In the first [account of the Second Age (The Rings of Power)] we see a sort of second fall or at least ‘error’ of the Elves. There was nothing wrong essentially in their lingering against counsel, still sadly with the mortal lands of their old heroic deeds. But they wanted to have their cake without eating it. They wanted peace and bliss and perfect memory of 'The West’, and yet remain on the ordinary earth where their prestige as the highest people, above wild Elves, dwarves, and Men, was greater than at the bottom of the hierarchy of Valinor. They thus became obsessed with 'fading’, the mode in which the changes of time (the law of the world under the sun) was perceived by them. They became sad, and their art (shall we say) antiquarian, and their efforts all really a kind of embalming–even though they also retained the old motive of their kind, the adornment of earth, and the healing of its hurts. … There arose a friendship between the usually hostile folk (of Elves and Dwarves) for the first and only time, and smithcraft reached its highest development. But many of the Elves listened to Sauron. He was still fair in that early time, and his motives and those of the Elves seemed to go partly together: the healing of the desolate lands. Sauron found their weak point in suggesting that, helping one another, they could make Western Middle-earth as beautiful as Valinor. It was really a veiled attack on the gods, an incitement to try and make a separate independent paradise. Gilgalad repulsed all such overtures, as also did Elrond. But at Eregion great work began–and the Elves came their nearest to falling to ’magic’ and machinery. With the aid of Sauron’s lore they made the Rings of Power….

Armored Witch by Jonas Spokas

Nightwhisperer, the third mage, is a mysterious nobleman from the Shadowlands, whose family participated in the Civil War on Malekith’s side. No one knows why (and Nightwhisperer won’t tell anyone, of course) and how they have changed sides, but like most of the old Nagarythe families, Nightwhisperer’s family swore eternal revenge to the Druchii, left their homes and began to fight a silent war against Malekith’s servants. Nightwhisperer never told someone his real name and according to rumours, he doesn’t even know it. He is well-versed in the Lore of Shadows and the Lore of Death. I plan to give him a scythe, following all death mage clichés.

Nachtflüsterer, der dritte Magier, ist ein mysteriöser Adliger aus den Schattenlanden, dessen Familie im Bruderkrieg zuerst auf Malekiths Seite stand. Niemand weiß, wie (und Nachtflüsterer wird es auch niemandem verraten) und warum sie später die Seite wechselte, doch wie viel der alten Familien aus Nagarythe schwor Nachtflüsterers Familie den Druchii ewige Rache, verließ ihre Heimat und begann einen stillen Krieg gegen Malekiths Gefolgschaft. Nachtflüsterer hat nie jemandem seinen wahren Namen verraten und es gehen Gerüchte um, er kenne ihn nicht einmal selbst. Er ist versiert in der Lehre der Schatten und der Lehre des Todes und allen Klischees eines Todesmagiers folgend, möchte ich ihm noch eine Sense in die Hand geben.

The second of my four mages, Yladra of Hoeth, the Maid of Dawn, is a conversion I made nearly half a year ago. Her body is based on the mage contained in the Island of Blood starterpack and, as I had him twice because I bought the Elves from this box on eBay after I already had the box, I decided to build another mage. So I took some Green Stuff and changed the mage’s gender. Today I would say I could have taken less Green Stuff for the breasts, but it was my first try, so nevermind. Her spear is from some Wood Elf, I do not know exactly which one and the orb-wand is, like her head, from the dragon mage, I think. Her hair is simply the tail of one of the horses from the chariot. I made a Lion Chariot, so the horses were left over and I could use the tail. Yladra uses either the Lore of White Magic or the Lore of Light, but rather the White Magic as I use it more often than Light.

Der zweite meiner vier Magier, Yladra von Hoeth, die Maid des Morgens, ist ein  Umbau, den ich vor etwa einem halben Jahr gemacht habe. Ihr Körper basiert auf dem Magier aus der Blutinsel Starterbox, den ich zweimal hatte, nachdem ich mir noch einmal die Elfen aus der Box bei eBay geholt habe. Also habe ich mich entschieden, einen anderen Magier daraus zu bauen und mit ein wenig Green Stuff sein Geschlecht geändert. Heute würde ich sagen, ich hätte weniger Green Stuff für die Brüsten nehmen sollen, aber es war mein erster Versuch, und das gilt als Ausrede. Ihr Speer ist von irgendeinem Waldelfen und der Zauberstab und der Kopf sind glaube ich aus der Drachenbox. Ihr Haar ist einfach der Schweif eines Pferdes vom Streitwagen. Da ich einen Löwenstreitwagen gebaut haben, waren die Pferde über und ich konnte den Schweif nutzen. Yladra nutzt entweder die Lehre der Weißen Magie oder die Lehre des Lichts, da ich aber eher die Weiße als Licht nutze, überwiegt diese.

One of my four high elf mages, named Sarthis the Inflamer. Easy to tell that this one is dedicated to the Lore of Fire. He was built from the remaining parts of the mage on dragon as I decided to let a prince mount the dragon. So his upper body and the staff are from the dragon box and his legs were left over from some archers. The fire bowl to his feet is from the Phoenix Guard box and is normally attached to the banner. As I do not use the Lore of Fire this often, Sarthis is rarely seen on the battlefield.

Einer meiner vier Hochelfenmagier, bekannt als Sarthis der Entflammer. Wie leicht zu erkennen ist, hat er sich der Lehre des Feuers verschrieben. Er wurde aus den übrigen Teilen des Magiers aus der Drachenbox gebaut, als ich mich entschied, lieber einen Prinzen auf den Drachen zu setzen. Also kommen sein Oberkörper und der Stab aus der Drachenbox und die Beine blieben bei den Bogenschützen übrig. Die Feuerschale zu seinen Füßen ist von der Phönixgarde und sitzt normalerweise auf der Spitze des Banners. Da ich die Lehre des Feuers jedoch nicht sehr häufig nutze, sieht man Sarthis ziemlich selten auf dem Schlachtfeld

Following the Skycutter, here is the Lothern Sea Helm that was included in the Skycutter box. For the reasons, I named in the Skycutter post, I built him as an infantry model. At this time, I did not have an army standart bearer, so now I have one. Well, in opposite to the Skycutter, he has no finished base, just the stone he is standing on. As most of the High Elves models released last year, I like this one for a reason I can’t name. They just seem fine to me. (Note to myself: Do the base!)

Nach dem Himmelssegler kommt hier der Seeherr von Lothern, der in der Himmelsseglerbox enthalten war. Aus den Gründen, die ich im Himmelsseglerpost genannt habe, hab ich mich entschieden, ihn als Infanteriemodell zu spielen. Zu dieser Zeit hatte ich noch keinen Armeestandartenträger, doch dank diesem Kerlchen habe ich nun einen. Tja, im Gegensatz zum Himmelssegler hat er leider keine Basegestaltung, nur den Stein, auf dem er steht. Wie vieler der Hochelfenmodelle, die letztes Jahr herausgebracht wurden, mag ich ihn aus Gründen, die ich nicht genau benennen kann. Die Modelle sehen für mich einfach schön aus. (Notiz an mich: Base machen!)

My Lothern Skycutter, in my eyes a beautiful model, although I heard many players lamenting how ugly and unfitiing to the High Elves it would be when it was released. Anyway, I like it, not at last because it is one of my few models that is completely based. I chose the spear thrower to be placed on deck instead of the Lothern Sea Helm. I could not imagine an Elf standing high above the battlefield and striking the enemy with a Spear without falling down. Shooting air support seemed more logically to me. But I liked the Sea Helm’s trident and as I wanted him to bear the flag, I gave the helmsman the trident. It looks much cooler than his normal short spear.

Mein Himmelssegler von Lothern, in meinen Augen ein wunderschönes Modell, obwohl ich viele Spieler gehört habe, die sich darüber mockiert haben, wie hässlich und unpassend für die Hochelfen er doch wäre, als er herauskam. Ich mag ihn trotzdem, nicht zuletzt, weil er eines der wenigen Modelle ist, die fertig gebased sind. Als Option habe ich die Speerschleuder gewählt, da ich mir einfach nicht vorstellen konnte, wie ein Elf weit über dem Schlachtfeld steht und den Feind mit einer Lanze erwischen möchte, ohne runter zu fallen. Schießende Luftunterstützung schien mir da logischer. Aber der Dreizack des Seeherren gefiel mir, und da ich wollte, dass der Seeherr die Standarte trägt, habe ich seinen Dreizack dem Steuermann in die Hand gedrückt. Er sieht einfach viel cooler aus als der normale, kurze Speer.

Something different this time: not a miniature but a model house for my High Elves army. It is basically made of balsa wood from the local hardware store. The basic roof is an old cereal package and the roof tiles are made of cardboard from an old writing pad. The windows and ornaments are cut out with a sharp knife. As you can see, it is not painted yet because I want to make more of them . In fact, this should just be a small tower in a bigger building.

What inspired me the most to build an elven house, was this site: http://gidian-gelaende.de/?p=887  It is nearly three years old but still beautiful. Compared to Wolfgang (the master who built the Elven Port I linked above) I’m a total newbie in architecture. Just click a little through his gallery, I promise, you will be deeply impressed!

Diesmal etwas anderes als eine Miniatur: ein Modellhäuschen für meine Hochelfen. Es besteht hauptsächlich aus Balsaholz aus dem örtlichen Baumarkt. Das Dachgerüst ist aus einer alten Müslischachtel geschnitten und die Dachpfannen sind aus der Pappe, die immer hinter Collegeblöcken ist. Die Fenster und Ornamente habe ich einfach mit einem Cutter ausgeschnitten. Wie man sieht, ist es noch nicht bemalt, das hat den Hintergrund, dass ich mehr davon bauen möchte, tatsächlich sollte dies nur ein kleiner Turm für ein größeres Gebäude sein.

Am meisten hat mich diese Seite hier zum Bau angeregt: http://gidian-gelaende.de/?p=887  Die Seite ist zwar knapp drei Jahre alt und ziemlich inaktiv, aber immer noch wunderschön für Bastler und Beobachter. Verglichen mit Wolfgang (dem Maestro, der den verlinkten Hafen gebaut hat) bin ich im Modellbau blutiger Anfänger. Klickt euch einfach ein bisschen durch seine Galerie, ihr werdet tief beeindruckt sein, versprochen!

A Seaguard I painted for a friend’s birthday as a meeple in a game we made in our clique for him. I had about two hours to finish him, so it’s not one of my best works, but imho I did a good job for not having this much time.

As I am currently not getting any further with my outstanding paintjobs, I made some photos of an older work of mine: the High Elf Prince on Dragon, Talhar of Sunpeak. Of course, this Prince is from Caledor. like almost every Dragonrider. He was born as the third son of a less mighty Lord and brought great honor for his house when he succeeded in waking up one of the very old dragons, Sefnyr, the Blazing Nemesis who once set a whole city of the Druchii on fire.

By the way, I refuse believing in the End Times and the drowning of Ulthuan. For my Elves, the Asur and Druchii are still at war and the End Times plot never happened.

Da ich aktuell mit meinen zu bemalenden Figuren nicht wirlich weiter komme, habe ich ein paar Fotos einer älteren Figur gemacht: dem Hochelfenprinz auf Drachen, Talhar vom Sonnengipfel. Natürlich ist dieser Prinz, wie nahezu jeder Drachenreiter, aus Caledor. Er wurde als dritter Sohn eines kleinen Fürsten geboren und brachte große Ehre für sein Haus, als es ihm gelang, einen der sehr alten Drachen zu wecken, Sefnyr, die lodernde Nemesis, der einst eine ganze Stadt der Druchii in Flammen setzte.

Übrigens weigere ich mich, an die End Times zu glauben und dass Ulthuan versunken sein soll. Meine Elfen befinden sich noch immer im Krieg mit den Druchii und der ganze End Times Plot ist so nie geschehen.

More models from the time I began painting, two units of archers. I haven’t got much to say about these models, I just painted them nearly two and a half year ago and led them sometimes into battle where they never were that successful. Strength 3 is not that mighty against most enemies I have to fight (Warriors of Chaos, enough said) and often they just filled points in the core section because I didn’t have enough spearmen.

Mehr Modelle aus meiner Anfangszeit, zwei Einheiten Bogenschützen. Ich kann nicht viel zu ihnen sagen, außer, dass ich sie vor etwa zweieinhalb Jahren bemalt habe und sie manchmal in die Schlacht geführt habe, wo sie allerdings nie viel gerissen haben. Stärke 3 ist gegen die meisten meiner Gegner (Krieger des Chaos…genug gesagt) nicht allzu mächtig und so haben die Schützen oft nur Punkte im Kern gefüllt, weil ich nicht genug Speerträger hatte.

The last mage, Caladris, is just the normal mage form Island of Blood. He was one of the very first models I painted and I did not give him a special Lore. To be honest, I don’t use him in battles anymore since I have other mages that look better and whose outer appearance fit more to the Lore they represent. Anyway, he is partof my magic arsenal and so I presented him with the other mages.

Der letzte Magier, Caladris, ist der normale Magier aus der Blutinsel. Er war eines der ersten Modelle, die ich bemalt habe und ich habe ihm keine spezielle Lehre zugeordnet. Um ehrlich zu sein, er kommt auch nicht mehr mit in Schlachten, seit ich andere Magier habe, die besser aussehen und deren Äußeres mehr mit ihrer Lehre vereinbar ist. Trotzdem ist er Teil meines magischen Arsenals und ich wollte ihn mit den anderen Magiern präsentieren.

Finished up a block of 40 High Elf Spearmen for a customer. This was a grueling commission - there’s nothing like batch-painting 40 of basically the same model, especially when the color scheme is based around the two colors I weakest at - bright true-metallics and pure white. Still, they turned not at all half-bad, if I do say so myself.
