festeringsilence:

An anon asked me for Erik x Raoul in their masquerade attire. Red Death is surprisingly very easy to draw compared to Raoul’s hussar uniform; my hand is dead from that;(

I haven’t been happy with my linework lately so I used this as an exercise to practice my lines.

The Hussar’s Busby is, in effect, a shako covered by cloth or fur. These hats reached the height of their popularity in the late 19th century. Primarily worn by cavalrymen (thus, the name), the busby is not to be confused with the bearskin, which is much taller and, typically, has a rounded top. Both of these busbies are from Prussian hussar regiments in the late 19th century. The inscription on both translates to “With God For King and Fatherland.”

yakumtsaki:

once again ive out-niched myself but im a huge hussar-boo so this was a labor of love. so i originally did a haphazard outfit conversion of this deco hussar armorby @lowedeusforthis pic but since lowedeus liked it and i owe their hood deco my life i fixed it up, threw in the helmet and here we are! i was just gonna send it over to them but i figured it might be useful for historical games etc

so this is an outfit and an accessory helmet, both are only for AM and AF. i paired the outfit with @gryning’stournament of honor boots. the mesh has some clipping issues in the arms due to the armor layer which u can also see in the preview lol but it looks ok most of the time, unfortunately no morphs bc i couldnt get them to look right with the armor

the helmet wont clip with short male hairs, for female hairs it seems like everything but slicked-back low buns will clip, i recommend my juliette edit which fit it like a glove. i also included the decorative version of the helmet that poland is holding in my original pic, it’s under sculptures and costs 800bux

download armor: maxis handsorsmooth hands

download helmet

Yay! I’ve been waiting this since the release of my conversion! Thank you!

ARMOUR THURSDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Winged Hussars of Poland!!!!

Instead of ostrich feathers, the husaria men wore wooden arcs attached to their armour at the back and raising over their heads. These arcs, together with bristling feathers sticking out of them, were dyed in various colours in imitation of laurel branches or palm leaves, and were a strangely beautiful sight to behold … – Jędrzej Kitowicz(1728–1804).

The hussars were famous for their huge ‘wings’, a wooden frame carrying eagle, ostrich, swan or goose feathers. In the 16th century, characteristic painted wings or winged claws began to appear on cavalry shields.

The most common theory is that the hussars wore the wings because they made a loud, clattering noise which made it seem like the cavalry was much larger than in reality and frightened the enemy’s horses. Other possibilities included the wings being made to defend the backs of the men against swords and lassos, or that they were worn to make their own horses deaf to the wooden noise-makers used by the Ottoman and the Crimean Tatars.
