People need to stop freaking out. They are changing the character a little bit, they didn’t murder Book! Annabeth and replace her.
It doesn’t work like that.
How it works is something like the Spiderverse.
There isn’t just ONE Spiderman, hell, there’s not even one Peter Parker! There are hundreds spread across the multiverse, too many to even count. Some are similar (Peter A and Peter B), others totally different (Spiderpig, Noir, Gwen Stacy), but all of them are Spiderman at the heart. And it’s the same with Annabeth.
There’s not just one, there are many. Countless versions of the character we know and love.
Book! Annabeth, Movie! Annabeth, Musical! Annabeth, Disney+! Annabeth. There’s probably more wild ones we don’t even know, Goddess! Annabeth and Turned-to-the-dark-side Annabeth, even Dude! Annabeth (Andrew? Andersen?). Some have minor differences (Movie Annabeth being a brunette, Disney+ Annabeth being black) and others major differences (Dark Annabeth having joined Kronos and Musical Annabeth breaking into spontaneous song, not understanding why her counterparts don’t just KNOW the lyrics).
But at heart, they carry the traits that truly make Annabeth Chase who she is:
Intelligence, curiosity, pride, a sarcastic wit, strength, loyalty to those she loves most, and an awesome judo flip.
That is what it means to be Annabeth Freaking Chase.
If all the versions of her looked and acted and lived exactly alike then it would be a pretty dull multiverse. It’s the little differences that makes them fun, allowing every Annabeth to be her own person and bring something new to the table.
It’s okay if you end up having a favorite Annabeth (mine will always be the OG, Book Annabeth) but it’s not okay to shame the actress or harass Rick about it. I have seen some seriously shameful behavior since the casting was announced and it’s honestly disappointing.
She is still Annabeth Chase, even if she looks different!
Disney+ Annabeth doesn’t take anything away from or ruin Book Annabeth just because she looks differently then her. They are two different versions of the same character, Annabeth A and Annabeth B, and that’s totally cool.

I have so much to say and also no words all at once. They are so perfect. They’re dynamic together, they’re individual personalities, they’re smiles . I’m just in disbelief that we got so lucky.
These kids are going to do fantastic, and they are going to bring our beloved characters to life.
Walker Scobell already being a fan of the pjo books is so comforting, bc he already knows this fandom and these characters and this complicated universe that he’s walking into.
He’s not new to this, and we as the fandom can sit back and relax knowing that one of our own is going to be our Percy.
No one will have to explain to him what Persassy is or why we feel the need to eat blue food in excessive amounts. He probably knows better than all of us, or will by the time the first season is over.
He will do Percy justice. He’s an amazing actor and longtime fan and he’s the perfect choice.
The way we are going to get to watch Leah and Walker act out the Percabeth love story.
We’re going to watch their annoyance with each other turn into friendship turn into love.
We’re going to watch them put their lives on the line for each other, laugh with each other, comfort each other and finally realize how much they love each other.
Friendly reminder than if I hear anything bad about Aryan or Leah it is on sight. If you have any opinions on how they’re not “book accurate” keep those opinions to yourself because they’re kids and don’t deserve hate for something they can’t control.
