A month ago when we first saw that the Elves have short hair in the new show I was like “ew not wtf this is an abomination” but then I cut my own hella long elven hair off irl and now look like Amazon Elrond and am nowlike
And am now accidentally all for the short hair elf thing
I dislike the use of ‘political’ in such a context; it seems to me false. It seems clear to me that Frodo’s duty was 'humane’ not political. He naturally thought first of the Shire, since his roots were there, but the quest had as its object not the preserving of this or that polity, such as the half republic half aristocracy of the Shire, but the liberation from an evil tyranny of all the 'humane’*–including those, such as 'easterlings’ and Haradrim, that were still servants of the tyranny.
Denethorwas tainted with mere politics: hence his failure, and his mistrust of Faramir. It had become for him a prime motive to preserve the polity of Gondor, as it was, against another potentate, who had made himself stronger and was to be feared and opposed for that reason rather than because he was ruthless and wicked. Denethor despised lesser men, and one may be sure did not distinguish between orcs and the allies of Mordor. If he had survived as victor, even without use of the Ring, he would have taken a long stride towards becoming himself a tyrant, and the terms and treatment he accorded to the deluded peoples of east and south would have been cruel and vengeful. He had become a 'political’ leader: sc. Gondor against the rest.
But that was not the policy or duty set out by the Council of Elrond. Only after hearing the debate and realizing the nature of the quest did Frodo accept the burden of his mission. Indeed the Elves destroyed their own polity in pursuit of a 'humane’ duty. This did not happen merely as an unfortunate damage of War; it was known by them to be an inevitable result of victory, which could in no way be advantageous to Elves. Elrond cannot be said to have a political duty or purpose.

i just am DYING for some platonic co-parenting with Elrond & Gilraen raising Estel like— why do people constantly leave Gilraen out of Estel fics when you have a perfectly good opportunity for some platonic coparenting content!
Elrond entertaining Estel so Gilraen can take a goddamn nap
Estel behaves better for Elrond when it comes to bathtime but in general is just allergic to getting clean but in GENERAL this is Elrond’s department because there’s minimal small feral child wrassling
Gilraen falling asleep with Estel on a couch somewhere and Elrond tucking them in fondly
‘hey can i do the thing’ ‘what did your mom say’ *mumbling* –she said no– ‘yeah your mom is absolutely correct’
Estel getting a cold or something and new single mom Gilraen freaking out and getting nervous but Elrond, who has raised countless little Edain children going ‘he’ll be fine don’t worry’ and helping them through it

Elrond filling that father-shaped hole in Estel’s life without erasing Arathorn
Always making sure that Estel knows who his dad is (without directly telling him, you know, the important part about him being the heir to Gondor– he knows who his dad is on a personal level, not a political one), Elrond being able to tell both Estel and Gilraen stupid stories about what Arathorn was like when he was small!!
Lots of reassurances to Gilraen that she’s doing a great job
Emotionally supporting each other
Mutually supporting each other’s rules and boundaries when it comes to both how they raise Estel together, and also about (healthy!) discipline– healthy discussions around how to keep rules consistent
Elrond constantly being so careful not to overstep. Gilraen constantly affirming that he’s allowed to Dad
