Tumblr, I need your help!

My best friend is a disabled veteran, with traumatic brain injuries, seizures, and memory issues. That often means it’s hard for him to maintain an interest because it gets frustrating to always feel like you can’t keep up with anything.

He’s developed a recent interest in Koine Greek, specifically the New Testament Greek but it’s branching off into him trying his best to teach himself syntax and vocabulary in general. I can help with the “What does genitive mean?” but I have zero knowledge of Greek itself.

So I’m reaching out to offer a paid position for a knowledgeable tutor in Koine Greek, who can host regular virtual sessions and will have the patience to repeat lessons as necessary. I know most language learning needs to go A -> AB -> ABC -> ABCD, but the ideal tutor would be willing to go A -> AB -> A -> AB -> ABC as needed by the student.

He has been working SO HARD, listening to children’s songs to remember the alphabet, taking copious notes so he doesn’t lose anything he’s gained, and I would be willing to pay someone just to help him achieve this goal.

It’s more of a scholarly pursuit to understand various Biblical languages rather than some religious quest, but he’s also down for conversations about religion in the abstract as well.

If you can help, or have a lead, please DM me here or email breakaribecca @ gmail dot com.

Other accolades for the firm include:

  • Business Insider’s Top 50 Tech PRs

Other things of particular note:

  • One-to-one reporter communication. This means no mass BCC, no press releases, and no mail merge – ever!
  • 401(k): Small Girls will contributes 3% of your annual salary into your retirement savings fund, whether you contribute for the 2017 year or not. • Healthcare coverage: Small Girls offers multiple plan choices so that Smalls of all lifestyles and stages can choose which is best suited to them. For at least one of these plans, Small Girls contributes 100% of employee health monthly and scales to 80% of contribution, depending on the plan you choose. Huzzah!
  • Summer Fridays, Vacation, Sick Days, and Preventative Care Days, oh my!: Vacation days at Small Girls increase with tenure/position. Sick days are separate, and while still paid time off, do not eat into employee vacation allotment; we’d prefer our team focus on getting better and not sweat one less day of fun in the sun. In addition, Small Girls is proud to be one of the companies that participates in an annual Unsick Day - a national movement to encourage employees to take dedicated time off to tend to self-care and their health stress-free.
  • Data plan contribution, commuter pre-tax compensation, and media networking reimbursement: We’re investing in you doing your job.
  • Happy working environment: Fun & productive workplace, non-competitive (employees are recognized for securing placements for clients outside of their direct domain & helping other hub teams), everyone held accountable for supporting the team.
  • Strong Company Culture: Group Events (bowling! group yoga! themed apparel days! rock climbing excursions!), celebrations (birthdays! accomplishments! holidays!), employees empowered to maintain & institute culture activities (everyone picks up a piece of the SGPR pie at their own interest to put their stake in making this company the best place to be a part of).
  • Manager of your own destiny: Voting on clients, ability to suggest & set new policy/standards for company, skill-sharing to co-learn across teams- from event production to digital strategy to blogger relations.

cutlerish:

Hire Me!

My name is Jeremy Cutler. I’m looking to relocate to New York, where I’m searching for a web application front-end developerjob!

Why Would I Make A Great Addition To Your Development Team?

I am passionate about developing software and web applications for high-level functionality and low-level performance with a strong focus on usability. My professional and personal endeavours are often marked by a great attention to detail that complements cohesive integration of larger scale projects.

I studied Computer Engineering at both the Bachelor’s and Master’s levels and have since been able to leverage a wide variety of skills in both computer software and hardware in my work as a compiler developer at IBM and as a freelance web application designer and developer of a wildly popular open-source multi-platform browser extension, Missing e.

I love opportunities to take advantage of my experience with coding at the lowest levels of computer technology and developing front-end interfaces. My thirst for knowledge and new skills will, no doubt, enable me to make quite a difference wherever my career takes me!

Whether you’re looking for something temporary during the holiday season or a full-time career, it often seems impossible to get your hands on an elusive job. How do other people do it? Luckily for you, we’ve done our research, had our fair share of jobs and figured out some of the best tips for snagging the job of your dreams (well, at least a job).

• Make a specific cover letter. Many people will not use a cover letter at all, and if they use one, it will be canned and generic. Make sure you stand out with a letter that shows you did your research on the company and are very interested in this specific position.

• Call the hiring managers. It’s so easy for us to rely on our computers to do everything digitally, which is why they’ll be impressed by your drive and determination. It also shows them you’re willing to go out of your comfort zone – definitely an important skill.

• Quantify your actions. Yeah, it’s great that you “babysat kids” at your last job, but doesn’t it sound better to say you “engaged and enhanced the learning environment for three children under the age of 6”? Use strong verbs and numbers to really tell what you did.

• Use an appropriate email address. Maybe you’ve been using the same email since middle school; the fact that you still remember the password to that is impressive. However, employers will not be impressed by whatever nickname you chose – just make a new one.

• Send a thank you note. If there are any people who help you move along in the job process, no matter what kind of contribution they made, you should thank them. They went out of their way, and they’ll appreciate it. Bonus points if you write them by hand.

Hiring For Slot Work, With Pay $$

I’m serious…does anyone who knows how to do slots for objects want to do positioning work for me? The packages usually already have the slots there as I use a standard set up clone for all my shelving and such needs, they just need to be position tuned. I hate it so much I am willing to pay someone.

For real. Yes, with real money. As in you did a job and were paid for it. In fact, I’ll pay you up front. How much? We’ll talk that out in private.

Stupid thing to pay for? Not in my opinion. It’s just a part of the process I don’t enjoy and have to spend too much time on. Often there are 10+ slots needed to be positioned per object.

I would of course provide you with the needed packages as well as a guide to where I would like slots positioned, and we can work out payment through Paypal, or me using whatever money receiving method you have in place.

It would be considered an “as needed” and “per item” job. I am flexible to your needs/real life happenings. I wouldn’t consider it on demand so much as “hey, here’s the next package and guide” periodically. If you have time to do it, we move to the payment and what not process. If you don’t? No problem, no obligation. In that same vein though I only ask you respect my time as well because if I wanted to wait two weeks for slots to get done, I’d just do it myself because I do like one slot a day before I want to flip a table. Sounds fair to me at least.

Multiple people can “apply”, it’s not a “grab it before it’s gone” job. If you have the skill to do it and we can meet a payment agreement price, we’re all good.

Anyone who is seriously interested please feel free to message me. You can reach me here with the Ask/Messenger, or on the PBK Discord or Sims Crafters Discord.

Howdy folks! The comic shop I work at, Victory Comics in Falls Church, VA is looking for a new employee!

Since I don’t play that coy shit, the pay is $15 p/h. Sadly, there are no benefits. We are trying to decide on full-time or part-time. A full-time employee will be salaried, a part-time employee will be hourly.

The ideal candidate will have:

-Retail experience (this is HUGE)
-Magic the Gathering experience (both in playing/rules and a wide knowledge of sets. You don’t have to be a judge but it sure doesn’t hurt.)
-Varied knowledge of comics, both modern and classic (Golden/Silver/Bronze Age)
-Varied knowledge of board games, D&D, etc.

Essentially, an all-around geek that has a healthy amount of retail experience is what we’re looking for. Magic and Retail experience are the 2 big things.

Additionally, this probably goes without saying but I’ll do it anyway: if you’re the type that thinks only “certain” people (No girls! No gays!) should be allowed to read/play the things you love? Victory is not the store for you. We are inclusive — unless you’re an asshole.

Interested parties should send their resumes to me at [email protected]. A cover letter is not necessary but if you want to tell me a bit about yourself, feel free. #jobs #comicbooks #magicthegathering #work #hiring #comicsretail #gamingretail #retail #comicsjob #gamingjob #nerdjob #geekjobopenings #geekjob

(Maybe.)

If you want editing experience, want to learn what it’s like behind the scenes in a literary magazine, or just really like words, apply to be a part of the Ash Tree team!

We are looking for one person who can manage social media/outreach, two interns and possibly an editor.

The interns will learn how the lit mag functions, help us expand, and work with all areas of the journal (administrative, outreach, graphics/layout, editing, etc.)

All positions will have the opportunity to read each submission and help make the preliminary and final decisions on whether it should be accepted. All positions are unpaid, unfortunately, but you chose the hours and it is great experience for those interested in the world of writing & editing!

If you are interested, send a short application to our email [email protected] including:
1) a few hundred words about why you want the position/why you would be a good fit for our mag/why you like ash tree & alt lit, etc.
2) a list of any of your previous experience with writing/editing (if you have a applicable resume that would be perfect)(if you don’t have any previous experience, don’t worry about it)
3) 3-5 pieces of your best work- poetry or prose or prose poetry or whatever. Be interesting!
4) A few paragraphs or so about you as a person- tell us about your life, personality, work habits, interests; essentially, why we should chose you!
5) your favorite author(s)/poet(s)!
6) if you are applying for the social media/outreach position, explain why you think you can do the best job & what you can bring to the (metaphorical) table.

We hope to hear from you soon!

Kandu Studios is where kids make stuff together.

We’ve built a powerful operating system that allows kids to have new kinds of conversations and collaborations with each other. We are hiring a full-time Product Designer to lead a data-driven design initiative on a bold mission to empower kids to build and create using technology in an exciting, interactive, and fun mobile environment.

As the Product Designer, you will be responsible for exploring, defining, and executing Kandu’s visual language and experience. It helps if you can think like a kid! You will be expected to break down complex problems into simple, intuitive, and delightful solutions using your full range of product design, interaction design, and visual design skills. You think holistically about your design decisions and thrive in a fast-paced, iterative, and collaborative environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Take broad, conceptual ideas and turn them into something usable, effective, and fun.
  • Develop visual assets for products from doodles to wireframes to pixel-perfect graphics and specs.
  • Design flows and experiences that are simple and intuitive.
  • Partner with PMs, engineers, researchers, and other team members to guide the user experience of a product or feature from conception through launch.
  • Work to extend and expand the visual language of our products.
  • Continually improve design team best practices.
  • Develop and document design standards, style guides, and build design kits to enable the team to design at scale.

About You:

  • You relish the idea of creating a place that gives kids the power to make stuff together and believe kid-centric design isn’t just about bright colors and big buttons.
  • You love digging into the details of visual design and crafting clear interactions while always infusing a bit of personality.
  • Your visual style has a clear point of view and you can’t help but create cool/quirky characters.
  • You think of design in terms of systems and can clearly and effectively articulate your design decisions.
  • You integrate data from research, feedback, and testing into your designs.
  • You have experience building mobile apps and a passion for taking advantage of the unique affordances mobile devices provide.
  • You understand the technical limitations and liberties behind your decisions and have enough chops to communicate your ideas to engineers.
  • You look for opportunities to solve problems in unique and innovative ways.
  • You love making things beautiful, obsess over details, and are excited to polish until your work is pixel-perfect.
  • You are comfortable and flexible in a fast-changing, collaborative, agile environment.

Bonus Points:

  • Experience with 3D, motion, and/or sound design.
  • Prior mobile game design work.
  • Development skills to prototype front-end applications in Unity and/or web.
  • Interest or experience in working on youth-focused products.

If you’re interested in joining the team, please send your résumé and a link to your portfolio to [email protected].
