El pintor japonés Manabu Ikeda (1973) dibuja mundos imaginarios a gran escala que detallan intrincadamente lo que el artista llama “el conflicto y la coexistencia entre el hombre y la naturaleza”. Ejecutado en finos bolígrafos, tintas y pigmentos acrílicos, el nivel de precisión y complejidad se remonta a la antigua tradición artesanal japonesa (takumi). Su tema, sin embargo, es simultáneamente contemporáneo y atemporal, extraído de los eventos actuales y recuerdos personales, sus trabajos se han enfocado cada vez más en catástrofes naturales como terremotos, tsunamis y desastres nucleares.

Ha realizado exposiciones individuales en la Galería Chinami en la Prefectura de Nagano y en el Museo del Oeste de Vancouver, entre otros. Ikeda ha participado en exposiciones colectivas en instituciones como la Japan Society Gallery en Nueva York, el Niigata Bandaijima Art Museum en Niigata Prefecture y el National Art Centre en Tokio.
