#ladies’ skating

LIVE

“Is there a reason that all of the Eteri girls’ are this lean and quite skinny at this age when the other ladies from Japan or Korean are not as skinny and labeled the ‘skinny type?’ Sure, it could be genetics, but it’s also such an odd coincidence that literally almost all of her female students are known as the really small and thin as a rail type.”

“It confuses me because it seems that Team Tutberidze and Team Hamada use a very similar technique, but it doesn’t sustain the cases of the Eteri’s girls, whereas for the Hamada’s girls, it seems more sustainable.”

“What sucks for Evgenia is that due to 3A being so strong, Kamila Valieva being the next star, and Alina coming back from her break, Evgenia has almost no chance at the Olympics because Eteri’s students get the ‘Eteri political bonus’ from the judges and the benefit of winning the slots from RusFed. I think she is screwed and that sucks.”

“Kostornaya said in a recent interview that she plans to go to the 2022 Olympics then retire to focus on her studies and become a neurosurgeon, and I’m so sad that we won’t be able to admire her beautiful skating longer, but omg, I’m also so happy that she found something she’s passionate about. So many skaters don’t know what to do with themselves after retirement, but she has a clear plan, and she’s smart and ambitious, and can achieve everything that she sets her mind to.”

“I honestly wouldn’t be too sad if Aliona Kostornaia did retire after Beijing (assuming she goes), considering how much she seems so set in becoming a doctor/surgeon. She’d be around the college entry age for most by then and only the Lord knows how she would balance Medschool and Sports.”

“Honestly? I’m still bitter and angry that rusfed heavily favored Maria over Elena and did everything they could to insure she made the Olympic team and not Elena. And for what? Just look at where her career went.”

“The way Alina Zagitova handled herself at the meet and greet after her ‘Sleeping Beauty’ show really disappointed me. Although everyone deserves their personal space, and I understand, Alina is a celebrity and a lot of Russian children look up to her, naturally, they’re not going to be able to contain their excitement when they see her. Why not say, ‘I’m sorry, I don’t really like to be touched, especially not out of the blue like that,’ instead of being cold about it!”

“I know that good PCS/musicality/artistry is something you can’t just wave a wand around and instantly have, but I wish I had a wand for Trusova. Sometimes watching her inbetween elements and during her SS is a chore. Which is a shame because I love her so much.”

“People can only appreciate these amazing little girls when (and if) they burn out and are replaced. When they are at the top, all anybody can do is (nothing, but) nitpick and ‘hope that they don't’ get derailed by growth spurts and injuries.”

“People (mainly fans) in this sport seem to get way too much enjoyment out of all of teenage girls’ struggles, like back in 2018 with Alina and Evgenia. It gets uncomfortable sometimes. They’re athletes, not reality TV stars.”
