I’ve been a bit lazy keeping my blog up to date, but today I managed to shoot some pictures of my miniatures. Here’s my current work, the Crusader from my Protectorate army. As you can see, I’m still working on it; neither his mace is coloured nor has he any damaged or rusted parts. I want all of my disciples of Menoth to have a more or less wrecked look like they are currently at war. The Protectorate was born in war and if war is necessary to ensure its existence, there will be always war.

In letzter Zeit habe ich es etwas schleifen lassen, meinen Blog auf dem neuesten Stand zu halten, doch heute habe ich es geschafft, weitere Bilder von meinen Figuren zu machen. Hier ist mein aktuelles Projekt, der Kreuzritter meiner Menithen. Wie man sieht, ist er noch in Arbeit, hat er doch weder einen bemalten Streitkolben noch irgendwelche angeschlagene oder rostige Teile. Ich möchte schließlich allen meinen Jüngern Menoth’ einen mehr oder weniger angschlagenen Look verpassen, als wären sie dauernd im Krieg. Schließlich entstand das Protektorat im Krieg und wenn weiterer Krieg notwendig ist, um seine Existenz zu sichern, wird es immer Krieg geben.

Something different this time: not a miniature but a model house for my High Elves army. It is basically made of balsa wood from the local hardware store. The basic roof is an old cereal package and the roof tiles are made of cardboard from an old writing pad. The windows and ornaments are cut out with a sharp knife. As you can see, it is not painted yet because I want to make more of them . In fact, this should just be a small tower in a bigger building.

What inspired me the most to build an elven house, was this site: http://gidian-gelaende.de/?p=887  It is nearly three years old but still beautiful. Compared to Wolfgang (the master who built the Elven Port I linked above) I’m a total newbie in architecture. Just click a little through his gallery, I promise, you will be deeply impressed!

Diesmal etwas anderes als eine Miniatur: ein Modellhäuschen für meine Hochelfen. Es besteht hauptsächlich aus Balsaholz aus dem örtlichen Baumarkt. Das Dachgerüst ist aus einer alten Müslischachtel geschnitten und die Dachpfannen sind aus der Pappe, die immer hinter Collegeblöcken ist. Die Fenster und Ornamente habe ich einfach mit einem Cutter ausgeschnitten. Wie man sieht, ist es noch nicht bemalt, das hat den Hintergrund, dass ich mehr davon bauen möchte, tatsächlich sollte dies nur ein kleiner Turm für ein größeres Gebäude sein.

Am meisten hat mich diese Seite hier zum Bau angeregt: http://gidian-gelaende.de/?p=887  Die Seite ist zwar knapp drei Jahre alt und ziemlich inaktiv, aber immer noch wunderschön für Bastler und Beobachter. Verglichen mit Wolfgang (dem Maestro, der den verlinkten Hafen gebaut hat) bin ich im Modellbau blutiger Anfänger. Klickt euch einfach ein bisschen durch seine Galerie, ihr werdet tief beeindruckt sein, versprochen!

As I promised, here’s Marcuss, fully painted (his base is not finished - shame on me!) and ready to fight for Menoth’ righteous war. In the last picture you find my current progress on my Warmachine models: another Cinerator, Brother Rechart, a former cleric who figured, that most heretics are not convertible with pious words but rather with forged steel. I’m looking forward to paint him and the other three Cinerators (who are still nameless) soon (and finish their bases…man, nearly none of my roundabout 80 elven models is based…I see lots of work upcoming…)

Wie angekündigt seht ihr hier Bilder vom fertig bemalten Marcuss (sein Base ist nicht fertig - Asche über mein Haupt!), der bereit ist, in Menoth rechtschaffenem Krieg zu kämpfen. Im letzten Bild findet sich mein aktueller Fortschritt an meinen Warmachinemodellen: noch ein Cinerator, Bruder Rechart, ein früherer Priester, der herausfand, dass die meisten Häretiker sich besser mit geschmiedetem Stahl als mit frommen Worten bekehren lassen. Ich freue mich schon darauf, ihn und die anderen drei (noch namenlosen) Cinerators bald zu bemalen (und ihre Bases fertig zu machen…man, fast keins meiner etwa 80 Elfenmodelle hat eine fertige Base…da kommt eine Menge Arbeit auf mich zu…)

I continued with Marcuss’ armour and clothes. It should all look a little used and worn, like Marcuss has already sent several unbelievers to Urcaen and defended the Protectorate against a huge number of enemies from other Iron Kingdoms. His robe is white, but dirty and dusty. I brushed mostly with brown and black colours and a dark yellow over the lower part of the robe to create a look of dirt that Marcuss got while his unit marched through swamps or while it was raining and the ground was utterly covered with wet dirt. In his right leg pad is a splatter of blood to be found, the last remain of a Heretic fighting against Menoth’ superior reign. Naturally, his shield does not stay as fancy and clean as it was produced when it has to save Marcuss’ head in of the conflicts, Marcuss is involved in, so some scratches cover its surface, although Marcuss takes special care of the Menofix in the middle, so each time, Menoth’ holy symbol is damaged, Marcuss takes some time after the battle is won (naturally, each battle is won: If the enemy flees or is utterly smashed in the dust of the battlefield, a battle is definitely won - if the Protectorate’s forces are defeated, their blood was needed to fullfill Menoth’ plans. A lost battle is for sure planned by him and he will welcome the fallen as heroes in the other world. All hail Menoth!) and repairs the damaged part of the Menofix. No shield is a better protection against enemies than Menoth’ blessing.

Ich habe an Marcuss’ Rüstung und Kleidung weitergearbeitet, wobei ich versucht habe, diese ein wenig gebraucht und abgetragen aussehen zu lassen, so als hätte Marcuss darin bereits zahlreiche Ungläubige nach Urcaen geschickt und das Protektorat gegen viele Feinde aus den anderen Eisernen Königreichen verteidigt. Seine Robe ist weiß, aber dreckig und staubig. Ich habe hauptsächlich mit braunen und schwarzen Farben und einem dunklen Gelb über den unteren Teil der Robe gebürstet, um den Eindruck zu erwecken, Marcuss habe sich diesen Dreck zugezogen, als seine Einheit durch einen Sumpf oder durch vom Regen völlig aufgeweichten Matsch marschierte. Auf seiner rechten Beinplatte findet sich ein Spritzer Blut, das letzte Überbleibsel eines Häretikers, der gegen Menoth’ überlegene Herrschaft kämpfte. Natürlich bleibt auch sein Schild nicht so schön und sauber, wie er zur Zeit seiner Produktion war, wenn er in den vielen Konflikten, die Marcuss für das Protektorat und Menoth ausficht, ständig Marcuss Kopf retten muss, folglich ist er von vielen Kratzern und Schrammen bedeckt. Marcuss kümmert sich besonders um das Menofix in der Mitte des Schilds und jedes Mal, wenn Menoth heiliges Symbol in einer Schlacht beschädigt wird, nimmt Marcuss sich nach dem gewonnenen Kampf (jeder Kampf ist ein gewonnener: Flieht der Feind oder liegt er im Staub, ist der Sieg eindeutig, sind die Kräfte des Protektorats besiegt, erfüllten sie nur einen weiteren Aspekt in Menoth’ großem Plan, denn sicher ist der Ausgang jeder Schlacht von ihm geplant die Gefallenen werden in der anderen Welt von ihm als Helden empfangen - Preiset Menoth!) die Zeit, die kaputten Stücke des Menofix zu reparieren. Denn kein Schild schützt dermaßen gut, wie der Segen des Schöpfers.

Continuing my work on the miniatures from the battlebox, I had some fun with building and painting Exemplar Cinerators. I cleared them of remains from the casting frame (had a little bending job to do at their swords, hot water helped a lot) and added some glue - et voilà - had five Cinerators ready to receive some colour. I did not glue their shields for reaching the left part of their body better with my brush.  After giving all five of them a black primer, I started to paint the first Cinerator in the standard colour scheme of Menoth. Painting this guy - I will call  him Marcuss; one thing I like especially about Warmachine is in contrast to Warhammer (no matter if 40k or Fantasy) that you do not have masses of miniatures so you can imagine some stories about how they came to fight in the army of Menoth or some other details, which is, let’s be honest, a little bit difficult for about 200 goblins… well, back to topic - was fun to me, I like his pose and all in all his big, massive armour that give him a look like nothing could smash him. So, this is Marcuss, waiting for getting a finished paintjob.

I’m sorry for the pictures to be so fuzzy and either too bright or too dark; I have to improve my photography skills.

Badluck was, while I tidied my place, I knocked my lamp, that instanty fell down and took my pot of water down which flushed the whole living room. Luckily, nothing worse happend with this combination of electricity and water.

Während ich mich weiter durch die Meniten der Battlebox arbeite, bin ich heute an die Cinerators (ich hab leider nur die englische Statkarte und auch im Netz nicht deren deutschen Namen gefunden - oder heißen die so?) geraten. Wie man es bei Figuren immer tut, habe ich sie erst entgratet (und musste ihre Schwerter ein wenig geradebiegen, heißes Wasser hilft da ungemein) und dann zusammengeklebt; die Schilde habe ich noch weggelassen, damit ich den linken Körperteil besser bemalen kann. Nach der Grundierung habe ich mir den ersten Cinerator vorgenommen und begonnen, ihn im Standard-Menoth-Schema zu bemalen. Beim Bemalen dieses Genossen - ich nenne ihn Marcuss; was mir an Warmachine super gefällt ist, dass man nicht Unmengen an Figuren hat, wie bei Warhammer (40k oder Fantasy) und man sich mehr auf den Hintergrund derselben konzentrieren kann, zum Beispiel, wie sie dazu kamen, in den Armeen Menoth’ zu kämpfen und andere Details, was, ehrlich gesagt, bei etwa 200 Goblins sehr mühselig ist… zurück zum Thema - hatte ich ziemlich viel Spaß, die Pose gefällt mir prima und seine massige Rüstung lässt ihn wirken, als könne ihn nichts umhauen. Das ist also Marcuss, der darauf wartet, fertig bemalt zu werden.

Schusslig wie ich bin, hab ich leider beim Aufräumen meine Lampe umgestoßen, die prompt den Wasserpott mitgerissen hat und den halben Wohnzimmerboden getränkt hat. Zum Glück ist mit der Elektrizität und dem Wasser nicht noch mehr passiert.

Ich entschuldige mich für die schlechte Bildqualität, ich muss dringend an meinen Fotografiekünsten arbeiten.

Today I’m working on my new Warmachine miniatures, the Protectorates from the battlebox containing Menoth and Khador, more precisely on a Repenter. First, I removed all the pieces remaining from the casting frame with a sharp knife, as you see in the first picture. Then I glued it all together, except of the head which I’ll add after paintig it. I also didn’t fix it to the base because I’m not already sure about how I’ll design it; either it will be red sand or stone plates like on an old road.

Momentan arbeite ich an meinen neuen Warmachinefiguren, dem Protektorat aus der Battlebox mit Menoth und Khador, genauer gesagt, an einem Büßer. Zuerst habe ich mit einem Cutter alle Gußgrate entfernt, das Ergebnis sieht man auf dem ersten Bild. Danach habe ich alles außer den Kopf angeklebt. Der Kopf wird später dazukommen, damit ich ihn vom Körper losgelöst besser bemalen kann. Der Büßer ist auch noch nicht fest auf der Base, da ich noch nicht sicher bin, wie ich diese gestalten werde, ich schwanke noch zwischen rotem Sand oder Steinplatten, die einen alten Weg darstellen sollen.

A WiP picture of my Repenter. The work that has to be done is the upper part of the exhaust pile and the waisting. People who know the Repenter model, might notice the fire coming out of the flamethrower which is not on the standart  model. Ironically, this fire was once meant to be part of the Frostheart Phoenix from my Warhammer High Elves but I decided to put the throne on the Phoenix’ back so this was a leftover and I rasped it until it fitted in the flamethrower’s opening.

Leute, die das Büßermodell kennen, werden das Feuer am Flammenwerfer bemerkt haben, das dort eigentlich nicht hin gehört. Ironischerweise war dieses Feuer ein Teil des Frostherzphönixes der Hochelfen von Warhammer, aber ich habe dem Phönix lieber den Thron aufgesetzt und so war dieses Teil über und ich habe es so lange zurechtgefeilt, bis es in die Öffnung vom Flammenwerfer gepasst hat.

The first update since months, I got a new computer and for some reason it’s missing a SD-Port and now I can’t transfer pictures from the camera to the computer, so I have to use the tumblr app on my phone.

This is High Exemplar Kreoss, my very first Warcaster and thus my army’s leader. There are still shades and scratches to add, but the basis is done.

Das erste Update seit Monaten. Ich habe einen neuen Computer und aus dubiosen Gründen hat er keinen SD-Port und ich kann keine Bilder mehr von der Kamera auf den PC ziehen, also muss ich jetzt die tumblr App nutzen.

Hier ist der Hohe Exemplar Kreoss, mein allererster Warcaster und somit der Anführer meiner kleinen Armee. Ihm fehlen noch Schattierungen und Kratzer, aber die Grundlage steht immerhin schonmal.

Number four, Pyotr Vadik Zolmow, has his roots in Khador, as his red cloak represents. He is a bulky man with a harsh accent and earthy humor and when his unit is marching towards the battlefield, he is the one who keeps his comrade’s mood on a more or less happy level by telling stories from his homeland and infecting the others with his plain satisfaction. In Khador, Pyotr often participated in bar fights or fights somewhere else and on the battlefield he stands in the frontline, slaying the foe with his sword or even knocking them down with his bare fists. Nobody knows exactly, why Pyotr left Khador and joined the Cinerators and when someone asks him, he just kindly claps his hand on the questioner’s shoulder and starts talking about something else.

Nummer Vier, Pjotr Vadik Zolmow, hat seine Wurzeln in Khador, wie sein roter Mantel widerspiegelt. Er ist ein bulliger Mann mit einem rauen Akzent und derbem Humor und wenn seine Einheit in Richting des Schlachtfeldes marschiert, hält er die Laune seiner Kameraden auf einem mehr oder weniger fröhlichen Niveau indem er Geschichten aus seinem Heimatland und steckt die anderen mit seiner einfachen Zufriedenheit an. In Khador war Pjotr häufig an Schlägereien in Kneipen oder anderen Orten beteiligt und auf dem Schlachtfeld steht er an der Front, den Feind mit seinem Schwert oder mit den blanken Fäusten niederstreckend. Niemand weiß genau, warum Pjotr Khador verlassen hat und den Cinerators beigetreten ist und wenn ihn jemand fragt, schlägt er ihm nur freundlich auf die Schulter und fängt an, über irgendetwas anderes zu reden.

The third Cinerator is ready for battle. Falman Rhazeel grew up as an orphan. He was found by a unit of Exemplar Cinerators in a house in a demolished village  that was destroyed near the Cygnarian borderline. The Cinerator’s Commander, Alzun Rhazeel took care of the young boy, whose survival seemed like a miracle, and treated him as his own son. Falman joined the Cinerators as soon as he was old enough and asked for the permission to fight under his foster-father. Due to his youth, he is unbridled and furious when the battle is on and often he has to be retained by his comrades. Nevertheless he is totally loyal and would never doubt an order of his Commander.

Der dritte Cinerator ist bereit ür die Schlacht. Falman Rhazeel wuchs als Waise auf. Eine Einheit Exemplar Cinerators fand ihn in einem Haus einer zerstörten Seidlung, die nahe der Cygnarischen Grenze ausradiert wurde. Der Kommandant der Cinerators, Alzun Rhazeel kümmerte sich um den Jungen, dessen Überleben wie ein Wunder schien und behandelte ihn wie seinen eigenen Sohn. Falman trat den Cinerators bei, sobald er alt genug war und bat um die Erlaubnis, unter dem Kommando seines Ziehvaters kämpfen zu dürfen. Aufgrund seiner Jungend ist er ungezügelt und wild, wenn es zum Kampf kommt und nicht selten müssen seine Kameraden ihn zurückhalten. Dennoch ist er absolut loyal und würde einen Befehl seines Kommandanten niemals anzweifeln.

The next completed Cinerator is Brother Rechart. He is a silent fighter who rarely speaks, completely dedicated to Menoth. To him, deeds matter more than devout words and steel is more convincing than fiery sermons. Heretics and traitors can’t expect any form of mercy when Brother Rechart’s wrath come over them.

Der nächste bemalte Cinerator heißt Bruder Rechart. Er ist ein stiller Kämpfer, der nur selten spricht und sein Leben ausschließlich Menoth widmet. Seiner Meinung nach zählen Taten mehr als fromme Worte und Stahl ist überzeugender als feurige Predigten. Häretiker und Verräter können keine Form von Gnade erwarten, wenn Bruder Recharts Zorn über sie fegt.

The finished Crusader, having this used look with scratches and dust like the Cinerators. The head is still missing because I’m not sure if I like it or not. This Crusader named “Hand of Sulon" is in use since the very first years of the Protectorate and is - due to the Warcasters’ good care - in excellent condition. Over the decades, thousands of skulls were smashed under the Hand’s heavy mace and if nothing too bad is about to happen, more are to follow.

Der fertige Kreuzritter hat den gleichen abgenutzten Look mit Kratzern und Dreck wie die Cinerators. Der Kopf fehlt noch, da ich mir selbst noch nicht sicher bin, ob mir das Design gefällt oder nicht. Dieser Kreuzritter, die “Hand von Sulon” ist bereits seit den frühesten Jahren des Protektorats in Benutzung und ist - dank der guten Pflege durch die Warcaster - in exzellenter Verfassung. Über die Jahrzehnte wurden tausende Schädel unter dem schweren Streitkolben der Hand zertrümmert und sofern ihr nichts allzu Schlimmes widerfährt, werden diesen Schädeln noch viele weitere folgen.
