Another race cancelled but my grind dont stop. It’s a little devastating but when I think about the gift of mobility, I cannot imagine being overwhelmed by the loss of an event.

Still figuring out my groove with this whole swimming thing but damn does it feel great to actually make strides. Yesterday I tackled just under 1000 yards, PRed my 100 + 400 according to my @Garmin and I feel progress in my endurance.

My body feels immaculate and haven’t encountered an endometriosis flare all week. I’ll be honest – I’m a little nervous about losing some of the muscle mass, watching certain things get leaner despite knowing that my body type will change because of the sport. I am reminding myself to focus on how I’m feeling versus being scared of the way that my body looks.

The entire world can tell you that you look and are amazing but those are things that you have to see in yourself. Despite shaky moments, I am confident in the skin that I’m in. If things start to level out with that bad C word that’s been plaguing all of these places, I will feel comfortable investing my money into my first tri. For the moment, I’m enjoying the ride of getting better with my craft.

Today’s Workout:

Cycling: 6 miles, 24 minutes
Swimming: 684 yards, 1 hour, 15 mins instruction – Freestyle + learning how to back float/ breathing while in freestyle (thanks Miss @officialsharong –I love this woman)
Run: 1 mile, 13:58/mi

Being surrounded in a room full of black excellence made me feel empowered. It’s not everyday that I have a reason to dress up. And it’s certainly not everyday that I’m able to interact with black history in motion.

Doesn’t matter what your level of success may be, depression affects everyone at some point. My spirits ran a little low yesterday afternoon and it rattled me just a bit.

Opted to go outside, take a moment and put some slow miles on my feet. It didn’t cure everything but I came back home rejuvenated.

Running, cycling, swimming – none of it replaces therapy but it’s definitely therapeutic to my soul.

Yesterday’s Movements:

Running: 3.1 miles (45 mins)
Cycling: 11.11 miles (45 mins)

Honest Moment:

Years ago, I had no idea what an International Women’s Day was or why people were hell bent on celebrating it. Don’t be afraid to raise your hands if I’m not alone.

Despite learning about women’s suffrage in my youth, I didn’t correlate the two. It didn’t hit home for me until I entered sports and it changed the trajectory of my life.

International Women’s Day is significant because we still live in a world where a significant amount of things aren’t equal. Our identities can unfairly determine our pay to being reduced down to looks versus impact or ability, especially in sports.

I don’t want to hit you with a cliche reason on why you should care; instead I’ll share why it’s important to me and how sports stimulated this development.

If it wasn’t for sports, I wouldn’t have an empowering female community to be vulnerable with, wouldn’t be in my career and I probably wouldn’t know the power of my voice and how I can use it to stimulate change. #IWD2020 is powerful to me because I am reminded that I can use my platform to bring awareness; I am also reminded to acknowledge my own achievements and being kinder to myself.

For IWD and days to follow, I’m implementing recovery and relaxation as priorities. It’s hard to feel motivated by your work if you never stop, stand back and admire the beauty you created.

Wishing us all growth on IWD. To check out my blurb, visit the link in the bio or type in the link provided below:

Could not resist sharing @bryce.cosplays as Fairy Tiana, I’ve been waiting for someone to bless us with this mashup

Posted @withregram • @bryce.cosplays FAIRY TIANA for my last #blackfaeday post!✨

I have absolutely LOVED seeing all the incredibly beautiful, whimsical, talented, Black Faeries today! Lately I’ve been taking more and more time away from social media for my mental health and have really seen a positive difference in my life. But I almost missed out on all the magic and sense of community today! I opened the app on a whim to check in, and I’m so glad I did! Seeing everyone’s posts did my heart a lot of good! Everyone looks wonderful and exudes so much joy and positivity! Big thanks to @brownsugarfairies for arranging all this! I’m glad I had some old fairy content tucked away, so I could join in this celebration last minute today!✨

PLEASE READ

When thinking about why I decided to create this comic I remember an incident in High School. When I was in ninth grade we had an entire unit in Humanities class dedicated to learning about world religions. In what our school thought was an inclusive discussion on world faiths and their impact on society and world history, our class learned about multiple denominations of Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, Hindusim and a host of other “Major Religions”. Not one African or African derived faith was included in our studies.  We learned about how these faiths shaped the history and worldview of each of the societies in which they were practiced. They even invited practitioners of each of these faiths to the school to share their beliefs and experiences with us. I remember hating that assignment. I remember with my teenage indignation handing in every annotated bibliography a week late. I remember every sneer and side-eye I gave my teacher as she chastised me on the importance of the project. I remember confronting her about omitting  African based faiths from her curriculum and her looking at me with her condescending white lady smile and selling me the same tired brand of bullshit I heard from well meaning white ladies my whole life “we need to focus on MAJOR religious traditions during this course” We wouldn’t be able to find any practitioner of African based faiths in Boston to speak meaningfully about their faith” This lady who taught mostly Black and/or Latino students (most of which were from the Caribbean) looked me dead in my mouth and told that boldfaced lie. In a unit that that focused on how religious philosophy shapes our perspectives, narratives and experiences she didn’t think it was important to at least try to expose us to even ONE of the myriad of African based faiths that had shaped the experiences of Afro-descended peoples throughout the diaspora. I’m making Itan: Part one for fifteen year old me. I’m making the book I needed read with the images I needed to see, because I know there are young people out there that need it too. I can’t fix a racially biased education systems singlehandedly, but with your help I can make this book. With your help I can expose people to a small portion of the infinite complexity that is Yoruba thought and aesthetics, one of the great traditions of the thousands of philosophical traditions of the African continent. If schools and media don’t want to tell our stories we can tell them ourselves! We can acknowledge and uplift them ourselves! We have the power to create, uplift and validate our own, history, and our own experiences. Support Itan: Part 1 Today visit https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/itan-part-one-africa-art/x/15991312#/. If you can’t donate then help spread the word.  Thank You

Hey guys! Here’s my 3rd new cosplay of this year: Red Sonja!! I’ve always wanted to cosplay as her for many years. She’s strong, fierce, and doesn’t let anything stop her. I’m super glad that I was able to do this cosplay.

I was suppose to debut this cosplay last week at a party, but things in real life happened and unfortunately I was unable to attend. Instead I’ll wear this cosplay at a future con/event. If my friends and I are doing our panel again at NYCC this year then I’ll wear this cosplay then. If not then it will be for Wintercon (if so then I’ll also wear her cape). I’ll even have her sword ready by then! But if there’s a geek event before NYCC & Wintercon that I can attend, then I’ll wear it and let you guys know!

It’s about time that a darker skinned AND plus sized cosplayer be Red Sonja!! I was looking at all of the cosplays and they all look amazing. I noticed that the cosplayers are all thin and lighter skinned and there was only one black Red Sonja. It’s time to change that! I want people realize that you can and should cosplay as any character you want regardless of your skin color and size! Don’t let anything stop you!

Hope you all have a great evening!
