“The Lost World” (1992). It’s not hard to figure out why we’re not still talking about this one: when it comes to dinosaur movies, Jurassic Park came out a few months later, and it feels like it’s on the wrong side of a truly seismic shift where dinosaur movie fans started to demand more.

John Rhys-Davies plays Professor Challenger, easily Arthur Conan Doyle’s second most memorable character, a deep voiced, irascible, contentious, fearless visionary who is almost like a Brit Teddy Roosevelt, a great scientist but who believes in the full-contact version of science, resolving scientific arguments with an angry armwrestling contest. John Rhys Davies was born to be Professor Challenger, just like he was born to be Gimli and born to be Holly in a film production of She. John Rhys Davies was also the most absolutely buyable voice of the Marvel hero Mighty Thor ever, during the Fantastic Four cartoon.

"We shot a sequence, Liv Tyler and I, in Lorien, and we’re walking around, and it’s when I’m still wearing clothes that are more like something you’d see Legolas wearing. I have no beard. I have really long hair, and it’s partly in a braid. And, I’m wearing definitely elvish kind of clothing. I look like some young elvish lord. I think I’m barefoot, walking in these flowers with her. And because of our aging thing, we look similar. I look a little younger than usual, the no beard helps and all that.“

Hey ho! To the bottle I go
To heal my heart and drown my woe
Rain may fall and wind may blow
But there still be
Many miles to go
Sweet is the sound of the pouring rain
And the stream that falls
From hill to plain
Better than rain or rippling brook
Is a mug of beer inside this Took!
