#justice for breonna

LIVE

It’s time to wake up.

This image has been in my head for a while, but after attending the George Floyd protest on Monday. I knew I had to do it now. I seen beautiful people of all races standing up to police for the unjust treatment of black lives. It was surreal to me, but it also reminded me that there are quite a few people who refuse to acknowledge that this is even a problem. So this piece is specifically for you… time to wake up. Because honestly the rest of us are very tired. Tired of racism, police brutality, and all the systems that support these things. I’m a fan of addressing problems at their root. Police violence toward black people is a byproduct of white supremacy and racism. Please do what you can to stand up against it. #blacklivesmatter justice for #breonnataylor #georgefloyd #ahmaudarbery #tamirrice #mikebrown #trayvonmartin #sandrabland #johncrawford #ericgarner #rekiaboyd #ayannajones

JUSTICE FOR BREONNA TAYLOR

IF THERE NO JUSTICE FOR HER. WE SHALL NEVER GIVE THEM FUCKING PEACE

Tay Keith told me to fuck it up and I will!!!!!

Y'all with me or y'all scared??? Cause I’m not talking about marching nor yelling through megaphones. Change begins within. That means the plans have to change. The formula must change. The method must change. Because EVERYTHING that has been done in the past didn’t work. Time has passed. It didn’t work. The era has changed, but the fight is the same. That means that we are more knowledgeable about the battle. The tactics can be reprogrammed to fit the narrative along with the weapons that we now possess.

Busting windows out of insured businesses isn’t bringing attention to injustice. It’s creating avenues for the rich to continue to sit home and profit without work while more blacks are being hurt and becoming casualties in a one sided war.

We are becoming mascots and cheerleaders for our own deaths while continuously listening to degrading music penned by the brothers and sisters who should be supporting and rebuilding their own communities.

Each day, a black community is being infiltrated by whites and they are giving you free paint and brushes to garnish former trap houses and plant gardens while they move their 501c organizations into your grandmother’s old home and build their grandeur mansions into the vacant lots. These are properties that you’ll never be able to afford.

Your ‘hood’ is no longer a safehaven for you because your son, sister, Aunt, husband, nephew, daughter, Uncle, and wife now look suspicious when walking because the predator is now pretending to be afraid so that they can have you legally ejected from your habitats.

Neighbors are killing us out of fabricated fear while law enforcement officers are killing us out of fabricated protection.

Think about that!!!

Change the dynamics!!!

Two years later, still no justice.

In the middle of the night on March 13, 2020, Breonna Taylor, a 26-year-old EMT, was senselessly killed by police as she slept in her own home. Breonna was a daughter, friend, sister, and hero in her community.

Since her death, no one has been charged for her murder. The only semblance of justice that we have seen is the passing of the Breonna Law in Kentucky. But there is still much work to be done to ensure that other innocent people do not continue to lose their lives in the same manner.

Your name will forever be on our minds, in our hearts, and on our lips as we SAY YOUR NAME.

Rest In Power, Breonna ️

Breonna Taylor’s birthday is this Friday, June 5th. There are still no arrests or charges for her murder and little attention paid to her case. Here are a list of actions you can do on or before Friday: https://msha.ke/30flirtyfilm/

Please celebrate her and continue seeking justice for her.

Justice for George Floyd. Justice for Breonna Taylor. Justice for Ahmaud Arbery.

“Bring Me Justice” mural, painted in honor of Breonna Taylor. Approx 12'w x 8'h, acrylics and spray paint.

Oakland has given carte blanche to artists to paint murals on the boarded up businesses downtown. I’ve been marching and donating and signing petitions, but I wanted to do more, and when @thecraftyavenger (on insta) pinged me and asked if I wanted to do a mural, I said hell yes. This is at the corner of 19th and Broadway in Oakland, for as long as the Bike Station leaves it up.

The composition is inspired by Klimt’s University of Vienna ceiling panel “Medicine,” because Breonna was an EMT. The flowers were chosen for specific meanings:

King Protea: change, diversity, strength, resourcefulness, transformation, daring, and courage

Chestnut Flower: Do Me Justice

Yarrow: Healing, war

Design: @elizabethpatricianart

Badass Crew: @thecraftyavenger and @doctorshiny

Breonna Taylor, a 26-year-old ER technician and former EMT, was lying in her own bed when police broke in and shot her eight times without so much as announcing their presence. Say her name. Do the work. Text. Call. Sign. Donate.

Civil Rights Movement, 1960s.

I’m coming out of hiding for a little to, I guess, add another voice to an already deafening protest over justice for George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and many more who have faced their terrible end through police brutality.

I’ve been trying to rack my brain about what I should write to accompany these photos, but it’s hard to settle on one single thought about an issue that has existed for centuries and an injustice that has taken on many forms over time. Any person, of any color, with any capacity to sympathize should understand that being black does not equate to a death sentence, and that they should instead share that same tenderness they reserved for their own to their black brothers and sisters who have been murdered or jailed by a system that has been built only to benefit the white man.

There are many ways to help the cause, the simplest being educating yourself and others through word of mouth, social media, or signing petitions and calling for people with power to do something. And IF YOU CAN, donate! Hundreds of protestors have been arrested braving the full heat of aggression escalated by the police, failed by the same people who promise to protect and serve, and some may not be in the economic state to afford bail.

There are hundreds of charities and organizations you can lend a helping hand to. These are just ones I’ve personally made donations to:

I understand that the pandemic has rendered millions of people jobless and struggling to make ends meet, so there is no obligation for you to give away money that you need for you to live. Make a difference another way! To those who CAN donate, please do! You don’t have to be a millionaire to do so, and don’t you dare be ashamed of even just a $5 donation!

Google Doc of Black Lives Matter Funds/Petitions/Actionables.

Another Google Doc of more petitions and additional resources.

ALSO! (sorry this is turning out to be a very long post ahaha) I noticed there are so many artists on Tumblr who are commissioning art and donating the profits to the BLM. So show some support for them as well!
