When you’re avoiding what’s difficult your life gets harder

My life is really simple because I do what’s hard every day. I workout my mind and body and I say what needs to be said when it needs to be said without hesitation (most of the time lol)

When I find myself holding back from what I know needs to be said it’s because I’m living in the fear of what could happen as a result of doing what needs to be done

This is called living in a thought prison and it causes us to miss out on the expansive experience of life that we could be having if we were to treat thought as a visitor

Fleeting and temporary is the nature of thinking and life - when we let it come and go we are truly free to experience life and all the wonderment that will unfold

Do you ever stand outside and swear at the rain? Do you ever grapple with raindrops and ask them why they torment you? No? Well what’s the difference between raindrops and thoughts?

Thinking is helpful, it helps us throughout our lives from making decisions to working our jobs - the intention of treating thought as neutral is not to have us distrust our thinking but rather help us use it when it’s appropriate to use it✅

Using a hammer to eat a bowl of cereal is an inappropriate use of the tool just like using the mind to analyse thought is an inappropriate use of the tool - when we learn to set the mind down instead of using it to analyse is when we truly free ourselves from the prison of overthinking

You are perfect as you are, only thought would have you believe otherwise

It would be great if we could choose what we think about but unfortunately life doesn’t work that way and we only get to choose what we focus on✅

If you’re analysing thought to try and understand why something happened or didn’t happen recognise that you’re living through who you think you are which demands answers because it needs to reconcile what the event means about you

The real you doesn’t give a fuck what anything means or doesn’t mean because it is never damaged by anything that’s ever happened because it is whole and complete

The only thing that takes us away from our natural state of peace is believing a lie and the lie originates with whatever random thought is running through our heads in the moment

How freeing it is to see that thought doesn’t have to mean anything

Feelings don’t have to mean anything

They come and go just like breath, if we let them! But holding on to feelings and analysing them only makes them linger for longer

When we dig into our feelings and try to figure out where they’re coming from all we’re doing is judging and analysing which takes us further and further from the place we want to get to - where we were before the feeling

To get back to that place all we need to do is drop the thinking, drop the analysis and come back to quiet

Easier said than done I know but it starts with giving yourself permission to have nothing on your mind and from there you will find peace

1. Make up your mind to do things differently. Make the decision to turn this thing around. You have all the power you need, and you can make this work for you.

2. Decide to only work on one habit at a time. That focuses your mind, and your will to succeed.

3. Design a plan that is attractive and rewarding. If the pain exceeds the gain then you may not persevere. There must be something that’s enticing to make it seem worthwhile.

4. Nuke your negative thinking. You know that things will be tough and you’ll be tempted to give up – but plan in advance so you can push through trying times. For example, imagine how you’ll feel when you are living differently, and you’ve broken with the habit, and are basking in success.

5. Know the worst times of day, and the times you struggle most. Then come up with a plan so you cope better with those. But … make sure your ideas work, and are attractive enough, as it’s hard to keep on going when we’re low on energy.

6. Keep it simple. A harsh or complex plan can be too hard to implement. But making simple changes feels much more doable. (Also, remind yourself “it’s easy; this is something I can do.”)

7. Notice your successes. And reward yourself with that. Your effort’s paying off – and you are closer to your goal.

1. It will hurt.

2. It will take time and effort.

3. It will require commitment.

4. It will require perseverance.

5. You will need to keep on making healthy decisions.

6. It will require pain and sacrifice.

7. You will need to push yourself to the max at times.

8. There will be tough days and discouragement.

9. There will be temptations that you’ll have to push against.

10. But it will all be worth it – and you’ll get there in the end.

1. Believing negative, unproductive and self-defeating thoughts. These include thoughts like “I could never … I’m not good enough to … I don’t deserve to … I’m useless at …”

2. Blaming others. It’s true that other people can have a huge affect on what happens to us, and where we are in life. But we give them too much power if we let them set our course, and see ourselves as victims, and act like we’ve no power.

3. Taking ourselves too seriously. It’s important to work hard and to have integrity – but we also have to laugh and enjoy ourselves as well. Also, decide to let things go, and put up with some mistakes. You’re not a perfect person and, the truth is - that’s OK!

4. Being afraid to take some risks or to live close to the edge. To have an interesting life you must leave your comfort zone and say “yes” to some new chances and opportunities. It will broaden your perspective, reduce anxiety, and provide you with new options and possibilities.

5. Being afraid of change. It doesn’t take much effort to stick with what you know. The unknown can seem daunting as we don’t know where that leads! But we grow as individuals and lead a richer life if we learn to accept changes, instead of being scared.
