Hi! So this is chapter three and chapter three will have 2 parts because its already at 3k plus words and I don’t have the energy to post it all ,but the good news is that it is edited this time! Hope you enjoy ! Part two will be finished and Posted tomorrow and than I will try to get chapter 4 out next week ! Also message me if you want to be tagged!

“I’m sorry, but who’s y/n? “You Questioned Loki. Loki looked at you like you were stupid before replying “You’re y/n. Do you not remember? “You shook your head no in response “sorry, but you probably have me confused with someone else. My name is Red.” Loki looked dumbfounded “Pardon, but Red? Seriously, that is your new name?” he put his hands on his hips before ranting “I mean come on. Did they just not know what to call you looked around and saw a red item and thought to themselves “Oh look, a red book, let’s just call her Red.” “I mean come on” he looked over at Mobius “Red?”

You made eye contact with Mobius before looking back at Loki “Are you done now? Because if you, are I’d like to carry on with my day.” Loki looked at you again with a sad expression this time “do you really not know who you are?” at this point you were fed up “Of course I know who I am! My name is Red, and I’ve worked at the TVA all my life!” and with that you stormed out the door. Loki had looked disappointed at your answer before turning back to Mobius “can we go now?” Mobius said yes before leading Loki out the room.

There were very few things in your life that made you confused, if any at all really, but Loki was a complete puzzle. What did he mean by “do you really not know who you are?” of course I know who I am, you huffed to yourself. A dull ache in your head and a flash of memory caused you to trip and run in to the wall. “Ouch!” you Hollard, rubbing your head while getting yourself off the floor. “Are you okay there Red?” Mobius asked. Him and Loki had left the room shortly after you stormed out and were headed the same direction. “Yes, I’m fine I just got this really sharp pain in my head, and I freaked out and fell.” Brushing yourself off you turned around to face them “What are guys doing anyway? Are you following me?” Mobius shook his hands “No, we were just on our way to get lunch. Well, I was on my way to get lunch, Loki here is going to the office to learn more about the TVA. Matter of fact why don’t you go show him where it is, so I don’t have to?” You opened your mouth to protest but Mobius walked away before you could get a chance to say anything.

You looked back at Loki before walking ahead of him “Are you coming along or what?” He ran, catching up to you, setting a brisk pace. “So, I get to see your office?” you rolled your eyes at him “just shut it.”

“This is my desk and that one over there is Mobius’s, but you can sit there.” You said pointing to the desk adjacent from your own. “Sit” you told him. “Now just stay and listen, okay?” you walked to your own desk, finishing up paperwork. Loki looked around him for a bit seeing other people work and walk by and then looked at you. “How did you get here?” he thought to himself “what did they do to you?” he looked at you for a while, but you had not noticed being too engross in your work. He then looked at the desk in front of him spotting a magazine on jet skies before that stupid animated clock he saw earlier on the television started talking to him. “Alright ya’ll what happens when a nexus event branches past red line?” the clock asked Loki. Loki, still reading, answered nonchalantly “very bad things.” You looked up from your paperwork hearing Loki’s reply and quietly laughed. You were learning quickly that he had a smart mouth. You noticed the clock did not find it amusing though, putting her hands on her hips and frowning.” Come on Loki what is it?” Loki sighed saying “It’s when the TVA can no longer reset the Nexus event.” You could tell by his tone that he was getting annoyed. You did not blame him though, that stupid clock annoyed the hell out of you too. The clock continued on seeming satisfied with his answer “right, and that would lead to destruction of the timeline and the collapse of reality as we know it.” Loki put his magazine down questioning the clock “can you hear me?” “Are you a recording or are you alive?” By now you were to busy hearing Loki’s conversation with the clock to finish your work. Your smile growing bigger by the minute as he continued to argue with her. The clocked looked up in thought “uhhhhh, sort of both.” Loki shook his head while he rolled up the magazine. You could tell where this was going and tried your hardest not to laugh at him. He looked over to the side at you. He had noticed your smile and smiled back before trying to smack the clock. He continued trying to hit the clock before she jumped back into the computer screen. Mobius had walked in and looked at you weirdly seeing you smile. In all your time of being here he hadn’t seen you smile like that. That is odd. Mobius went up to Loki “Is that my jet ski magazine? Put it down. Gear up there’s been an attack we have to go.” He then looked over to you “You coming along?” You looked at the mountain of paperwork and then to Mobius “Of course I will.”

“C20 and her team went dark shorty after they jumped to the 1985 branch. All signs look to another ambush. We’ve grabbed enough temporal aura to know if it’s our Loki variant, but which kind of Loki remains unknown.” The women said briefing you all on the mission at hand. You had a hard time listening though due to the dull ache in your head coming back. What was wrong with you? You have never felt like this before. Another flash crossed your mind, this time you could see it clearly. A women blonde hair and kind eyes and a little boy black hair and green eyes. The boy reminded you of Loki in a way, but that was odd. How could that be? Another ache caused you to bend over clutching your head. The only one who noticed was Loki. He wanted to ask what was wrong but figured now was not the best time. He turned his attention back to the women that stood in front of them all before replying to her “The lesser kind to be clear.” He said, looking at everyone. You rolled your eyes at him standing up straight again. The dull ache slowly dissipating. The women sighed and told him “Let me see the back of that jacket.” Loki looked confused, but complied showing the back, allowing everyone to see the big bold letters of ‘Variant’ written across it. They all chuckled amongst themselves before Loki turned back around “Very subtle, well done.” he said, the women then replied” I don’t want anyone out there to forget what you are.” “Oh, your only hope to capturing a murder.” He spoke. “No, a cosmic mistake,” she said.

You hadn’t paid attention to the rest of the conversation to busy trying to figure out who that woman and that boy you saw were. You looked back at Loki, him noticing your stare and looking back at you. He gave you a kind smile but frowned when he saw you holding you head again. “Are you okay?” he whispered to you. You looked up at him before softly replying yes and looking away. Mobius cleared his throat at you two before speaking and pulling out a device. Explaining the many different Loki variant before Loki interrupted him. “Duplicating Casting.” He spoke. Mobius shut the device off before saying “Illusion projection.” Loki shook his finger at him “they’re two completely different powers actually.”

“How?” Mobius asked. Loki than went off on a tangent about how Illusion projection and Duplication casting were different. They all had looked very confused, but Loki had looked proud of himself. He wasn’t wrong though, somehow you faintly recalled someone telling you the exact same thing once. Maybe it was a dream, but why would you dream of illusion projection and duplication casting? Either way you were confused as to why you knew those things, but you weren’t going to question it further.

“We’re gonna break into two teams. Including myself, Red, and Professor Loki.” Mobius said. You nodded, clearing your head before following everyone.

You all had ended up in what seemed to be some sort of fair. Why these people found this something worth while you would never know, but you did like some of the clothes the people were wearing. They looked cool. Looking back at the group you noticed you strayed off a bit and joined back up with Mobius and Loki. You listened in on their conversation, but it hadn’t interested you that much. Just Mobius explaining common sense to Loki as to why they couldn’t just show up to when the attack took place. You all had entered a large tent. “So, he’s taking hostages now?” You had heard the women ask another minute man. The man said something, and she said something back before Loki made a comment about underestimating him. The women ignored Loki before ordering everyone to fan out and search for C20. “And hurry up because we’re at three units until red line.” She spoke. “Come on, let’s go.” You told Loki and Mobius walking off, but Loki shouted “wait.” and said “If you leave this tent, you’ll end up like them. “Mobius walked up to him before asking “what do you see?” “I see a scheme. “But it wasn’t Loki that said it, it was you. Mobius looked at you tilting his head “what?” you ignored him turning your attention to Loki “You see it too don’t you Loki?” you asked. “Yes” he said “and in that scheme I see myself. “He started walking before continuing “We have a saying in Asgard. Where there are wolfs ears” he said “wolfs teeth are near. It means to be aware of your surroundings.” You finished for him. Mobius and the rest of the team looked at you strangely, but Loki looked like he was proud of you. He gave you a smile before standing straight again. “How did you know what he was going to say Red?” Mobius asked. You looked at him saying you didn’t know and that you were just as confused as he was. How did you know what Loki was going to say? Were you a mind reader now?

Loki continued saying the TVA and the Gods of Asgard were one of the same “Drunk with power and blind to the truth.” He spoke. “Those you underestimate will devour you” he said towards the women leading the group, walking closer to her. “You underestimate me. Just as you underestimate this lesser Loki. Which is why you walk into one wolfs mouth after another.” He spoke.

A device started beeping, signaling it was almost time to leave and reset. “Two units. He is wasting our time!” the women said, walking away from Loki. “We need to Look for C20.” The women told Mobius and you. “It’s a trap.” You told her. Loki shook his head in agreement “That’s exactly what the variant wants you to do. He’s waiting for you outside this tent.” He spoke. A minute man spoke up asking “do you want me to reset the charges?” but before the women could reply you interrupted “No, he wants Loki. He’s the key to his plan. “You said, Loki spoke up” He knows that I’m stronger than him.” The women looked frustrated before looking back down at the device “one unit left.” She spoke. Loki continued about how he could deliver the Variant but asked for assurances that he wouldn’t be disintegrated when the job is done. Mobius looked away from you, confused on how you knew this stuff, and then looked to Loki. “Right” Mobius said keeping a long pause before telling everyone “He’s lying, just playing games. Reset the timeline.” Mobius turned back to Loki, pointing a finger at him “you had me for a second.” “Well, here’s a thing. My ears are sharp to.” And then he walked away form Loki.

“Red can I speak to you?” Mobius asked you while you two walked through the portal back into the TVA. “Sure, what about?” you answered, looking at him. “How did you know what Loki was going to say?” “Did you two plan that all out or what? What is going on? Has he done something to you?” “Made up lies or false promises to you to get you to help him out?” It was one question after another with him and you had to stop him before he asked you even more. Putting your hand out to stop him you cut him off. “Okay first of all I don’t know how I knew. I just did, okay? “Putting your hand down you continued “second, no we didn’t plan out anything why would you even think that!” “And third of all, no, he didn’t do anything to me and No! he didn’t make any promises or lies towards me! “Exasperated, you quilted down “now if you’ll excuse me, I’m hungry and would like to eat lunch.” With your head down, that dull ache coming back, you headed towards the cafeteria.

Mobius sighed and went to the judge’s office. “Is it just me or does this office just get bigger and bigger?” “Where did you get that one, the snow globe?” He asked her, pointing to the shelf across from him. “I love those, I don’t remember bringing you back that case.” The women popped open a bottle and poured herself a glass “You’re not the only analyst working or me.” She told him. “What would you say. I’m your favorite one?” He asked her as she went to go sit down. “Let’s talk about the mission you just botched.” She told Mobius. Mobius looked like he wanted to do anything other than that. She passed him his own drink “You might need this for discussion.” He accepted the drink lifting it up and saying, “I hope it’s a double.” And then drinking it. “This variant is insubordinate, stubborn, unpredictable. Sounds like someone I know.” The women said. Mobius put his glass down and nodded his head “Sounds like someone I know.” “Listen Ramona, I’m sorry. I’ve realized that my methods with this, you know, with this Loki are controversial.” Ramona interrupted him saying “Don’t, bringing a dangerous variant into the field is controversial.” “Yeah, it didn’t go exactly how I wanted it to today, but here’s what we did find out the variant likes to stall for time and the other will do the same thing. Because understanding this Loki helps me get closer to the one we’re chasing, right?” he said and then continued “oh, and also another thing we found out is that y/n or Red as we were told to call her is regaining her memory and I think it has something to do with Loki being here.” Ramona looked away before saying “I need you to make sure y/n doesn’t regain her memory, okay? She’s one of our most powerful assets and she can be extremely useful to us if need be. We do not need her regaining her thoughts and screwing everything up like she’s already done.” “You and I both know why we keep her here.” Mobius shook his head in understanding “Yes, I do, because she’s already destroyed the timeline once and destroyed the multiverse and we don’t need it to happen again.” He said. Ramona sighed “Look I know you have a soft spot for broken things, but Loki is an evil lying scourge. That is the part he plays on the sacred timeline.” “And y/n is his lover, his partner in crime and if she finds out or he tells her who she truly is. It’s on you Mobius.” She told him.

After leaving Ramona’s office Mobius walked off with Loki trailing after him. Loki explaining himself to Mobius, but Mobius wasn’t having any of it and called Loki out on his bullshit before the two walked into the elevator. Mobius had left Loki at a desk putting him to work “Work like your life depends on it. I’m gonna go grab a snack.” He said before walking away. Loki sat down looking through all the files on the desk finding nothing of interest. After that he decided to go up to the women at the front desk, but she was too busy typing on her computer to notice him. After a few attempts of trying to get her to answer she looked up from her keyboard. “Can I help you?” she asked. “Yes, I’m on some important TVA business. Follow up to a field mission.” He leaned on her desk “You know how it goes.”

You had gotten back from lunch, the whole ordeal with Mobius behind you know, you were looking through some files for another case you were working on when you heard a familiar voice. Peaking out from the isle you spotted Loki at the front desk talking to the older women. “Um, I’d like all files pertaining the creation to the TVA, please.” He asked her. At that you silently laughed. “What and idiot.” You thought. “Those are classified.” She told him. “Okay I’d like all files pertaining to the beginning of time.” He asked. “Those are classified.” She said again. At this point you sat your files down and walked over to stand next to Loki. “Hi, can’t help but notice you’re having a little trouble here so why don’t I help you.” You placed a hand on Loki’s shoulder looking at the women. Loki looked at you “Y/n, what are you doing here?” he asked. You looked up at him “Again my name is not y/n, and I was here because I was doing work of my own, but I overheard you and thought I’d show you what you are allowed to see so you can stop pestering this older woman.” He pointed to the lady at the desk and said, “but that’s her job.” You shook your head and patted his back before looking at the women “I got it from here, sorry about him.” The lady rolled her eyes and continued typing.

You walked along the aisle with Loki tagging along until you got to the right spot. “No, no, no, AH HA! Here we go!” You than threw a stack of files into Loki’s hand. He looked down reading the file “Variant Case file” and then the name “Laufeyson, Loki” He sighed before following you back to the desk. You opened your own files while Loki had started to read his own. “Destruction of Asgard” was written in red bold letters at the top of the file. You looked up from your own files to see Loki’s disappointed face. He looked sad, but about what you didn’t know. Loki kept reading. Total Planetary destruction. Zero Variance energy detected (Entire Civilization Annihilated). Casualties: 9,719. Loki had looked up at you and then back to the file. “What is it?” You asked him. “I think I figured out how to catch our Variant. Follow me y/n we need to find Mobius.”

Chapter 2

Hi! So this chapter will not follow episode two it’s more so a chapter for readers and Loki’s history.Don’t worry there will be more to the readers and Loki’s history but I want to take it slowly. This is more so just how you two met and how you got together( at the time of writing this I haven’t even seen episode 2 yet.. so..) anyway. Enjoy!!!

You had known Loki sense you were a child. Your and his Mother were friends long before you were born or even a thought. Your mother was a witch as well , teaching you the ways of magic. When you mother passed Friga had taken you under her wing and continued your magic lessons along with Loki.

Loki and you were two peas in a pod. Always pulling pranks on Thor together, walking in the gardens, going to lessons with his mother or just reading silently together . His mother knew that you two were destined for each other. Friga had know from the first time she saw you two interact. It used to be an on going game between her and your parents on when the two of you would finally admit your feelings for each other ,but they also knew that you were both still young .

As time went on and you both got older it was only natural for the two of you to grow apart in some aspects. Of course you two were still close, but Loki had become more reserved and distant. Always seeming to avoid you or make illusions to trick you. You hadn’t known at that time ,but Loki had come to terms with his feelings towards you. His solution was to ignore you hoping that those unwanted feelings would leave him alone.

Eventually you had became fed up with Loki so you had asked Thor . Thor of course outed Loki. Explaining how obvious it was that he fancied you. You felt like a complete and utter fool. It seemed so obvious to you now. The thought that Loki liked you back made your heart flutter. With a quick thank you to Thor you rush to Loki’s chambers.

Loki heard a loud knock on his door “ who is it?” Loki asked. “ It’s y/n” you answered. Loki cursed at himself and shot out of his chair throwing his book down. Messing with his hair and clothes to make himself presentable before he rushed to his door. He steadied his breath before slowly opening the door. There you were, beautiful as ever, light catching your eyes perfectly. He loved your eyes but not as much as you. He would never in a million years admit that though.

“ We need to talk .” You said, pushing Loki out the way and walking in his room and sitting on his bed. You crossed your arms and tapped your foot on the floor. Loki closed the door behind him and walked to stand in-front of you. “ and what is there to talk about?” He said blatantly. You looked at him as if it was obvious “ are you serious!” “ us you dingaling!” You stood up to stand in-front of him “ I went to Thor and he-“ Loki stopped you mid sentence “ wait you went to Thor?” he asked. “Yes , and he told me that you like me.” You said with a smug smile. He scoffed , “ as if” he said ,before turning away and going back to the chair he was previously sitting on. “ Oh really?” Well, if that’s so I guess this won’t affect you. With that you sat on his lap kissing him.

You and Loki had become closer after that, although your affection was kept in secret. You both felt it best to keep your relationship a secret , less Thor decided to spread the news around Asgard. Friga of course knew ,but she had no intention of saying so until you both felt that the time was right. She was happy for both you and her son . The difference in his mood wasn’t noticeable to those who weren’t close to him,but to the select few who were close , they could see that he was much happier. You two were destined for each other after all.

Ughh, please , I just need Loki to rest his head on my lap while I play with his hair. Is that too much to ask for ?

Chapter 1

Hi! So this is the first chapter of my Loki x reader fic based off the show! Its really long because its basically the entirety of the first episode. The reader will have Female pronouns in this story solely based on the fact that this will be very self indulgent and I identify as Female. So im sorry to those who do not identify as such. Also this has no editing or proof reading.. so there will probably be a lot of mistakes.

This wasn’t supposed to happen. He wasn’t supposed to be here. Loki was a God how could these people think that they could ever capture him! Strip him of his clothes and make him wait to stand trial? On top of all that they made him question wether or not he was a Robot.  Unbelievable!

Now here he was with a man in front of him when a guard near by told them to take a ticket. “ Take a ticket.” the guard told them“ What is this a deli?” the man questioned the guard  “ No!” the man said rudely and walked off. “ Take your ticket” the guard said towards Loki as he stepped up. Loki looked at the guard with an are you serious look “ there’s only two of us in here.” Loki said looking around the room. The guard once more told him to take a ticket and Loki huffed grabbing a ticket and shoving it in the Guards face before walking away and shoving it in his pocket.

“ This is an mistake I shouldn’t be here!” Loki shouted at the guard. Loki turned around when a strange voice sounded around the room “ Hi there! You’re probably saying ,this is a mistake I shouldn’t be here, “ . Loki then saw a television with a clock on it explaining the “ Time Keepers” and how they protect the flow of time and everyone and everything. Apparently he now has to stand trial for his “ crimes”. Loki chuckled before disbelievingly saying “ Time Keepers?” “ The sacred timeline?” he swung his arms out before yelling “ who would actually believe this? “

A guard once again asked for a ticket. Loki turned around to see a guard talking to the other man . The man started yelling “ That man didn’t give me a ticket! I tried to ask for one!” The guard rasied his voice “ ticket sir!” “ I tried to asked that guy for a ticket.” Loki then saw the guard pull out a baton and disintegrate the man out of existence. Loki , shocked, searched for his ticket pulled it out and heled it in the air.

Loki was escorted to a court room where women sat up front. “ Variant L1130, aka Loki Laufeyson. Is charged with sequence violation 72089. “ The women sat the paper down as Loki stood on the podium. “ How do you plead ?” she asked him. Loki looked up laughing “ Madam , a God doesn’t plead. “ “ Look this has been a very enjoyable pantomime , but i’d like to go home now.” “ Are you guilty of not guilty, sir?” the women asked . Loki laughed again “ Guilty of being the God of mischief , yes.” “Guilty of finding this all incredably tedious, yes “ “ Guilty of a crime against the sacred timeline? Absolutly not , you have the wrong person.”

They continued on arguing until the women once again asked him how he pleads. Loki said guilty and then streched his arms out trying to summon his powers. He tried a few times , but each time he failed. The women told him that magic was no good in the TVA. She sentenced him to be reset . Loki freaked out asking what reset meant before being grabbed by the guards. “ You ridiculous beauracrates will not dictate on how my story ends!” Loki screamed. The women said it was never his story . “ You have no idea what I’m capable of!” Loki yelled out in frustration. A man wearing a suite then stood up “ I think I do.” “ I have an idea of what he’s capable of” he said pointing at Loki. He then walked up and stood in front of the women.

The two talked in whispers before the man turned to Loki. Loki breathed heavy before starring the man down “ and who are you?” the man smirked before leading Loki towards his office. “ I’m gonna burn this place to the ground “ Loki said walking next to the man. “ I’ll show you where my desk is you can start there.” Loki looked out of the hall to see a grand city. Filled with lights , floating buildings, flying cars, the giant statues of the Time Keepers. “ Home sweet home” Loki looked to the man “ I thought there was no magic here.” the man shook his head “ there isn’t.”

Loki found himself in an elevator with the man. Said man stuck his hand out for Loki to shake before telling his name “ I’m agent Mobius by the way.” Loki looked down at Mobiuses hand before looking back up at him. “ Are you taking me somewhere to kills me?” Loki asked. “ No” Mobius answerd “ thats where you just were. I’m taking you some place to talk.” “ I don’t like to talk” Loki said shaking his head. “ but you like to lie “ Mobius told him “ which you just did. Cause we both know you love to talk.” Loki looked at mobius with a scowl on hisface. “How Long have you been here? “ Loki asked him. “ I don’t know its hard to say time passes diffrently at the TVA.” Mobius replied.

They stepped out the elevator ,Loki asking Mobius about the three space lizards and how its absurd how they decide the lives of millions. They then step into a big spacious room with a table and two chair in the middle. Loki made the comment on how it really feels like Mobius is going to kill him. Mobius fiddled with a device that sat on the table. Loki tried to attack Mobius, but he didn’t get far when mobius pulled something out and sent him back to where he was standing. Loki looked annoyed before he finally took a seat.

Loki sat crossing his arms. “ If looks could kill.” Mobius said smartly. They carried on their chat as Mobius pulled a drink out explaing he specializes in dangerous variants. Mobius then started to ask Loki a seires of questions. Loki explained how he wanted to be King of Midgard and the nine realms. How he would have made it easy. “ People like easy.” Mobius said. Loki looked down at the table “ The first depressing lie ever uttered was the song of freedom.” he said before looking back up at Mobius. Mobius continued to write Loki’s answers down as they continued on their chat. Mobius then clicked on the red device in front of them and then it played something catching Loki’s attention.

It started to play his life. It showed him killing Coulson, Mobius asking if he enjoys killing people whilst the video showed Loki destroying NewYork. He then showed Loki in Germany taking out the eyes of a man. “ Look at that smile. You are enjoying that. “ Mobius stated. “ Did you enjoy hurting them?” Loki looked at the floor shaking his head. “ I don’t have to play this game.” Loki told Mobius. “ I’m a God.” Mobius looked at him before replying “ Of what? In mischief right? “ “ yeah, I don’t see anything mischievous about this.” He paused the video before talking about Loki’s escapes. Loki called himself a mischievous scamp and then Mobius continued the video . It was Loki on a Plane . He was D.B Cooper. Apparently he had lost a bet to Thor. Mobius brought the conversation back to Lokis escapes. Loki tried to get up but was brought back to his chair.

Loki was frustrated beyond belief. Mobius showed him another clip agreeing with what his past self had said . Mobius asked if he was finished before showing him what would have happend if he hadn’t taken the Teseract. It showed Loki in chains walking towards his mother. Mobius mouthing “ thats you” towards Loki. Loki looked up starring at his Mother. “ Have I made you proud?” “ Please don’t make this worse.” Loki stood crossing his arms “ What is this? It’s nonsense.” He asked Mobius. “ More tricks this never even happend.” He sais gesturing the the video. “ Not to you, not yet “ Mobius said. The video continued on showing what would have been had Loki stayed within his timeline. He watched as his mother died. How he lead the dark elves to her. How HEkilled her.

“Do you enjoy killing!?” Mobius asked Loki. “ I’ll kill you!” Loki stated. “ What like how you killed your Mother.” Mobius told him. Loki then the the chair at him. Mobius moving out of the way and the chair going through the picture of his dead Mom. “ You weren’t born to be King Loki. You were born to cause Pain and suffering and Death. That’s how it is that’s how it was and that’s how it will be.” Mobius told him. Loki sat on the ground in a mix of grief and anger. He watched the Avengers fighting each other. All of them on the screen. Including you. Oh how he wished to see you right now . Taking him away from this terrible place. You were next to Steve and Natasha, eyes glowing yellow while power surges through your hands. You looked so powerful in that moment. A moment he’d never be able to truly witness. He just couldn’t wrap his head around the idea of you joining the avengers though.

He shook his head and looked up at Mobius sticking his hand out for him. He stood and then the door opened. In came the women guard “ what are you doing?” she asked Mobius. “ My job” Mobius said as if it was obvious. “ Is it yours to interupt?” he asked her. She looked at him before she spoke up “ We have a situation.” she told him. Mobius and the women left, leaving Loki to his own devises. Outside the room Mobius and the women were in a heated argument. “ We just lost another unit!” the women yelled at him. Mobius sighed before walking back in the room. “ Okay Loki I think we can finish up tomorrow and just-” Mobius stopped mid sentence when he noticed Loki was no where to be found.

Outside Loki wandered around until he ended up in an office like room. TVA workers going about . “ Hey!” Loki shouted in a whispered tone towards the man he saw at the front desk. “ Hey I know you!” the man shouted. Loki grabbed him, pulling him down to keep him quite. “ What’s your name?” Loki asked, the man looked confused before replying “ Casey” he told him. “ Get me the Tesseract or i’ll gut you like a fish!” Loki threated him.” What’s a fish?” Casey loudly asked. Loki sushed him before asking “ how do you not know what a fish is?” “ i’ve lived my entire life behind a desk” casey said.

After Casey agreed to comply he got up and pulled open a drawer. He pulled out the Teseract and handed it off to Loki. Finally, Loki thought, I have it. he helled it in his hands before glancing down. He saw infinity stones. A lot of them, just sitting there useless. “ What? Infinity stones? “ Loki asked him self, gently touching them as if they weren’t real. He stumbeld over his words “ how do you have these ?” he asked. “ Oh” Casey said “ We actually got a lot of those. Some of the guys use them as paper weights.” he said smiling to himself. Loki stood up and then walked in front of the big television. The weight of everything catching up to him. “ Is this the greatest power in the universe?” Loki questioned.

The women guard came charging towards Loki with her weapon, but Loki teleported before she could hit him. He went back to the room Mobius had taken him to earlier. Out of breath, Loki got up looking at the Avengers still on the video along with you. He sat in the chair before rewinding the video and playing it again. He saw his life. What happened and what would have happened.

He saw his Mother, dead on the floor. He saw his Father saying he loved them both. He saw you, your hands intertwined. Bodies pressed together and sweet kisses. He saw a ring on your finger and your smiling face looking up at him. He saw a version of himself being loved by you and living a life together. A life he’d never get to live now. He was crying , his tears streaming down his face. His breathe was shaky as he continued the video. He saw his brother, the two of them, fighting side by side. The video then showed him in front of Thanos. Thanos grabbed him by the neck, lifting him up. Loki stood up walking closer to the screen. He was struggling to breath as Thanos squeezed the life out of him. He could hear your cries of anguish as you pleaded for Thanos to let him go. You ran and banged on Thano’s back to stop him, but it was to late . A crack sound could be heard and he was dead. His body dropping to the floor. You came running up to him , cradling his limp body. Thanos looked down at you in disgust before stabbing you. Your body laying lifelessly next to his. As dead to the universe has he was.

Lokis face was one of fear, shock, and sadness. Seeing his death was teirrble enough, but to see you die was something else entirely. It broke his heart. The last thing he saw was Thor holding on to both your bodies and then the screen said end of file. Loki laughed at himself and then the women stepped in. “ what’s so funny?” she asked. Loki shook his head “ Glorious Purpose “ he turned around starring at her and then marched towards her. He threw a punch but she retaliated. The two fought but Loki brought her down attaching the collor to her neck. He fiddle with the remote causing her to go this way and that before she left the room completly.

Mobius ran into you in the hall way telling you the Variant “ Loki” as he was called had escaped an he needed your help to find him. “ Mobius how many times do I have to tell you to keep watch of variants?” you huffed. “ I mean isn’t that your job?” He looked at you before pleading “ Please just help me Red, I’ll make it up to you.” “ fine” you pointed your finger at him “ but you owe me” the two of you set a brisk pace  and made it to what you usually call the showing room. It usually just shows the lives of people and variants, but TVA workers were not allowed to look at their own files. You and Mobius both pulled out your weapons entering the room. “ Loki” Mobius said, causiously walking towards him. You trailed behind walking behind Mobius . You moved to stand next to him as you got closer to the variant. He was sitting with his hands over his face.” No where left to run.” you said. Loki looked up hearing your familiar voice. He looked at you in disbelief.

You weren’t real. How could you possably be here? He saw you die along with him! He saw you being carried away in shackles back on Midgard before he stole the Tesseract and ran off. There was no way that this could be you. He looked away from you and stared back at Mobius “ I can’t go back can I? “ it was more of a statement then a question though. You looked at him feeling some sort of sense of familiarity but sook it off as nerves. “ back to my timeline” Loki continued. Nither you nor Mobius said anything as Loki continued. “ I don’t enjoy hurting people.” he looked back at you “ I don’t enjoy it.” He looked in your eyes “ I do it because I have to. Because I had to.” Mobius shook his head and you spoke up. ‘Explain that to me.” Loki still couldn’t believe you were here right in front of him, but he pushed on anyway “ because it’s part of the illusion. “ “ It’s the cruel elabrate trick, conjured by the weak to inspire fear.” Mobius spoke this time “ a desprate play for control.” “ you do know yourself.” Loki sighed again “ a villain” he stated. “ That’s not how I see it” you said. Loki once again looked up at you . That since of familiarity coming back to you. “

Loki grabbed the Tesseract and spoke“ The TVA is formidable” Mobius shook his head in agreement “ that’s been my experince.” Mobius spoke to him, offering him a deal. You grabbed a hold of Mobius arm before yelling at him “you’re not doing what i think you’re doing are you?” Mobius shrugged your arm off before saying yes and then looked back at Loki. Loki got up walking towards the both of you. “ Fugitive Variant has been killing our minutemen” Mobius told him. “ and you need the God of mischief to help you stop him.” Loki said.” That’s right “ “ why me?” Loki asked .You butted in , standing infront of Mobius , looking up at Loki “ the variant we’re hunting is you.” “I beg your Pardon?” Loki asked. You chuckled, not suprised by his reaction. “ I’m sorry , but I think i’m in even more shock as to why you’re even here.” he gestured towards the room and then pointed at you stepping closer. You were face to face , noses almost touching. “ why’re you working for these people?” he furrowed his brows at you “ what are you doing here y/n?” You looked just as confused as he was and uncrossed your arms. “ I’m sorry, but who’s y/n ?”

Please ,I really need a Mobius and Loki dynamic if only because I think Loki deserves a friend :(

It really was a sad moment

——————————

Just as every time before, Loki again woke before you. In the silence, he could even hear the soft sounds of the snow still falling lightly against the cabin’s roof. Only that and your soft breathing beside him.

As he shifted he could also feel just the slightest remnants of sand against the mattress, scraping his skin. Something he’d probably just have to get used to he thought, now looking back over at you.

The dull remnants of last night’s headache still remained, but far weaker and entirely manageable as he felt his normal mental clarity had returned. He’d left the doors to his quarters in Asgard locked before leaving last night. And those at the palace could all assume he was still sleeping off that alcohol fueled haze, buying him a little more time now.

But borrowed time was all it was. Though it was still so strange. Never would have he expected to find anything or anyone in Midgard that he was willing to work for in this way. To scheme and plot incessantly it felt like these days just to try and make this all work out in his favor.

Was he actually still afraid though? Was that really what it was? Fear that something so unexpectedly found, could be all the easier lost? Of course, initially when he’d thought of all the ways this could go wrong, there was always someone else to blame.

Odin primarily if his Father would not accept the relationship. Possibly Thor if his brother would somehow charm you in that inexplicable way of his, just as he had already taken their family’s and their people’s attention without even trying.

But for the very first time, Loki was having new, rogue thoughts.

Because what if it was only himself? What if he was the one that would fail to know how to capture this? What if he didn’t know how to maintain it? That had never been a concern before.

People had entered his bed in the past, and they had left it. He never missed them. He might miss the feeling. But if he ever did, he just found another. It was all the same.

But what happened when he didn’t want another? What in the gods’ names did someone do then? He did not like that new uncertainty. Not at all.

He’d fantasized about you one day standing beside his throne before now, yes. But fantasies were often fleeting. And just claiming a trophy was not the same as this, whatever this was. A foreign sense, almost comparable to dread was now creeping into his mind as he looked at your sleeping face.

Yet he refused to be a coward either. His pride competing with his uncertainty as he grazed his hand down the side of your cheek. He wouldn’t make the same mistake of yesterday morning at least. He wouldn’t wait so long to the point that he’d have to rush back to Asgard wholly unfulfilled again.

No, he felt you’d now slept long enough, his hand then tracing further down your naked form beside him as he leaned in to begin kissing your neck.

Yet even with the touches, you only shifted slightly. Closer to him even instead of away as he smirked despite himself against your skin. How anyone could sleep so deeply, he did not know. Were you really so trusting?

Did you trust him?

You hadn’t initially. He knew this as he remembered that first day he’d ever seen you. As you hid behind those trees with your spear clutched, yet wholly to him looking like you’d never once driven the weapon through anyone at all.

You were nervous he thought, especially when his illusion had caught you off guard. He’d known right away that you weren’t human, but he wasn’t sure what else you really were as he’d only wanted you to leave then. He’d been so annoyed to find that even in the barren wilds of Midgard, that he would still run into any other being so quickly.

It was strange to think now that maybe in some minuscule way he really did owe Odin and Thor for that chance encounter though.

He’d been infuriated at them, after Father’s very public declarations which had all but cemented Thor’s path to the throne. Loki had felt he was going to do something he may actually regret if he hadn’t left Asgard then and there to go cool down. And he’d been so concerned that Thor would only follow, Midgard had just been the first place he’d thought to blurt out to Heimdall. The last place Thor would guess, somewhere in the south as well where he wouldn’t have to run into any of those who still worshipped either his father or brother.

Yet all that seeming idle rage had just put him on a direct course to you. But he knew there were so many who still believed only in the predetermined. That everything was already fated and all would always transpire just as it should.

Loki still vehemently refused these notions however. He wanted to take credit for the things he’d earned. Never did he wish to be only a puppet on a string to higher powers. If he could keep you, it would solely be because he was worthy.

And that was always a secret at his core. How badly he wanted to be worthy.

His touches grew more insistent at that. His palm splaying low on your abdomen as he kissed even harder at your throat. And when he felt you move, he even started to suck at that skin, hoping to leave marks as one of your hands tightened on his arm.

“Loki?” You’d asked sleepily at last.

Yet he pulled back enough to taunt in return. “And what would you do if it were not?” A darkly funny thought really. He’d never yet seen you be truly violent, as he didn’t count any of those instances with the mortals. That was only like swatting flies. You hadn’t even been angry. And it intrigued him to imagine you actually fighting someone, anyone. Did you even know how?

But he didn’t really give you time to answer him either. Now knowing you were finally awake, he moved over you to kiss your mouth instead. Deeply, as he took advantage of you both already being nude beneath the blanket as he started to slide himself back and forth against you.

He didn’t miss that little moan you gave against his mouth either, pleased to know you could be so responsive even just upon waking.

Even though he’d only teased you the other day about self soothing in his absence, he would love to know if you’d ever pleasured yourself while thinking of him. Did you ever fall asleep imagining him between your legs, or wake up envisioning this very thing?

He was already growing hard at just the feel of your body against his, and now these added hypothetical thoughts of you still needing him even when alone. He had no qualms about admitting it himself. Those times he’d laid in his bed in Asgard, legs open and thrusting into his own hand as he’d envisioned you. It would make no sense to just sit there and suffer when the urges could be dealt with with a little imagination.

As it was now though, his hand concerned itself with the very real woman right in front of it as he started to rub his fingers between your legs. He’d never asked if you’d actually been a virgin before that first time he’d claimed you. He remembered some comment you’d made about your own intimacies being closer to never.

Yet it didn’t matter of course. Virginity was more just a concept than any real world value, especially to him. But he thought he was right in his sense that you were inexperienced at least. Which did stroke his ego as well to hope he was giving you pleasure beyond whatever you’d previously known.

And you did get wet easily he’d found. The amount of foreplay he gave you was more to stretch out the time together, even if he could already tell you were ready for him as smoothly as his fingers slid inside you then. It was a balance surely, not letting things be over too quickly, but also being so hard already himself and wanting to be inside you.

But he still delayed his own need, working his fingers methodically, trying to get that tell tale tremble to go through your legs. Those nerves were so sensitive he knew. Of course, it could be said that he had a very unfair advantage over other men in that arena, as obviously he’d practiced in his own female form many times as well.

He knew exactly how it could feel. How it did feel to get that stimulation. And he smiled as you moaned a little again, though maybe in time you’d learn to be louder for him. There was still a bit of shyness and pride there most likely, you holding back somewhat from what felt so good.

Yet he had got you going that night in the cave. Calling him “King”, telling him to fuck you. You’d just been trying to say what you thought he wanted to hear he was sure, but it hadn’t mattered for as good as it had still sounded coming out of your mouth.

He wondered how you would respond though, if it was him begging for you. He liked the idea as he now started to finally rub the tip of his erection against your entrance. He certainly didn’t have to fake anything on his own side though, knowing he must have that needful expression on his face by now for how badly he wanted to hurry and sheath himself inside you.

But he didn’t, instead grabbing hold of you to roll the two of you so he was now on his back with you straddling over the top of him. His swollen member now helpless against your stomach.

“Come on-” He groaned, almost calling you by your real name, though just barely stopping himself as Muninn was still here. He knew last night, even drunk as he’d been, he’d never actually called you a goddess or uttered your name in front the creature. And that was only for your protection.

But otherwise, let that spy dare bring news of this to Odin as Loki bucked a little beneath you, intentionally making a shameless moan as his cock scraped your abdomen roughly. And he did not miss the surprise on your face as he did so. He wanted you to ride him now, to let you control the force and the speed.

He knew you understood too. You weren’t that naive. But the hesitation in you was evident, making him have to speak further.

Please,” He growled, honestly that desperation in his own voice triggering him even more. He did like this, the little role reversal. And oh, how many different games the two of you could play whenever you were finally more comfortable with him. No, he didn’t think any bedroom with you in it could ever become boring for him.

Loki,” You had breathed in return, and he could hear that arousal permeating your own voice as well. It made his name sound so good, he wanted to hear it again and again even as he watched you lift yourself over him, blanket now thrown back and out of the way.

The view was exquisite. Watching you sink down onto him, feeling how tight it then was inside you as it took all his willpower to not immediately begin thrusting.

He was breathing harder now, trapped between your legs and loving it as you shifted, still trying to get accustomed to his width and length again before you would really start to move.

He still didn’t mind encouraging you though, guiding one of your hands then to splay it on his chest, wanting you to press down on him to steady yourself.

Go on,” Loki all but begged. He could see that needful look returned in your own eyes however as you finally began to pump your hips.

Soft and rhythmic at first, he looked to the ceiling as his fingers dug into the outside of your thighs and he bit into his own lip at the torturously slow sensation. But this kind of delayed gratification was a torture he’d gladly accept an infinite amount of times over.

A reflexive gasp escaped him though as you suddenly raised up and slammed back down on him. Gods. Yes, that was the way.

Harder,” He pleaded, your hand on his chest pushing into his sternum now almost as hard as your hips were moving against him.

Over and over, your bodies hitting together. He heard you hiss through your teeth though, his length finally hitting at a harsh enough angle to cause you real pain. But it would only have been your own doing, as he was still staying as still as he could.

Yet at the sound he forced his torso up, even then with your fingernails scraping down his chest as your hand slid down. He raised himself up enough to reach one of your breasts, mouthing it roughly and kissing it to distract you from the pain.

That elicited another real sound of pleasure from you before the hip thrusting started all over again, and you pushed him back against the bed with both your hands.

He grinned as his back hit the bed again. But you followed him down, your chests then colliding as you kissed him, still on top of him, still sliding him in and out so roughly between your legs.

And he couldn’t help it, grabbing you possessively, not letting you back up as the two of you kissed and he bit your tongue lightly then. This is what he wanted as he felt himself already so close to orgasm.

Some tiny, distant voice of reason reminded him he’d already been careless twice in his overwhelming desire for you however. Once at the cave, and then again in the forest that first night the two of you had come to this village. He’d given you his seed both times, wanting to feel you to the very last moment instead of pulling out.

He knew nothing of Olympian biology and if it was even compatible with that of an Asgardian to be true. Never before had he heard of a half breed between the races. But as young as you both were, it was certainly not something he would really wish to keep risking. He had zero interest in siring heirs when he had yet to claim the throne for himself of course. He’d have to be as old as Odin before he’d even consider it, not wanting to deal with more possible usurpers to his own ambitions.

And as he felt that release building in him, reason did finally win out and he all too reluctantly forced you back. Even as he continued to kiss you, he just used his hands to hold back your hips. Keeping him from reentering you as he did the last thrusts on his own, sliding against the skin of your stomach once more before he came on you both.

In the aftershocks of his orgasm he didn’t even care about the warm, sticky mess then between you. He just laid back, panting a little as he looked up in your eyes.

But he could see that little bit of question there as he smiled in what he knew was just an intentional play at arrogance on his part, his hands still rubbing your hips gently. “What, dear? As excellent an example of breeding stock as I am, I don’t think we’re quite ready for that burden do you?”

You gave a weak laugh though, and he knew you hadn’t even considered that full potential really, just as caught in all this as he was. But you must not have minded the mess much either, just laying back down on him afterward as you rest your head against him.

And it was so tempting to just stay that way, his arms then moving back around you. If only the both of you really could. But the realms weren’t quite ready for this power couple that he was already envisioning the two of you to be.

———————————

As you finally stood again to pull your dress back on, you didn’t worry about any of the remnants of Loki still on your abdomen. You’d have plenty of time to go bathe in the sea once he was gone again, which would be happening in only a few moments unfortunately. You’d both lingered together in bed as long as you could have, but he now had to return to his palace once more.

He’d already dressed himself again as well, using his magic to pull his clothing back from the floor and onto his body in the proper order quite quickly.

“What are you going to do with him?” You’d finally said though, eyeing the all too quiet chest on the floor with some concern. If the bird had passed on sometime in the night, you weren’t going to forgive yourself for not intervening sooner. But Loki had been so adamant that Odin’s ravens were far more resilient than you knew.

“Just keep him here for now.” Loki answered with all the emotion of someone commenting on the weather as he fussed a little more with straightening out his cloak that’d gotten wrinkled from being in a pile the night before.

“Oh, so I can be blamed by Odin if he dies?” You retorted, before thinking further. “Or by you if he escapes?”

Loki smirked at you, one you thought was meant to be charming, though you did realize he now seemed in a far better mood than he’d been in the night before. “I wouldn’t let that happen to you.” He promised.

Your eyebrow raised in an entirely disbelieving expression.

But Loki just continued. “And he can’t fly until his wing regenerates. It will at some point. But it’ll still take time. So guess who gets yet another new pet?”

“How lovely.” You answered with fake appreciation. “But won’t they come looking for him?”

“Oh those two can wander the realms for weeks before they check in again. They don’t come back until they have something they think Odin would wish to know. I’m sure in the real olden days it was daily, but with mostly peace in the realms again, there really isn’t much new to report now is there?”

“You have an answer for everything don’t you?” You kept on, though realizing it entirely futile.

He moved closer then though, just smiling still, “I have to go.”

And maybe it was only more manipulation, conning you into complying once more, but he actually leaned forward and kissed you. It was different though. Gentle, almost…caring?

But over just as quickly as he then walked for the door. “Do remember he does bite. And watch what you say around him. He never forgets any information until he’s delivered it to the Allfather.”

A bit late for that you thought. But maybe Loki truly didn’t care. Or every rude and awful thing he’d already said around the poor bird was really how he always spoke to him anyway in Asgard. Either way, this was not comforting to you in the least.

“Goodbye.” Was all you could think to say, still unsure how your previously, relatively uneventful life had now become as complicated as this.

But he actually said it back, a little look back at you before he closed the door, teasing that nickname purposefully again. One he must not think Muninn would be able to use against you at least. “Goodbye, Kærr. I’ll return when I can.”

———————————

Asgard, later that day

“I’m telling you something is going on.” Sif reiterated, arms crossed as they all remained gathered in the courtyard, now watching as Fandral and Hogun paired up for the next sparring match.

Fandral glanced over at her, right away barely dodging Hogun’s mace Hridgandr as he raised his shield. “So Loki’s sneaking around. What of it? That’s-” He grunted, almost getting knocked off balance as he had to sidestep again before plunging ahead with his sword. “That’s what snakes do.”

“Mind your tongue, that is my brother you speak of.” Thor warned, albeit with his feet now kicked up as he sat on the nearby ledge. His head still throbbed enough from last night, he now winced a little every time one of their weapons bounced loudly off the other’s shield.

“He does take the form of a serpent quite frequently.” Volstagg offered though. “Bugger got in my helmet once. Hah, but joke was on him. We’d just gotten back from Vanaheim and I hadn’t seen a bath in three weeks! Never seen a creature come back out so fast!”

“Ugh,” Fandral and Thor replied simultaneously.

“The maids said his quarters were locked all the way until after midday food in the hall.” Sif just continued, “And he was acting so strange yesterday morning, even for him, he-”

“Well what would Loki care for midday feast? Skin and bones that boy.” Volstagg interrupted.

And Fandral questioned, landing another near strike against Hogun. “Which maid said that? Helga or Ulfid?”

Yet Sif tried to ignore the both of them. “I’m saying I think he’s been going somewhere else, he-”

“Well where were you and Thor last night?” Fandral just interjected again.

Sif’s tone changed to an even deeper annoyance at that, quickly defending. “I was in my quarters.”

“As was I!” Thor answered all too fast, but then realizing his mistake, tried to backpedal just as quickly. “I mean, I was in my quarters of course, not Sif’s.” He chuckled a little nervously, intentionally looking away from everyone then.

Yet Sif just rolled her eyes, “And where were you, Fandral?”

But Fandral smirked provocatively, “With the maids, Helga and Ulfid of course. That’s why I asked which you’d spoken to. I left my belt and I need to fetch it back, I-”

Sif raised her hands. “Gods. Just stop. I don’t want to know.”

“You talk too much,” Hogun cut in at Fandral, sweeping the chain of the mace under the other’s feet then and laying him decidedly on his ass. Yet Hogun only continued after, already offering a hand to help Fandral back up. “Why do you not just ask Loki? See what lie he gives and investigate from there.”

Thor came back in at this though, that little tone of defensiveness returning. “But why does he have to be lying? Maybe he really was at the library yesterday, maybe he had a hangover today? It could be the truth!”

And at that every single one of them looked pointedly at Thor.

He stared back at them, defiant by nature, but at the same time withering slightly under the combined judgement of all his friends. “Okay, yes. He likes to bend the truth at times. But he’s my brother and I’d like it if we could stop gossiping about him. Are we warriors or are we maidens?”

And at Sif’s resulting death stare, Thor cleared his throat, but still continued. “Gossipy maidens…you know, like the maids, not like you of course, Sif!”

But Fandral raised his rapier again at that. “Now wait just a minute, you keep Helga and Ulfid’s honor out of this. Sif is the one so worried for some reason.” He looked to her tauntingly. “Keeping a watch on Loki now, Sif? What, do you fancy him all of the sudden? They say opposites can attract after all.”

Thor looked only further distressed at this, even as Sif spun instantly, drawing her own sword. “Alright, move Hogun, Fandral’s mine!”

Volstagg just spoke up cheerfully though, pointing across the courtyard then. “Oh look, there’s Loki now. Let’s just ask and put an end to this here and now, yeah?”

Fandral smiled, looking over as well. “Speak of the devil and he shall appear, lads.”

“He’s not the devil.” Thor chided lowly, now hopping off the ledge to come to standing. He cupped his hands around the sides of his mouth though, then calling out loudly all the way across the large courtyard. “Brother! Hey!

The lean figure in the black and green leather paused suddenly at that. He’d only been using one of the open air corridors that bordered the courtyard. Several books in his hands when he’d had no choice but to turn his attention towards that bellowing call.

Thor brightened a little to see Loki then striding towards them a few moments later, the thunder god wanting to have this subject done and over with.

“Yes?” Loki just asked with little emotion though as soon as he’d stopped in front of them all.

This actually caught Thor off guard a little however, expecting something more sarcastic possibly, or maybe even a reprimand for screaming across the entire courtyard to start with.

“How are you feeling?” Thor just asked abruptly though, as usual having no real plan and just blurting out the first thing that came to mind.

Loki’s eyebrows did furrow at this though. “I’m…fine? Am I supposed to be otherwise?” He responded.

“Well, uh, I didn’t know. I heard you almost missed the beginning of the victory celebrations yesterday. Which you gave a mighty fine speech at by the way.” Thor tended to compliment others when nervous, but he just continued awkwardly. “And then this morning, you were all holed up in your quarters through half the day. So I just wanted to make sure, as we know you usually rise with the sun.”

Loki gave a brief glance to all of them before just looking back to Thor. “I lost track of time while in the library yesterday morning, my apologies, brother. And after last night’s lengthy celebrations I still had quite a headache long into this morning. I kept to my quarters with a few books that I’d checked out the other morning. I was only on my way to return them now.”

Thor smiled, also looking to the others before giving Loki a pat on the shoulder. “Well, we won’t keep you then. Thank you, brother.”

“Always,” Loki only returned the smile, giving a little nod before walking back away.

The group waited until he was well out of earshot and completely out of sight.

“Well, he’s plotting something. Sif was right.” Fandral mused.

“You see. If you’d only listen to me the first time.” She agreed.

But Thor seemed surprised at their interpretation, “What? No. He literally just said-”

“Said with a smile,” Fandral countered.

“And with extreme politeness,” Volstagg added.

“He might just be in a good mood today!” Thor tried to argue back.

But Fandral gave him a sympathetic look. “Thor, my good man, he’s your brother, yes. We understand. But he did not come across his own title by happenstance. The god of mischief just walked away from us with a smile on his face. There’s some sort of trickery now afoot, I assure you.”

Thor crossed his arms, giving them all a displeased look, still very reluctant to agree. “And you propose we do what then?”

“Reconnaissance.” Fandral said simply.

“Oh, a scouting mission. We haven’t had a proper one of those in a while!” Volstagg replied with a little excitement.

“We could speak to the librarian. Ask how often he’s really been in there?” Sif offered.

“And next time he doesn’t come out in the morning, we take an excursion across the balconies to see if anybody is really home.” Fandral continued, sounding quite sure that this would be a fun idea.

Thor still looked troubled though as he glanced to Hogun. “Do you have any words in the matter, friend?”

Hogun looked unimpressed as usual, but shrugged a little. “It will be good training. We have fought many physical battles recently. But not all battles are fought so plainly. Subterfuge is another component of war. To which I agree…in that, your brother excels far above yourself.”

“That’s because Thor is honest!” Sif defended.

“I only state the truth as well.” Hogun countered, though not offended.

Fandral raised his sword, pointing it to the sky symbolically. “Then it’s decided by democratic process. We shall commence operation ‘Catch a Snake’ posthaste!”

“Can we not at least name it something else?” Thor complained, yet knowing well when he’d already been overruled.

———————————

Midgard, that night

You had a few bruises on your hands from this long process of trial and error today, but it wasn’t terrible as you spoke to him softly yet again.

“Now, Muninn. You have to drink at least.” You had managed to finally pick him up out of the chest around midday, which is where most of the bites had come from. You’d just gone back to the sea ever so briefly before to clean yourself up, and brought back a little raw fish for him that he’d refused to eat and you’d had to throw it back out.

You’d also found some rudimentary wooden cups and bowls in another little holding chest as well though. So you’d gotten freshwater from the stream in one of the bowls as you now tried to offer it to him.

Every time you got too close with the bowl though, he’d just try to flap away from you. Usually falling over back onto the bed pathetically with his one working wing as you now sat there with him.

“Listen, I know I’ve already said this many times. But I’m not going to harm you. I don’t like this any more than you do, really. Yet, it’s not my place to tell one of Odin’s sons what to do. Surely you can sympathize a little? You must know the inner workings of Odin’s palace and the power structure there better than anyone.”

But the bird only fluffed up again, giving you that same irritable look he’d given most the day.

You had nowhere else to be right now though, then just laying down patiently on the bed as you propped yourself up with your elbows and watched him.

“Are you cold?” There was no insulation to speak of in the dwelling, and now with the snow laid thick on the outside, you could feel how much more the temperature had dropped in here even in comparison to this morning.

You guessed Persephone must have returned to her husband Hades fully now. So all the plants and grasses would wither as always, that time of cold and darkness lingering for months until the rebirth of spring.

You wondered if Asgard had the similar passage of the seasons though. Did it even rain there? Did it snow at times or have blistering heat at other periods?

There was still so very much you didn’t know. Loki had warned you about divulging anything to Muninn that you wouldn’t want Odin to hear. But what if it wasn’t any groundbreaking information you had to share? What if it was actually questions you had instead?

“So, is it true you can traverse the realms then without even using the bifrost?” Loki had seemed pleased the other night, saying something about Muninn finding a door for him. “It must be very interesting to be able to see so many places either way though.” You continued, but obviously still aware how much the bird would have rather been as far away from you as possible, instead of stuck here with this forced socialization.

“I’ve never been anywhere else.” You said truthfully though, still talking to him kindly. “I can only imagine what exciting things the other realms must hold. You’re quite lucky really…I mean, normally anyway. I know you must be in pain right now.”

You could see his black eyes upon you, he was listening, but still with his feathers fluffed.

“I wish you’d just admit that you’re cold, and likely hungry and thirsty.” You tilted your head a little, having an idea then of another strategy to try with him. “You know, Loki doesn’t have to know whether we were nice to each other or not. If you’re trying to make a show of things, thinking it’ll make you look weak in front of him otherwise…that’s not necessary if he isn’t even here to see it.”

You scooted the water bowl just a little closer to him, but also then moving the blanket very slowly to bunch it up in a little circle around him.

Seeing the blanket moving, he immediately tensed again, mouth opening threateningly as his good wing flared out.

“Easy…” You said, glad he actually seemed more focused on the blanket than your hands in that moment as you didn’t get bitten again. And you kept edging that blanket closer around him until it looked fairly comfortable you thought. “See? Like a little nest. Far better than a dusty old chest anyway, right?”

With that, you laid down on your side fully on the bed. The water was still in his reach if he wanted it, but you wouldn’t bother him anymore trying to manually offer it.

“I’m sorry.” You said softly still though. “None of this was supposed to happen. But I’ve never…” You paused, giving Muninn a sort of sad smile. “I’ve never met anyone like him.”

Was it wise to confess anything at all to this servant of Odin? No, surely it wasn’t. But who wouldn’t infer this eventually anyway? Why else would you be here at all? Why would you still be participating in this clearly escalating bit of madness?

“I know you’ll return to Odin as soon as you are able. And whatever transpires after that, I just want that one truth known. Anything I did was for the prince, for Loki.”

Even now you still wondered where he was, what he was doing, and when you could see him again.

“I care for him.” Was all you said next so simply though. An understatement as well perhaps, but the look in your eyes conveyed the truth.

And to finally say even that out loud opened something deeper inside you. You couldn’t turn back now even if you’d wanted to.

Asgard, that same night

Loki sat alone in his room, books strewn around him on his bed. Some of the books were the very same ones he’d been carrying when confronted by his brother and his brother’s friends earlier in the day.

He’d had to make a show afterward of actually going to the library as if to return them, to back up his excuse in case he was followed. But in reality the majority of these hadn’t even come from the library. The ones he’d been carrying earlier were actually Frigga’s own spell books.

He was researching tracking spells, knowing Muninn would heal soon enough and that all the risk he had taken in capturing him would be for naught if he couldn’t trace him back to whatever portal between the realms the spy had found. Huginn and Muninn were the only beings he was aware of that were gifted with the ability to sense and find even those smallest rifts between the worlds. And they exploited that fully as they travelled from realm to realm, acting as Odin’s eyes on all that transpired through the kingdoms.

Yes, it was now more crucial than ever that Loki find this workaround. He was still inwardly seething a bit to know that Thor and his friends had already gotten this far on his trail. He would now have to forfeit using the bifrost for some time, knowing they’d likely be watching his every move.

If he went back to you too soon, they would only follow and force him to return Muninn and reveal everything before he was ready. But if he waited too long, the bird would heal and eventually escape, flying to Asgard before he could trace him back to the location of the portal. Then all would also be revealed with Loki still having no way to return to Midgard if Odin had one of his usual stern upsets and forbid it.

But as he poured through the ancient pages, he still found his usual focus somewhat missing. He just kept recalling that odd feeling from this morning. In the quiet of that cabin before he’d woken you. And the alcohol couldn’t be blamed by then.

He took a breath, that fear twisting around in the back of his mind once more. He didn’t want to name it. Objectively though, there were only a few things it could be called.

For the average being, the word was often characterized by some sort of euphoria though. Or at least a sense of warmth, a profound glow, all things that were supposedly so common.

Yet for him, it was like a weight, tightening around him. Dread…to have something, someone to lose.

No, he wouldn’t name it. He wouldn’t call it what so many others might.

Love.
