Honestly, from the narrative standpoint, XXC isn’t an active player in the Grasses arc. It’s somewhat painful to see how in fanart people ignore A-Qing while she’s actually the Protagonist here.
And XY is her foil. They’re competing over who gets XXC. Both lie to the daozhan, or else he’d ditch them both. Both trying at first to out another, to no avail. Both have a separate meeting with SL.
Honestly, A-Qing would turn out a fascinating cultivator, with a gut feeling to stick around XXC, immediate wish to finish XY, and ability to recognise SL as genuine friend at least a friend of XXC despite daozhan Song’s initial impatience.
A-Qing sees through people. What a woman. Daozhans should’ve kept her around, she’s way more accurate than Shuanhua, guiding XXC’s hand.
