okay, here’s another thing. on Whose Line, they do a negative impression of Rain Man, which is bad, because it’s a mockery of autism, but at the same time, Rain Man is a bad representation of autism. obviously that doesn’t mean that either are okay, but i don’t know how to feel about the situation in general.
A show will have an obviously autistic coded character and then in interviews the creators will go “hmmm…never thought about it…maybe they’re on the spectrum….we won’t say they are for sure….” and I’m TIRED of it
idk who needs to hear this but autistic people are nottools to be used so your allistic main character can look like a perfect sibling or saintly parent or patient friend. we are nottragic we are notpitiable we are notbabies we are nota joke we are not‘inspirational’ we are notmonsters we are nota fucking burden
