Gaining Steam was a collaborative project made possible by artists and scientists to teach the community about the scientific advancements happening at @uwmadison using comic books.
Now you don’t have to ponder about how stars were formed or about the origins of life, we have you covered! We created SEVEN comic books, and neatly packaged them, and bios of about the scientists and artists behind the work, into a single book for your reading pleasure. Trust us, it’s a pleasure to read!

We are already at day five of our Awesome Author challenge for the #circleofbookishfriends that I am co hosting with THE author himself, @authormichaelreidjr (if you’re not following him, how are you succeeding at life?)

Today’s prompt is self published authors. I actually have a lot to choose from since I love supporting indie authors, @authormichaelreidjr @theconstantvoice @harmonylawson2016 @ejmellow
But I just got bookmail from @fluorescentones so I chose her new book Fates Aflame by P. Anastasia which has its own coloring book!
This book is definitely for a YA audience and I plan on sharing it with my 13 year old niece. She would LOVE the premise:
“Earth granted her the ability to conjure fire at will, but the birth of her powers awakens a curse and a perilous trial unfolds, putting lives of those she loved in jeopardy. When extinct beasts brought forth by scientists magic threaten her life, she has no choice but to take a stand…”
My call is to support these indie authors as much as we are able. I read some crap published books so it bothers me there so many cool authors that just need that big break!

The “Soon To Be Famous” Illinois Author Project—which has awarded the best self-published book in Illinois for five years—has announced a new contest to find the best, unpublished manuscript in Illinois. The statewide self-published contest was the first of its kind, and the Illinois Author Project is now once again leading the way with this new contest.
Open to any unpublished manuscript from an Illinois resident, the winner will receive professional line editing and professional cover art design services, valued at $10,000.
Submissions open in October 2018, with the winner being announced in April 2019.
Know a writer or writers groups in Illinois? Be sure to check out the Soon To Be Famous website for updates come October. This is a great opportunity for a local writer to have a professional-level manuscript to pitch to publishers or self-publish through a program like SELF-e.
Submissions for both the new manuscript contest and the existing “Soon To Be Famous” self-published contest are made possible by BiblioBoard. Libraries can learn more about Custom Submission Pages and library-driven contests by visiting the BiblioBoard website or contacting [email protected].
