Disclaimer: I love the LOTR trilogy but this is how I prefer to imagine the elves from the books.
-They’re inhumanly tall. Like, over 7ft.
-If you’re not used to them, then they’re fucking terrifying. Aragorn doesn’t get it.
-Creepily quiet. They are not inclined to fill the silence with unnecessary talk. It makes humans uncomfortable.
-They have Angelina Jolie’s Maleficent cheekbones.
-They’re not telepathic, but you still get the distinct feeling that they’re talking about you.
-By the Lord of the Rings, they are so rare that many believe they do not exist. The elves take advantage of this, and scare the shit out of humans regularly.
-They really like sex. I cannot explain this one, it’s just in their vibe.
-Don’t like being touched by people they don’t know, but if you do know them well, then they have no sense of personal space.
Elrond’s family and deep, dark enchantments are my life blood. People whisper about them.
Witches.
Terrors.
Dark.
Elrond and his children are Melian’s only living descendants. Galadriel learned magic from Melian, and she’s close with her daughter so what are the chances she didn’t teach Celebrían (very slim). And then that daughter, who is raised by Melian’s student, marries Melian’s descendent, and you expect me to believe people don’t talk
Really cool theory, and I’d add: Elwing’s ability to shape-shift into a bird was *believed* to be a gift from Ulmo, but who says he didn’t awaken an ability she already had and just didn’t know how to use? She retained the ability in Valinor iirc, flying to meet Vingilot every sunset. And as part Maiar, Melian’s descendants might well be able to shape-shift…
Oh, I completely agree! I actually went to look at that again after I’d written this and though it seems like Elwing at first was given the ability to turn into a bird as a gift from Ulmo, on Valinor she started to converse more and more with the birds and from there started to be able to shift into a swan again, which doesn’t seem to be Ulmo’s gift again but something she learned to do on her own? as it was a gradual thing she learned, unlike her very fast transformation in the see, so it’s very possible that this is coming from being part Maiar, as Maiar can shape-shift. It would be interesting to explore how far this could go with part-Maiar
100% agree with that. It’d be fascinating to see if Elrond and Elros, and later Elrond’s children, ever showed signs of such a gift… imagine Elrond’s children, while still young, randomly finding they can change into a bird but they have no understanding of what’s happening or why because Elwing is rarely spoken of in their home…

I’m picturing Elladan falling off a tree he was climbing too high and suddenly finding that he’s flying, and it hurts, because there are quills in his skin, but he lands softly, and he doesn’t know if it’s a dream because he’s not asleep but how could it not be a dream
Elrohir running until he can scarcely breathe because when he does, for a moment, for a few moments, his feet are off the ground, and he’s hanging in the air longer than any person should be able to
Arwen deep in the shadow of the forest and she sees her arm from the corner of her eye, but it’s a wing, and she wonders what am I because what sort of person can change their body, and there have been whispers and secrets her whole life
That is awesome! And maybe they all confide in each other about their ‘dreams’ and find that something similar happened to each of them so how can it be something they imagined, and then they go digging for answers…
It would be a hard thing to explain, and I bet Elrond would cry

You know, I tend to think of Elladan, Elrohir, and Arwen as being very cool with Maglor and the idea of Maglor’s relationship with Elrond, but like, maybe they’re not
Maybe it’s more like Elrond’s stance is “he’s old and can’t hurt anyone, he’s my father, it wasn’t all good but I want that relationship,” and E, E, & A also have they’re mom’s family’s (+ a sense of wanting better for Dad) perspective on this and are like, “respectfully, I want him to choke.”
Maybe they don’t want to open their heart and home and lives to Maglor. Maybe they hate him, for what he did, and have the emotional distance to see how evil it was- how the good doesn’t wash that away. Maybe they want to be respectful of Elrond’s wants and needs here, but they just- they just can’t do so gracefully
Maybe Elrond brings Maglor to family dinner in Valinor and Elrohir starts throwing back the wine
[repeated from comments:] Consider that it isn’t only Elrond’s connection to him, either. He’s their grandmother’s cousin, too - who knows what kind of thoughts might have come down from Galadriel and/or Celebrian.
