Bucky blinked a couple of times in the darkness. What time was it, even? He should be sleeping, the team needed to be up and moving again in the morning but he couldn’t shake the cold that had settled in his bones long enough to relax.

Bucky looked out the windowpane, and watched the snowflakes take their dance in the wintry air, pure water made all the more beautiful by the crystalline form. It was a pleasant view to watch at first, but when he turned his gaze up his stomach dropped. Snow clouds, silver and black, in a multitude of precious-metal hues, adorned the sky as if they were longing to kiss the land. His face turned pale in shock as lightning recharged his soul while the thunder resonated so deep in his bones.

Pulling away from the window, Bucky acknowledged how scared he was. It was then when those bad memories cut loose their chains and invaded his confidence, eroding the person he has built since those dark days.

He tried to mask his emotions, shut them down. Nevertheless, they troubled him more than he ever imagined now that he was no longer the Winter Soldier.

Nervously, he poured himself a glass of whiskey and downed it. Breathing shallowly, he swung his head upon a familiar voice calling out his name.

“You can’t let those nightmares hunt you down forever, Buck,” you said as you stepped into the view, glass in hand.

“They aren’t nightmares,” he said, gulping a lump down his throat. As you sat down next to him, ready to listen, he looked at you and continued, “Can’t you see? That’s what I am, chaos in every aspect.”

With a sympathetic look, you shook your head and caressed his cheek. “No. That thing out there is anything but you, Buck. You have to let those dark days go.”

“Y/N, you clearly don’t see the-”

“Do you want to know what I see?” you cut him off, trying to catch his sight. “I see a man, a righteous one. One who’s loyal to his principles and friends, and would never do harm to anyone,” you whispered, leaning towards him. “That’s who you really are, Buck.”

Bucky was stiff and closed off on his seat, quite taken aback by your words. However, at the mere touch of your skin, he closed your eyes and let you nestle into his arms. He plopped his head down on your shoulder and snuggled in with a soft sigh, his lips curling upwards.

“Thank you,” he whispered voice barely audible.

“Anytime.”

You heard the news from Natasha. The mission had gone terribly wrong.  Your boyfriend had taken a massive hit for a civilian, covering their body when the building the team had been taking down self-destructed. However, he had a lot more strength inside him than the rest of the team thought. You knew that like no one better.

Standing next to Natasha, you waited for the team to arrive. As your lips quivered in sharp fear, she offered you a hand so you could hold yourself.

In a matter of minutes, Natasha gave Clint permission to land in the Compound’s hanger via comms, wheels kissing the cement with a small and joyous bounce. The breeze moved freely from front to back and the light cascaded from windows onto the planes as softly as forest sun onto trees. In short, there was no stuffiness and no odor save a tincture of kerosene.

Your heart dropped when the team stepped off the aircraft, being Bucky the last one. Smiling, from ear to ear, you started getting tears in your eyes as you both started running towards each other. You both embraced each other into a warm hug as tears ran down both of your faces

You had never felt like this before.

You pressed your forehead against his as both of you breathed in sync, and perhaps it was because you were meant to be together. As he held you in your arms, tears streamed down your face, body shuddered with the effort it took to rack each sob. You both tightened your grips, his fingers digging into your back as if someone would take you away from him.

His words finally reached out to you, “I missed you. Let’s not do that again.“

You didn’t answer, aware of what he was asking. His hands brushed your hair, traced down to your cheek, along your jaw, but then he plopped it back down to his side.

"Y/N, do you hear me?” he asked.

“I hear you,” you finally said. “…But the Avengers is your family and your job. The only thing that keeps you grounded, Buck. I need you here. Everyone needs here. Even if means I’ll cry over and over again.”

Bucky pulled away and slid his hands down to your waist and positioned himself to look you in the eyes. “Are you sure?” he raised an eyebrow, however, you responded with a nod.

“I guess this is home now”, you shrugged.

IMAGINE: BEING WANDA AND VISION’S YOUNGEST CHILD, AND GOING MISSING IN WESTVIEW.

Wanda runs her hands through her curls, evidently stressed as she paces through the living room. Vision lets out a heavy sigh, wrapping an arm around Wanda in an attempt to comfort her. Pressing a kiss to her forehead, he tries to reassure her, “We’ll find y/n.”

Wanda frowns, trying her best to believe him. Ever since you’ve gone missing, Wanda hasn’t been able to rest. She feels as though she’s on the verge of tearing Westview down just to find you. She’s asked almost everyone for help, but no one has seen any sign of you. Wanda rubs her fingers against her temple, feeling a headache coming on as she can’t help but wonder what kind of mother she is if she can’t even keep her youngest child safe.

“I asked Agnes for help, but Agnes didn’t even know what I was talking about.” Wanda mutters, shaking her head, the whole encounter confusing her. Looking up at Vision, she splutters, “Agnes said we only have Billy and Tommy, and never a y/n. Am I going crazy, Vis?”

Vision frowns at this, before shaking his head. “Ignore Agnes. We’re going to bring y/n home, I promise.”

IMAGINE: BEING TONY’S NEW ASSISTANT AND NATASHA TAKING A LIKING TO YOU.

“Oh, I’m so sorry!” you stammer as you accidentally run into someone, and your eyes widen with horror as you realise it’s none other than Natasha Romanoff. Being Tony’s new assistant, you’re still getting used to seeing the Avengers so often and so many other high profile figures. “Agent Romanoff, I—”

“y/n, there you are.” Tony calls out your name, walking up behind you. He smirks slightly at Natasha, before gesturing to you and remarking, “Oh, I see you’ve met your replacement.”

Natasha rolls her eyes at the comment, remembering her brief undercover job as Tony’s assistant. She turns her focus back to you, a smile tugging at her lips as she extends her hand to you. “Nice to meet you, y/n. You can just call me Natasha.”

IMAGINE: TRYING TO HIDE THE FACT THAT YOU HAVE NO POWERS FROM AGATHA, YOUR MOTHER.

“Really, y/n, this is a simple spell.” Agatha huffs, eyes narrowing at you as you nervously avoid eye contact. Day and night, your mother has been trying to teach you magic, unaware that you somehow inherited no magical powers from her. No matter how hard you tried to practice by yourself, none of the spells of incantations would work for you.

You gulp as Agatha moves her fingers, twisting her hands together as a purple aura swirls around her hands. She stares at you, waiting for her to mimic her, and you suck in a sharp breath as you raise your hands, despite knowing nothing will happen.

IMAGINE: BEING AN AVENGER, AND WANDA BEGGING YOU NOT TO LEAVE AFTER SHE CATCHES YOU PACKING YOUR BAGS AFTER THE SOKOVIA ACCORDS.

Wanda’s head is spinning as she walks through the corridors of the Avengers compound. After the very intense meeting over the Accords, Wanda feels herself at a loss for what to do, and during moments like these, she always finds herself gravitating towards you for help.

She hopes you’ll be awake despite the late hour, and she quietly knocks at your door, hand hesitating as she notices light coming from the bottom of your door. She listens, hears quiet shuffling, but no response. She knocks again, before calling out, “y/n?”

She pushes the door open, eyes widening as she sees your belongings packed into bags around your bed. You look up, letting out a heavy sigh as you meet Wanda’s shocked gaze, and you slump over the edge of your bed. She sits beside you, stammering, “Where… where are you going?”

“I’m leaving.” you simply say, and Wanda gulps. “I can’t agree with these Accords, Wanda, I can’t. Steve is right, this document just takes away our freedom.”

“You can’t leave, y/n.” Wanda blurts, desperation laced in her tone. Her voice is trembling, and she pleads, “Don’t leave me, y/n. You can’t just run away.”

IMAGINE: BEING IN LOVE WITH WANDA, DESPITE KNOWING THAT SHE LOVES VISION.

There’s something in the way that Wanda looks at Vision, that loving gaze so full of indescribable happiness. You know that look because you look at her the exact same way. You can see it in her eyes, the special joy she feels that’s reserved for Vision and Vision only. It hurts you, seeing her so happy when you wish she would look at you the same way, but knowing that she never would, no matter how much love you feel for her.

IMAGINE: ASKING BUCKY FOR A CAT AND HIM RELUCTANTLY GETTING ONE FOR YOU.

“What’ve you got there?” you ask, looking up from the couch upon hearing Bucky enter the apartment, a large bag slung over his shoulders. You raise an eyebrow as Bucky sits beside you, wordlessly unzipping the bag. You peer inside, eyes widening as you see a cat staring up at you, and you let out a delighted squeal, “Oh my God!”

Bucky tries to suppress his smile as you gently stroke the cat. You had been begging him for one for months now, constantly pestering him despite his refusal. The cat peeks its head out of the bag, looking up at Bucky before leaning its head up against his hand, and you beam at Bucky as you remark, “I think it likes you.”

Bucky gingerly begins to pet it, and it lets out a quiet purr as Bucky finally lets his smile crack through his expression.

IMAGINE: TONY FORCING YOU TO GO TO ONE OF HIS FANCY GALA PARTIES.

“Can we go please?” you whine, tugging at your formal outfit while Tony sips on his drink beside you. He scoffs at this, swirling his drink in the ice as he raises an eyebrow.

“We just got here.” Tony deadpans. “Besides, I’m the host. I can’t bail at my own party.”

“You suck.” you scowl, folding your arms across your chest. You already knew you were going to hate this, being dragged to one of Tony’s galas and him not really giving you much of a choice. You have no desire to mingle, to make small talk with all these people you don’t know. You don’t know how Tony can manage it, all the socialising, and you pout at Tony as he can’t help but chuckle at your dismal expression.

Thor: Love and Thunder

Proof that Jane Foster got blipped????????

She thinks it has only been three or four years and Thor says it has been over eight. If you do the math, she is missing approximately 5 years.

Kaleidoscope

Pairing: Steve Rogers x reader

Request: AU request where Steve lied about his age when he got into the army and now that he’s lived in the modern world, he starts doubting himself. The world isn’t as he remembered when he went into the ice, and he can’t really figure out the rules. So, when Tony makes a comment, it really hits home.

A/N The request is a summary of two very long requests. One of them mentioned Steve and the reader being teenagers, but I really don’t feel comfortable writing from the perspective of a teenager, so I’ve tried to incorporate it in a different way ✨

Tagging:@bitchwhytho@music-of-melody@shadowhuntyi@avada-kedavra-bitch-187

Sometimes, Steve’s hands still feel ice-cold despite the fact that he’s been out of the ice for almost 5 years now. Sometimes, Steve still shudders when you forget to turn on the radiator, even though his body temperature is probably hotter than the radiator. Sometimes, Steve imagines things that aren’t real, and you know this about him. Not because he’s told you, but because you like to watch him when he thinks no one watches him. It’s little things like always wanting a blanket when you’re sitting on the couch, or how he’ll bring his hands up to his mouth and blow warm air onto them even in the summertime. Steve Rogers is struggling. And you have no idea how to help him.

“Should we watch a movie?” you ask, entering your room where Steve is currently hiding under your duvet. He didn’t even get up for his morning run, which (despite how it sounds) worries you. Sam texted you asking if he was alright, and the truth is that you don’t have an answer for him. When there’s a mission, Steve is great. He takes on the persona of Captain America, and he can ignore his own mind while he fights, but it’s periods like this one where everything falls apart. In the silence, Steve can’t ignore his own doubts, and you know exactly how that feels.

“I’ll be right down,” he mutters, but make no effort to move.

“Come on. No time to be moping around,” you say, hoping you sound somewhat optimistic. You reach out a hand and grab the duvet to pull it back.

“There’s that pretty face of yours,” you tease, cupping his cheek.

“Hey,” he whispers, looking at you with clear adoration in his eyes. You hope your eyes don’t betray you and show your worry. You want to help him, but it’s hard when he won’t open up to you.

“Do you want to come downstairs?” Slowly, he gets up and follows you out into the hallway. His fingers intertwine with yours, and you’re happy to offer any kind of support you can. The rest of the team are already in the much too big living area that obviously has been designed by Tony.

“I was beginning to think you might have gotten lost somewhere in this high-tec building of mine. Don’t worry, big guy. Technology can be confusing.” Tony laughs, unaware of the feelings of doubt he’s creating in Steve by making that comment. You give his hand a gentle squeeze, remembering the many late nights when you stayed up to teach him about the world he woke up in. Technology, the historical events he missed, and even some pop culture - though he didn’t care much about the last one.

“Tony?”

“Yes, my dear,” he says, looking over at you with a glint in his eye.

“Shut up.” Everyone laughs and for a minute, things seem good. But one too many of those comments and you can just tell that Steve is regretting coming downstairs.

“Tony,” you warn but he just won’t stop today. Once again he’s on a roll and a little too self-centered to realize that Steve is not finding this funny at all.

“Do you ever stop talking? You think you’re so funny but all you know how to do is make people at the expense of someone else. For once, just shut up!” Everyone is quiet. It’s the first time Steve has ever had an outburst like this, and none of you know what to do.

“Rogers…” Tony doesn’t have time to formulate any kind of apology before Steve gets up and leaves the room.

“Thanks, Tony. Just what I needed,” you say before following Steve. When you find him sitting on the bed in your room, his chest is heaving as he struggles to control his breathing.

“I’m sorry,” he gasps. You keep quiet as you inch closer, giving him the chance to ask for space. But he hugs you tightly, allowing you to be the anchor he needs to calm down.

“I’m right here,” you say, stroking his back gently.

“It just got too much. I know I’m new to all of these things, but I’m trying to learn.”

“Steve, you’re not stupid. You came out of the ice as a 23-year-old guy after having missed crucial years of development within technology. Obviously, you have to learn a thing or two.” You kiss his forehead, feeling your heart crack for the boy who wanted to help save the world.

“You knew?”

“That you lied about your age when you signed up for the experiment? It’s my job to know those things.” You kiss him again - this time on his lips. You don’t comment on the salty taste or the fact that his cheeks are wet. You just stay right next to him and try to make him feel as loved as you know he is. Not just by you, but by everyone on the team.

You know Tony will find a way to apologize without ever saying the words “I’m sorry”, but you also know that he’ll never make another joke like that again. This is what family is. Sometimes, you cross a line without knowing it, and then you spend the rest of your life making sure it doesn’t happen again for the simple reason that you care.

“A lot of people care about you. Including me.”
