Hello! Several things, so please forgive me for the somewhat long post.
First, I am trying to slowly get back to being able to post here and, to do that, I really just want a clean slate of sorts. So please do not feel bad or freak out if I unfollow you. I am unfollowing pretty much everyone temporarily so I can start from scratch. The fandom has changed a lot, and I just need a clean space to start again.

manon is the one to bring him out for the very first time he breaks through which is why I’ll never stop saying that they’re freaking mates and meant for each other
you know, I reread Kingdom of Ash yesterday and after crying (again), there’s something that really stuck out to me and I had highlighted it before.
We all know this iconic part:
I have always found it adorable that Dorian took Yrene and Chaol with him to say goodbye to Manon, they’re the family he chose essentially and the importance of him introducing Manon to Chaol earlier on is also something we can always talk about more. The reason this scene stopped me dead in my tracks however, was that Chaol wasn’t described as being shocked at what Yrene said, he just said ‘gaped’ and then bickered and laughed with her
Almost as if…they had gossiped about this before and he didn’t expect her to plain out say it, especially not the marriage comment because who can look at a witch say “yep, marry her already” but Yrene, right? The fact he laughed afterwards just gives me scolding vibes because again, let’s go back to the point that Dorian introduced Manon to Chaol and Yrene, Chaol, his best friend and confidante, Chaol, that if you remember, also had this short scene:
(What moments in history haunt me most, you ask? The fact I’ll never know what their conversation was about)
In summary of it: Chaol heard the entire story of what happened with Manon, immediately told his wife, who was like ‘yeah no duh’ after two conversations, and said “you could just marry each other” because the subject of marriage hit their relationship a little too hard in the end.
We gonna talk about the parallels between Manon and Dorian and Elena and Gavin now or do we wait a couple more years?
Seriously though if I had the time to workshop a longer post I’ll talk more about it but if you think back to Throne of Glass and Crown of Midnight—you have the physical description of Elena while she pushes back the “demons” (now we know them as the Valg) while the fight with Cain is happening, where she’s described as wearing a crown of stars, an imagery associated with the Crochan Queens and Manon later on in the series. It’s one of the most striking points made about Elena during that scene (as well as the “party trick” fire parallel for KoA but that’s a whole other thing) as well as the note about her white hair.
Then, in Crown of Midnight, we get introduced to the witches through Dorian’s point of view, if I’m not mistaken he’s the first person who talks about the Witch Kingdom and it’s history while speaking with Baba Yellowlegs, and is the first person to mention the crown of stars the old hag wears, ironically, again, if I’m not mistaken, he’s also the narrating voice when Manon wears the crown, so it’s a nice full circle kind of moment.
And that’s as far as I have gotten in my reread so ignore me
Which one of you was going to tell me that in the Throne of Glass Wikipedia page Dorian’s character description ends with “Dorian later falls in love with the witch, Manon, heir to the Blackbeak clan” ????
I was annoyed at how long it took them to think “hmmm, how about instead of arguing about who deserves to die, they team up and neither dies?” I get that it was for maximum ANGST lol but yeah.

No, wait. I would’ve loved for Manon to be there and see her reaction. Ultimately she’d be rational like Chaol and eventually Rowan. But omg to see her get in Fenrys’s face at this moment?
@rufousnmacska I honestly was disappointed Manon wasn’t present for that conversation because, of course she wouldn’t *want* Dorian to sacrifice himself, but she’s also super practical. Very curious as to how that would’ve played out.
…………also I need to know what Chaol and Dorian were murmuring that Aelin couldn’t hear , just before they tried to forge the lock. I was like, no SJM, I wanna hear this
I agree about Manon being very practical. But I think her initial reaction in that moment would’ve been emotional and protective. There were signs of that when she found him talking to Kaltain and realized what he was planning.
But yeah, I can also see her being a voice of reason trying to calm everyone the fuck down.
Oh god. I want to know what they said to each other too.
@propshophannah has a head canon that one thing Dorian told Chaol was to find Manon and tell her his answer was yes.
