Ashol Pan.
13 year old Ashol Pan is one of the estimated last 250 Mongolian eagle hunters left in the world. And one of the very few women that are granted the privilege to be trained in this ancient, traditional hunting method. Golden eagles are used mainly to hunt foxes during the winter months.

This is dark. A Mongolian women left to die in a starvation box. Its horrific. The colourised photo makes it more distressing. You can’t just file it away in your brain along with all the other “inoffensive tragic historical images” It seems quite real. It could have happened yesterday. It also feels like the opening to a fucking great albeit disturbing movie…

“Blood dripped from his blade, from his wounds. Nergui felt it seep into his skin, the smell becoming sharper. He embraced the transformation, let it wrap around his body as thick black fur grew, stretching his clothes, his senses sharpening, nails becoming claws and teeth becoming fangs.
He felt the beast lurk under his skin. Felt it call out for more blood. Gritting his sharpened teeth Nergui pushed it back. He wouldn’t lose control. Not again.”

Odiin Nergui has been raised to fight monsters so that other people would be safe. He quickly learned that if you want to kill monsters, you have to pay a price. And sometimes, you have to become the monster.
