Some believe that the uncannily huge footprints discovered in the wilderness of North America, particularly concentrated in the Pacific Northwest, are left behind by the Sasquatch (AKA “Bigfoot”). Its origins are thought to have roots in Indigenous folklore but over time, its legend has been bolstered by unsubstantiated stories of sightings by settlers, loggers, and cryptozoological enthusiasts alike.

Yes, and now to one of my favourite podcasts D&D stoy arcs. The wonderful McElroy family have created a wonderful story arc, full of monsters, cryptids and wonderful characters, and I’ve been lucky enough to be able to sketch some of the npc. I adore each and every one of them. More will come.

In fact, it’s called Bigfoot.
In my story, Bigfoot was a secret lab project that escaped the clutches of his evil creators. They designed him to be a weapon capable of decimating cities in a heartbeat. What they didn’t expect was their creation’s ability for love and compassion.
Having Bigfoot be a failed science experiment really helped break out of that hairy seven foot Chewbacca stereotype that’s expected. I was thinkin’ stuff like…Wouldn’t it be cool if he still had lab harnesses stuck on him? Or what if he had a metal mask on? Oh, what if he had one of those lab tags on one of his ears?
I wanted Elwood, the protagonist, to be the embodiment of geeky, boyish charm. He’d be the kind of kid I’d talk to about Star Wars, X-Files, Rambo, time machines, and dinosaurs. The guy is a bit of a loudmouth, and maybe talks too much about the differences between the Jurassic and Cretaceous period, but he’s a loyal friend brimming with imagination.
If I were to cast anyone to voice him, without a doubt it would be Gaten Matarazzo. You know him. Dustin from Stranger Things.
It starts with a simple idea with a bunch of scribbles. A boy, his older brother, and his best friend meet a mystical creature in the woods.
And then it takes a little self reflection. What was it like roaming the woods with a youthful mind overflowing imagination and a heart glowing with wonder? What experiences can I draw from my own boyhood (which feels like many years ago) that can inspire their journey?
And most important of all: What do I want you to feel?
