For The Godfather Movie X PUMA collaboration, we were asked to present 3 options during our proposal. In a very rare and surprising turn of events, Paramount and PUMA approved all 3, which left us in the very fortunate but also incredibly difficult situation of choosing the final design. In the end we went with Don Corleone’s office as we felt the layout worked better for multiple formats but this option came a close second.

We tried to capture Marlon Brando’s decision to use very deliberate and gentle hand and finger gestures throughout the movie for Don Vito, whilst maintaining the super geometric and chiaroscuro style we had set up for the other options. As a side note, someone asked me recently what I found the most difficult to draw: without a doubt, HANDS.

Puma made me an offer I couldn’t refuse! It was an honour to be asked to create a set of illustrations for Puma’s latest collaboration with The Godfather movie.

We tried to stay as faithful as possible to Gordon Willis’s use of Chiaroscuro lighting and cinematography of shadows, and therefore we plunged half of the illustration into darkness. The world of the Godfather is a world of hard rules and hard consequences and thus we chose to use knife-sharp geometric lines to visually reinforce this idea. ⁣

As well as the Louis trainer pictured, the collaboration also includes t-shirts and hoodies too. Make sure you go and check it out on Puma’s website – otherwise I’ll have to question what I did to deserve such disrespect.⁣

IfQuinn the Fox represents the childhood innocence that I had to compartmentalise in order to survive in London, then Bounty is the darkness that remained. Black as the dead of night and with a disposition to match, my brother often says that Bounty is the cat that I deserved, celestial justice for all the annoying antics I put him through growing up. But no matter how much Bounty chooses to ignore me or how many glasses of water he pushes off the nightstand and onto my head at 3 o’clock in the morning, you just can’t help but love him. To celebrate such an iconic legend, we are going to be releasing a collection of enamel pins inspired by Bounty, entitled “Bounty: A Study in Contempt” very soon. Here’s a sneak peek of one of them.

Our new packaging has arrived! Say hello to our gold foil on matte gold stickers and sustainable custom tissue paper bearing our brand new pattern for 2019, “Palme before the Storm” - Palme being the French word for Paisley (from which the design is inspired) and the storm part refers to the wind and wave patterns that form the abstracted Paisley pattern - you might even be able to see the lighthouses and windmills that we incorporated into the design to reinforce the idea!

It was such an honour to create these illustrations for @puma and Karl Lagerfeld’s first collaboration since Karl’s sad passing earlier this year. The background is based on the Karl Lagerfeld offices in Paris and if you look very carefully, you might even be able to see Choupette in the window, waiting patiently for Karl.

What better way to celebrate the launch of Quinn the Fox’s new website than to release a print series dedicated to starting again.⁣⁣

The series contains 3 prints, “How to Rebuild a Heart”, “How to See with New Eyes” and “How to Open your Ears”. Each print is illustrated as a mechanical drawing and in a typically oddball, Quinn the Fox manner, the prints attempt to explain how certain idioms relating to the heart, eyes and ears came to be.⁣⁣

It was such an honour to work on this special commission for Leah and Mark! Inspired by the phrase, “Strong like bull, fast like fox”, the illustration shows their dogs, Florence and Billy, running through the forest with Quinn the Fox. Thank you so much again for all the love and support and we hope you love your new print!

One of the options we presented to PUMA for their shoe collaboration with Manchester City Football Club. We ultimately went in a different direction but I liked the simplicity and the restraint of this option - a 3 shade colour palette is fairly rare from me!

Here’s an isometric illustration we did as part of a rebrand project for Anywheres, a subscription box for flexible workers.

We didn’t know blue would become Pantone’s Colour of the Year at the time but we chose it as a significant brand colour due to its tendency to be viewed as calming, reassuring, pleasant and relaxing - all important factors for flexible workers dealing with an unpredictable and often stressful work-life balance. Interestingly, our research discovered that blue, when used as a main colour on a website, can create the illusion of increased connection speed due to its ability to induce a state of relaxation in the user.

However, blue is not immune to demographic factors and it can often be seen as cold, corporate, bland and even evil. As such, we chose to temper it with oranges and pinks in order to bring out its evocative, emotionally resonant qualities.

Every year I use the Quinn the Fox Christmas card as an opportunity to test out new ideas but the sentiment behind the illustration is almost always the same: namely to ask you, the viewer, to suppress the cynical tendencies that dominate the other 11 months of the year and to open your eyes to the magic of the season. When you’re an adult, Christmas Spirit is hard work – what was once a raging fire has now diminished into a mere spluttering flame, as the embers of wonderment fade into ashes of crushing reality; the suffocating crowds, the awkward office Christmas parties and more often than not in London, rain. ⠀

This year’s card is inspired by a girl I saw as I was leaving Fortnum and Mason a couple of weeks ago. Entranced by their glittering Christmas window displays, the little girl stopped dead in her tracks in the middle of the rain to admire them. As she gestured to her mother of what she had seen, her mother, with about a dozen bags of Christmas shopping in her arms and probably keen to get out of the pouring rain, nonchalantly acknowledged her with a brief glance and urged her daughter to get a move on. Plagued by practicality that must unfortunately come to us all, she was no longer able to see what her daughter had seen.⠀

Some may say that I’m becoming sentimental in my old age and perhaps it’s true, but for me, the purpose of Quinn the Fox is similar to Jacque Prevert’s lyre bird – a guiding spirit that bestows upon us the key back into the kingdom of childhood wonderment – even if it’s only for a momentary glimpse. I wish you all a very merry Christmas and in the spirit of keeping your eyes open, I’ve hidden my cat Bounty somewhere in this illustration. Can you find him?

Here’s one of my favourite projects this year - illustrating the iconic ROMA shoe for @puma! The original shoe, which debuted in 1968, was created to celebrate Italy’s victory at the Euro Cup in Rome. We chose to subtly reference its history by including the Colosseum in the background, illustrated in a geometric and modernist style reminiscent of the 1960’s.
