private individual” and given far more courtesy by the police. This undermines the principle of rule of law which is supposedly a “British value” and a cornerstone of liberal democracy.

It is a sign that we are sliding ever further towards authoritarianism.

It is very clear that Boris can do literally anything and his party will back him. MPs know it would be a bad time for an election, that there’s no one on the front bench who could easily steer them through it. They don’t want to lose their seats or their spot on the gravy train.

Meanwhile, people will die of cold or starvation or suicide or not being able to get vital medication or of panic and despair at not being able to pay their bills leading to suicide. Children will go cold and hungry.

But it’s alright, because we’re protecting the profits of energy companies, and your taxes are going straight into the pocket of Tory party doners.

They know the end is nigh, but they’re determined to get every last bit of cash they can out of the British people first.

This is a democracy that is no longer functional, a country being run solely for the benefit of the super rich. It’s not enough to say “hold on for two years and we can vote them out” because very clearly the whole system is broken. And anyway, people will be dead by then.

Electoral politics, party politics are not the answer. We need something more radical.

I remember the sick dread I felt after the last election, knowing that as a result of Johnson’s win, people would die. Disabled people, poor people, Black people would die unnecessary deaths.

But god, I could never have imagined how many. So many tens of thousands of additional lives lost, still being lost, to these authoritarian, plutocratic kleptocrats.

Hello it’s me, your tired-but-friendly internet queer who got financially screwed over by an abusive parent and could really use some help!

Not to go into it too much, but escaping from an abusive situation doesn’t always mean escaping from the damage that person has and will continue to cause you if it’s within their control to screw your life up more.

Anyway, I’m trying to manage a sudden and horrible situation which is going to cost me upwards of £5k, but right now I’ve given as much as I can towards that cost to keep them off my back while I work out what the hell to do with payday too far away and no idea how much trouble this is going to end up causing me.

I’m barely managing to keep my mental health together and I have two cats to feed and the price of literally everything has skyrocketed, so I could really use some help just trying to keep my head above water.

If you can’t or don’t want to help, this is not for you, I promise. If you do and are able, my ko-fi is here or my PayPal is here, I don’t have cashapp or venmo because I’m in the UK, but if you want to talk anything through with me first that’s more than okay. Also I am open to pictures of pets and other cute things.

I’m going to drink some tea, try not to scream, and remind myself that one day he finally won’t be able to have any impact on my life anymore.

Thanks for reading

On top of this I now have to pay £180 under my shared care agreement (private diagnosis so I have to pay for my annual checkups.)

Since the above situation is very much still a thing, I really can’t afford that and without the check up my GP will no longer be able to prescribe me my meds.

I’m looking into getting my shared care moved entirely under the NHS but in the meantime if you’d like to help out my paypal is here and my ko-fi is here.

Thank you
