Access To Parks In Childhood Associated With Better Adult Mental Health

Researchers from Aarhus University in Denmark found that growing up near vegetation is associated with an up to 55 percent lower risk of mental health disorders in adulthood. Kristine Engemann, the biologist who led the study, combined decades of satellite imagery with extensive health and demographic data of the Danish population to investigate the mental health effects of growing up near greenery.

It’s strange to think I once thought this way, and now I barely believe in anything good. But something about knowing I once felt this way, makes me feel that there is hope I can again. And when you have hope, you have everything. en @weheartit.com - http://whrt.it/Xsfmxi

Something for #throwbackthursday: celebrating my birthday when I was still about 5 going 6.
.
My sister Sorene is beside me to my right. My grandma Juanita was still with us. She stands behind my friend Francis, who is behind my sister. My friend Jean stands behind me while another friend, Hyancinth, is on my left. I can no longer recall who were those whose faces got cropped out.
.
Birthdays then were more festive, fun and memorable. And the world, at least from my perspective, was way much simpler.

I know I have to let this go. My mind is telling me to run and never look back. But my heart, oh my heart -it’s badgering my soul to sink deep in the ocean of my cloaked emotions. Words do not narrate my subtle life, but moments do. I exist not in this life. I exist in moments.

I guess it takes a bit of time for very small kids to comprehend other people’s discomfort. I got my comeuppance when my nieces were born and did the same to me - I got kicked in the face by toddlers many many times.

whatsupbeanie:

I recently found a picture of Amanda (I was in a habit of calling dogs human names) and got very sentimental. I know a lot of you have special connections with your current pets and the ones that you grew up with so I felt like it might resonate. I think Amanda taught me a lot about kindness and love as a child. Pets are so good.
