Why I think Pluto Projector is the perfect Lumity song. Strap in cause this is a long one

  1. I would just like to start off by saying that this song is already a beautiful song and the instrumentals are what make it special. And the background for Reaching Out just made me think of this song because they both revolve around a space setting. And the backgrounds in the song are beautiful.
  2. I’m a music nerd so whenever I see people or characters, often times I think about what instrument they would play. To me I think Luz would play a classical guitar, maybe electric if she was feeling like leaning on the dark side. Amity seems like someone who would play keyboard. Not quite a piano because piano would be something that her mom wants but she seems like a girl who wants variety. Also she likes a challenge and keyboard can be very challenging.
  3. That being said, this song mixes a lot of instruments, the main one being a guitar. So I guess this would be more of Luz expressing her love to Amity. Also, there is a keyboard in this song that is in the background but I’ll explain why that’s important in a bit.
  4. At the beginning of the song, the lyrics say “The great protector, is that what I’m supposed to be.” I feel like this is a correlation to Luz always trying to protect everyone and make sure everyone is safe. She always feels like she’s responsible for everyone’s happiness, even if she’s not feeling her best. It’s very obvious in Reaching Out that all she wants is to spread love and joy and not let anyone down.
  5. Next lyric is “What if all this counts for nothing, everything I thought I’d be. What if by the time I realized, it’s too far behind to see.” This alludes to the fact that she has to go home and she’s afraid that she’s gonna have to leave everyone behind, including her beautiful girlfriend. That everything she encountered in the demon realm was for nothing and when she realizes the mistakes she’s made, it would’ve already been too late. What mistakes? The mistake of not opening up to Amity about things.
  6. Next lyric is “70 mil projector, I can show you everything thing.” I think this would be about Luz opening up to Amity. As we know from Reaching Out, and other occasions, Luz has a hard time opening up to people. She’s afraid of bringing them down with her. We know she tried opening up to Eda, but all she was able to say was that it was a special day for her. And she never told Amity that it was a special day, Amity found out through Eda. Once Amity confronted her, that’s when Luz started to project her inner thoughts and feelings about the day. She’s slowly showing more of her past to Amity.
  7. Next lyric is “And we’re on our way to glory, where the show won’t ever end. And the encore last forever. And there’s time with you to spend.” I think this is pretty apparent. Luz wants to spend the rest of eternity with Amity. She wants the show (their relationship) to last forever. If there’s ever a time where she can spend it with Amity, she’ll do it in a heartbeat. I think Amity knows this and that’s part of the reason why she helps Luz. Because she knows that she can be a distraction to Luz and wants her to stay on task and focus. (Just a headcannon)
  8. “Spending the years together, growing older everyday.” This one is also pretty apparent. Luz thinking about the days she’s spent with Amity. Hoping to grow old together forever. Also this is where the keyboard comes in the background. So whatever Luz has to say from now on, Amity is backing her up.
  9. “I feel at home when I’m around you, and I’ll gladly say again. I hope the encore last forever. Now there’s time for us to spend. And sublime with you my friend.” This line would be Luz showing that Amity makes her feel at home. Whenever Amity laughs, smiles or even tries to talk spanish, she gets excited. She so in love with her. Amity just makes her feel welcomed and important.
  10. “This right here still feels like the honeymoon, when you say my name.” You know how relationships always start off with a honeymoon phase, I think their still on that. Not saying it’s a bad thing, it’s cute. And everytime they flirt, it just starts over again.
  11. “Nothing’s changed. I’m still a boy inside my thoughts. Am I meant to understand my faults.” Luz knows that she’s messed up plenty of times. Not just in the demon realm but back home too. She was seen as a weirdo who always got sent to the principal’s office. She’s changed but hasn’t at the same time. She still believes in magic like she did before she left. She’s still reckless and gets into a lot of trouble. She will always be that kind of person now. But now she has someone who will accept her with all her faults.
  12. “I don’t think so. I don’t think I’m meant to understand myself. Maybe you do. And that’s good for you.” I think this refers to the fact that Amity knows Luz more than Luz knows herself. Amity knows when Luz is avoiding something, or when she’s sad, or when she’s lying and Amity always knows what to do in those situations. She knows how to comfort her and make her feel special.
  13. “Maybe in time, maybe one day. I’ll do the same.” Luz is hoping to do the same with Amity. She wants to be able to understand Amity the way Amity understands her. She wants to always be there to comfort her and know what she needs.
  14. “I’ll do the same as you, I’ll to hold it up. Soon I hope or as soon as I’m old enough.” This is just refering to the last bullet point. But I do wanna say that this is the beginning of my favorite part. I guess you can say it’s an introduction. This part is by far one of my favorite pieces to play on any instrument.
  15. “Old enough to understand.” This line is repeated while a small orchestra plays in the background with the guitar leading. The keyboard is no longer playing because this is now Amity listening to Luz expressing her love. Luz has lots of love to give but the guitar is not enough so the orchestra helps her let it all out. The Orchestra gets louder as Luz expresses more of her love towards Amity.
  16. The orchestra comes to an end leaving Luz alone to share her final thoughts.
  17. “Stay forever, you know more than anyone. And it’s you who knows my darkness, and you know my bedroom needs. You could blast me and my secrets, but there’s probably just no need.” Luz knows Amity knows her too well and she’s ok with it. She trusts Amity with her life and she knows that Amity would never expose her or cause her any harm on purpose. She knows that she can count on Amity with any of her needs. And that’s why she wants amity to stay with her forever. Because only Amity can make her feels this way.

This song is my favorite song. From the lyrics to chord progressions. The other thing with this song is that is very ambiguous. So it doesn’t even need to be about Lumity, it cpuld be about other things. Honestly if you actually read all this then I’m assuming you think I’m a big massive music nerd, and you’re right. But this song just speaks to me in so many ways. I hope y'all listen to it because it’s definitely a song worth listening to. The artist, Rex Orange County, makes a lot of great songs in general so maybe give his other songs a listen.
