#knights of the round table
i firmly believe there is an entire season of bbc merlin where the knights and arthur and merlin just go on monster of the week quests. there’s an overarching mythology and the looming danger ahead but it’s okay, because this episode, we just have to deal with some errant beast. they talk by campfires and make up dumb songs on patrols. there’s an entire episode focused on what gwaine does on days off. they all love each other very much and that’s all that matters. this was never on screen but it’s real to me and i promise you it is real and it happened and you should join me in this collective delusion
Have a Gawain watercolour sketch …
I’m finding joy in drawing again (I didn’t for a while) and I’ve been tinkering with my basic watercolour set - it’s a 12-pigment Winsor & Newton Cotman set of which I’m replacing the student-grade paints with artist-grade ones as they run out. I hope to gain some confidence with these… (Some 20 years after I bought my first watercolour set, some confidence would be nice, no?)
I’m actually thinking of doing the next two pages of the comic in watercolour, just for fun. Still pondering if that would be a good idea or a bad one.
Happy anniversary to The Life of Brian!!! Can’t believe it’s been 40 years!!!
MERLIN
The relationship between Arthur and Merlin at the point of the end of season three is something different.
When Arthur tells Gwaine and Elyan to take Gaius and go to the woods it seems for a moment he completely forgot about Merlin. Only when he turns back to him he’s like “oh yea you’re not my shadow after all, you’re your own person you may wanna go with them” - because let’s face it for most of the time Arthur treats Merlin like some kind of inseparable part of himself (when Arthur goes somewhere alone he’s taking Merlin, which in my interpretation is not alone, but I feel like for them it is - they are two sides of the same coin and that coin is going alone on a quest).
And Merlin is like “nah” because his place is with Arthur. And Arthur seems pleased. Which is funny because Gwaine or even Elyan would be more helpful in a battle (at least from the non magical perspective). But no. Arthur want Merlin and Merlin is okay with that.
Then at the round table when everybody except Merlin devoted themselves to battle and to Arthur, Arthur is like “Merlin get up we’re the same coin you can’t split the coin”. And Merlin is like “I know I just wanted to be asked personally”.
It’s like they are inseparable. But not like at the beginning when Merlin was clinging to Arthur so he can protect him. It’s unanimous now.
Arthur “I’m Arthur and that’s the other part of me - Merlin” Pendragon
And Merlin “even when he goes alone we’re going together” the Young Warlock
absolutely obsessed with the idea of the modern knights all packed into sir leon’s soccer mom van
there’s a bumper sticker that says “baby on board” and it’s talking about arthur
lancelot has permanent shotgun dibs but gwaine jumps in the front seat ahead of him every time and they fight about it for at least 5 minutes before leon says that neither of them can have it and elyan ends up sitting there instead.
one time they leave arthur at a gas station by accident. one time they leave gwaine at a gas station on purpose
Galahad-“Sometimes, I don’t realize an event was traumatizing until I mention it in a joke and Arthur pulls me aside and asks if I need to talk about anything.”
Mordred + being teased by the knightsfor@zoingfandom - happy holidays! (13/26)
I like to think all of Camelot thought Merlin was just the biggest flirt and that everyone was involved with him at some point because like most of them probably thought he had a thing for either Gwen or Morgana at some point, he managed to get Gwaine and Lancelot into his room and is very close with both, the rest of the knights are also very close to him and Arthur let’s him get away with saying anything to him and is protective of him at times.
All of the kingdom think Merlin has the best dating experience of them all and when Arthur finds out about his supposed ‘experience’ from one of his people he’s astounded.
