old hollywood recipes: katharine hepburn’s cranberry conserve
you guys probably already knew another kate hepburn recipe was happening.
- 1 quart (1,170 grams) of cranberries
- 2 ½ cups (500 grams) of sugar
- juice and pulp of two oranges
- zest of one orange
- 1 cup (150 grams) of seedless raisins
- ½ cup (65 grams) of chopped nuts
i cannot bring myself to put raisins in this, i’m sorry, kate.
step one: wash and chop cranberries. rinse in a colander to remove seeds.
step two: place in a saucepan and add one cup (250 ml) of cold water, the raisins, and the orange pulp, juice, and zest. cook for fifteen minutes.
step three: add sugar and oil. cook for two minutes. stir in nuts.
step four: pour into moulds or glasses, chill and serve in slices.
kate’s tips: prepare one day before serving.
my thoughts: okay, i had to mess with this recipe just to make it function how it should. the instructions called for oil, but didn’t say how much, so i ended up adding a third cup (80 ml) of oil. i also ended up draining almost all of the water before i served it at christmas dinner because it was very soupy. but after all of that, everyone in my family and extended family loved it and so did i.
my rating:4.5/5
