I really enjoy writing this story, but it’s by far the least popular of my fics since it’s for a smaller ship/less popular character, so if you enjoy it, please let me know in a comment!!

I know that Bungou Stray Dogs WAN! is a series of shorts that’s supposed to be just fun… or nice… or cute (and it is)
Dazai: “If I had to go, I’d like to go out just as beautifully.”
But this scene (from episode 10) made me cry.
Dazai might have said that out of his suicidal nature, or as a joke, or to be poetic but with his expression; he seemed happy and sad in that moment. I know he is happy to be with his friends, the Armed Detective Agency…
But maybe there’s still a part of him that wished he could be with Oda, to share that summer evening with him, watch the fireworks with everyone.
If Oda was still alive, they’d be partners and be on the good side. Saving lives and helping people. And be happy.
Maybe he remembered how Odasaku had to go...As the sun sets in the last moments of Oda’s life, he helped Dazai choose a different path and be on the good side.

And of course my brain automatically headcanons that he probably made shadow doggos with his kids. Bruh i hate it here. This is why we can’t have nice things.
✧ There is never a dull moment when cooking with him. Not only is he good at every single thing you can do in the kitchen, but when music is on, he’ll dance with you and sing, too! Cooking with you are one of the many things he loves to do with you. He feels like he can let go and enjoy that intimate moment with you.
✧ He’s constantly tasting the food you two are making; no matter if it’s just plain sauce, soup, stew, etc. He can’t keep his mouth away from that spoon he’s always using to taste. Even if you scold him for tasting the food after every single spice he adds, he’ll give a quick, “sorry” and taste when you’re not looking. He loves the food you two make together so he can’t be stopped.
✧ Sometimes if he wants some fun, he’ll toss some flour at you when you’re baking together. Especially when he thinks you’re too concentrated on making the cake, he’ll lightly blow some flour in your hair and from that point on, it’s war. Eggs, flour, water and sugar is thrown and your place together becomes a mess. The aftermath is a disaster, but that also means you’ll get to clean together.
✧ It feels like a fun family time when the kids are over and everyone is laughing and smiling together. Cooking with him and the kids is like you with many helpers to make dinner, and when food is made together it tastes better.
✧ He knows you love it when he cooks breakfast shirtless [ngl this hc is really for me hehe] and he knows you love it even more when he’s only in his briefs and an apron. He can hear when you slow your roll, knowing you’re just staring at his bare skin and gulping. He loves teasing you, and he’ll reach over in your direction just so his (muscular, oOF) arm is in front of your face. He can tell you’re just drooling as he can feel your breath fanning over his back.
Oda:In healthy relationships you have to make yourself vulnerable too. Allow someone else to have that sort of power over you.
Dazai:Well, the Slug does.
Oda:Does he?
Dazai:Yes, he’s ruined everything.
Oda:So why don’t you move on then?
Dazai:Because that would ruin everything.
Oda:So what do you want from him?
Dazai:I want to smell his skin. I want to hear the boring stuff he does everyday that he wouldn’t bother telling anyone else about because it’s really that boring. But to me, it would be fascinating because… it’s Chuuya. Because in our bones we understand each other.
Now that I’m thinking, Dazai is usually paired with naive people, who are easily deceived, who seem to protect but need protection for themselves. People who are his opposite in so many ways. Like Atsushi, Oda and yes, even Chuuya.
Although the three are different, they share almost a close relationship with Dazai, perhaps where he is most honest and vulnerable.
The thing is, Dazai is much more intelligent and witty than these characters and yet, he doesn’t surround himself with highly intelligent people. The dearest people to him are naive and pure. They are not capable of the evils that Dazai knows and has faced all his life. Perhaps they were born this way, or they did not have as many disappointments as Dazai. Eventually, as people disappoint you, slowly you will lower your expectations and also lower the image you have of yourself. Thus, Dazai doesn’t see himself worthy, pure, considerate or even enough.
