I thought long and hard about this cast. Everyone is cast based on their talents and what we know their strengths are. My goal for the cast is that there MUST be POC in the cast; they’re playing fairies and we shouldn’t limit beautiful fairies to just white - like almost every fanart I’ve seen. I also wish for the leads to be unknown actors - unknown to western films. We have Yang Yang - one of China’s most coveted handsome actors ever. I wish for Jude to be a new name.

I just realized that I hadn’t posted the extended version of my The Folk of the Air comic on tumblr, so here! This takes place when Jude is coming back from fighting Grima Mog in Holly Black’s book The Queen of Nothing. I love the kind of transition parts in the beginning of the book when tired, bounty hunter Jude just kind of deals with the human world.
I flattered myself that at moments you had feelings for me other than contempt, but even were that true, they would make but a thin gruel beside the feast of your other, greater desires. October Reads Belated Book Photo Challenge #23: Judged by the Cover
I was pretty sure this one would be good, mostly because Holly Black is a fantastic author. I was a little worried that it would fall into the recent human-and-vampire-fall-in-love-TRAGEDY-ENSUES trend in paranormal YA lit, but my fears were unwarranted. Black creates an unusual world of vampires where vampirism is more like a disease than a curse. Her vampires aren’t good or evil, they’re just as changeable as humans. They live in quarantined cities, and televise their lives to the outside world.
The main character, Tana, is a teenager thrown into the vampire world against her will. She manages to survive various shocking ordeals through a combination of raw determination and brains, with a healthy dash of panic thrown in. I ended up loving the book, which has a delightfully ambiguous ending, suitably subdued love story, and fabulous cast of characters.
Who will like this book? lovers of creative vampires, strong teen heroines, gothic settings, and secret identities. Urban gothic fantasy at its finest.
