Today I wanna talk about “The ninth house” by Leigh Bardugo.
Premise: it’s not a YA, it’s the first book of a series and, above all, it is NOT a book for everyone. I mean, there’re explicit scenes of violence (even sexual).
It’s terrific dark fantasy set in the present day in Yale’s university, between ancient secrets societies and macabre rituals.
I’ll not tell you anything more so you can play detective because do not be fooled to understand right away the plot or the main character.

How was your weekend? And, what books are you hoping to read this week?
Happy Monday, Bookworms! Did you have a good weekend? Did you get any reading done? I did not get as much reading done over the weekend as I had hoped, but I did finish *The Kiss of Deception* and am halfway through *Book Lovers*, so that’s something. I am definitely hoping to finish up *Book Lovers* this week, and then maybe start *Book of Night* next. I have a crazy week ahead, but hopefully I can get in some reading time as well. “…A cackleberry is a wondrous thing. Strange, to be sure, but wondrous just the same. They are friends of rot, re-claimers of damp wood and molding stone. Thin tendrils pale as waterlogged fingers push up from carpets of matted leaves and rise from the forest floor. A swelling, a blooming, a beginning. A cackleberry is a rare occurrence. Some liken them to mushrooms, or puffballs, while others think them more similar to flower buds. Either way, they are said to hold the dreams of the forest. This particular cackleberry grew in the shadow of an oak snag. It glowed softly, pulsing to the rhythm of decaying oak roots. Held tight within its shell was a small girl. She had spent a thousand days cloaked in black dirt and cradled by oak roots. She had swum through places beneath the forest floor, friend to the mycelium that threaded the dirt like stars. Then she had been drawn above. Now her world split open. Something wondrous was about to happen.”
This is the story of a girl, who finds herself in an unknown wood. A girl who dares to look for the choice not offered. The story follows Oona as she journeys through the Scraggle Wood looking for a way to fulfill her heart’s desire. It is, of course, a fairy tale, though a bit of an odd one.

I am so excited to say that my painting “The Tale of the Swan Princes” was accepted into Infected by Art Vol. 9! I am so happy to be included alongside so many incredible works of art by artists that are literally my role models. Also, a confession: this is the only fantasy painting that I finished last year, and I finished it just in time for this competition. Covid closed schools and cancelled conventions and threw my work schedule out the window. I felt like I accomplished very little of the work that I’m really passionate about. But here is a bright spot, at the start of a new year, and I’m reminded that even if you’re only moving forward a tiny bit, you’re still moving forward. .

So, quick announcement the ebook version of my debut novel Dear Dragon ison sale from today (31st of March 2022) for about a week! The price is $0,99 in the US and £0,99 in the UK.
It’s the cheapest I’ve put it on sale so far because I want as many people to read it before the second book comes out hopefully in summer.
It’s a YA Fantasy featuring the introduction to a fantasy world I’ve been building since I was sixteen and characters that are, at this point, part of my family.
