one thing that seems consistent throughout a lot of the show is that, after John dies, Sam and Dean tend to either speak positively about him, or they say something along the lines of yeah he was kinda shitty but he did his best (there are exceptions to this, especially with Sam, but this becomes more true the more the show drags on). but if someone else says something nice about their dad they look really upset lol
