my dad–also a writer–came to visit, and i mentioned that the best thing to come out of the layoff is that i’m writing again. he asked what i was writing about, and i said what i always do: “oh, just fanfic,” which is code for “let’s not look at this too deeply because i’m basically just making action figures kiss in text form” and “this awkward follow-up question is exactly why i don’t call myself a writer in public.”
he said, “you have to stop doing that.”
“i know, i know,” because it’s even more embarrassing to be embarrassed about writing fanfic, considering how many posts i’ve reblogged in its defense.
but i misunderstood his original question: “fanfic is just the genre. i asked what you’re writing about.”
i did the conversational equivalent of a spinning wheel cursor for at least a minute. i started peeling back the setting and the characters, the fic challenge and the specific episode the story jumps off from, and it was one of those slow-dawning light bulb moments. “i’m writing about loneliness, and who we are in the absence of purpose.”
as, i imagine, are a lot of people right now, who probably also don’t realize they’re writing an existential diary in the guise of getting television characters to fuck.
“that’s what you’re writing. the rest is just how you get there, and how you get it out into the world. was richard iii really about richard the third? would shakespeare have gotten as many people to see it if it wasn’t a story they knew?”
so, my friends: what are you writing about?
Well….. fuck…now that you put it that way….
Plants. A guy who has a lot of trauma in his past and loves plants.
Traumatized young adults who had to grow up too fast in order to carry the weight of the world. Who found comfort in strangers more then they could their own blood. Who are lonely and want to be loved. Who can’t defend themselves but are willing to put their life one the line for strangers…

hello ! i’m back and want to start writing fanfics again :) send some ideas / prompts to my inbox and i will write them asap for u all <3
There is a trend I’ve noticed that smut fics tend to be much more popular than anything else and honestly I just want to have something to look at to remind myself and that writing doesn’t have to have sex to be worth putting out into the community.
Popping out of my sad corner to share this because wow….YESSSS. 10000000000000000% agree.
Yes, I write smut.
Yes, I enjoy reading smut.
But smut is not necessary for fanfic to be good. Nor does smut mean the fanfic is good fanfic.
Some of the best fanfic I have ever read had zero smut, and some of the fanfic I am proudest of writing also had zero smut.
As a fanfic writer, it honestly hurts me that I know I will not do well unless I pack my fic full of smut most of the time. And if you think that’s not true, I can prove it with numbers. Because numbers don’t lie. Time after time I will watch as pieces I love and am proud to share completely flop while my smutty pieces continue to get notes and comments months and months after I have shared them.
So, just think for a moment, if I am a fanfic writer that does both no smut and smutty content, and I struggle with readers not caring unless I put out smut. Then how do you think other writers feel who don’t write smut at all???
We all like what we like, and I respect that, but it’s awful and hurtful to know that a fic that is loaded with smut will automatically do better than one without it almost every time. Yes, there are exceptions, but the majority of fics do better the more smut they have. Regardless of if it has good writing. Or if it’s in character or not. Or if the smut itself is even good. Smut out performs no smut every time and it’s a shame.
SMUT DOES NOT EQUAL QUALITY
Lastly, just a note on this topic. While I know, and I’m sure many others do as well, that numbers don’t matter, our work is still worthy of sharing, blah, blah, blah, etc. At the end of the day, the numbers are nice. The comments are encouraging. The likes and shares and all of the interactionhelps drive us to write more.
So if a writer sees fewer and fewer notes simply because it’s not smutty, it can be incredibly discouraging and hurtful. Which leads to less motivation and desire to write at all.
So, please, support fic even when it doesn’t have smut. I say this not only for myself, but for the many lovely writers that I know choose not to write smut. They are amazing and they deserve just as much love as the smut writers.
Life update post
Hey y'all, I figured i’d give an update on some things since I haven’t in a while. Firstly, this summer I moved which has been bittersweet. I’m further away from my comfort people now, but I’ve met some new people as well which is a good consolation to that. Also the move took off like half the distance from Grey, even though it’s still too far to see each other without a lot of planning beforehand. Hopefully this spring/summer will work out.
Secondly, I’ve really started to figure out that I have more interest in becoming an English teacher than I thought I did. Over time that idea has come up to me but a while back I never really thought much of it, but the desire to pursue that has become stronger over time and i’m genuinely considering working my way towards that come college. Of course those things change, and have changed for me, but I have a lot of reasons for this career path interest and feel like it would sort of suit me, as well. Besides, working in a middle school or high school environment just might help some fruity or questioning kids too, because for me its always been the English teachers that are accepting about LGBTQ+ and such. It always makes me feel good knowing that I’m making others feel good or happy. Being something of a safe space is something I would want. Of course all being a fruity ally teacher isn’t the main point, but you know. In general I like the idea of teaching students a subject that I genuinely enjoy.
Third of all, I plan on posting to Ao3 as well. I have the same name that I do here, Whinkx, and I’ll be posting Welcome Home and any one shots that I write in the future (Like the Grunkle Sleepover one). I’ve been rewriting the beginning of the story because the start of the story is just awful. I have also updated the beginning on the usual site (First four chapters so far) and will continue to do so as more updates come to edit the original fic and publish to the copy on Ao3. There’s nothing different from the Ao3 WH than what’s on the usual site, just that it exists on two platforms so more people may get a chance to see the rabbit hole I’ve engulfed myself in for the past 2 years. I’ve wanted to do this for a while now, and I finally decided to like a month ago.
So this got pretty long but yeah, just some updates. Also if you’ve read this far, and you’re familiar with Ao3’s formatting, would putting art in with the story be a good idea or no? Probably at the end of chapters if anything so it doesn’t get in the way. I don’t know, just a thought.
must i proofread my writing? is it not enough to unleash it on the public, sexy and unedited?

I wasn’t tagged but I got this from @adriannasharp and want to participate! My 5 favorite fics I’ve written in no particular order:
Captive Princess Prince Endymion/Princess Serenity. This one is my baby, my first ever fanfic. I was so out of practice with writing, and I had never written smut before, so this took 3 months to finish. And I was TERRIFIED to publish it because it caters to my own kinks that I had never told anyone. But this is the fic that led me to the Moonlight Legends Discord and all the friends I have in the fandom now, so I’m really proud of myself for writing it and being brave enough to publish it. She’s heavy on the bondage with a surprise ending
The Shepherd and the Moon This is my current WIP and first multi chap. A retelling of Sailor Moon R in which Mamoru’s memories never returned, and 5 years later the Black Moon Clan are relentlessly attacking Earth and the Senshi. It’s an angsty, cute, falling-in-love story, with lots of sex and danger and sexy danger in the future.
What’s Under the Ugly Christmas Sweater Another smutty UsaMamo one shot. I wrote this for the ML discord Secret Santa, and I’m really happy with how it turned out, considering I wrote it on a time crunch. This seems to be the fic of mine that people come back to, and I love that. I’m really proud of the banter between Usagi and Mamoru (it’s pre-reveal), the Tuxedo Mask Christmas Sweater, the characterization, and I think it’s some of my best smut.
Love Me in Chains A MinaKunz smutty one shot. This is one of my very favorites and is the least loved of all my fics lol. Minako and Kunzite roleplay Mina’s kidnapping fantasy I know this fic would get more attention if it was UsaMamo, but it’s so similar to Captive Princess, and I really like MinaKunz in these roles.
A Little Fall of Rain Usagi/Dark Endymion. It was hard to pick a final one, but I’m going to have to go with this one. It’s the darkest piece I’ve written, and one of the darkest I’ve seen in this fandom. Endymion abducts Sailor Moon and tortures her for the whereabouts of the Silver Crystal. I’m really proud of myself for GOING THERE and following my instincts when it came to this fic. There’s physical and sexual torture, as well as deep emotion and connection. I regret nothing. Mind the tags with this one!

My friend: ahhhh, I should have known.
I’ve read all kinds of posts both from writers and readers lamenting about comments on fic. Authors are upset when they don’t get any, readers don’t know what kinds of comments to leave, etc. And it finally clicked in my brain why I think a lot of people don’t bother writing comments.
And this is what it boils down to:
Writers do not want praise.
We just want to talk about our story.I can’t speak for everyone obviously - but I think the majority of writers don’t care so much for the “omg you’re a brilliant writer!!” comments as much as we just want to hear your thoughts on the story. Even if it’s just your thoughts as you’re reading of “oooh x happened! I can’t believe y said this! What’s going to happen now that z has happened?!” We literally just want to talk about what we’ve written like you would with a friend about a tv show. We’re not out here demanding praise like some entitled narcissist.
While praising our writing skills or writing style is appreciated, it doesn’t need to be said on every fic and every chapter that you read. If you regularly comment on someone’s work that’s telling enough that you like our technique. Readers shouldn’t feel pressured to have to praise a writer’s abilities every time they want to comment.
In the grand scheme of things, talking about the fic/chapter is actually more helpful to us writers instead of spewing praise. It’s the same with artwork. As nice as it is that people tell me “wow your art is so pretty!” it’s a LOT more useful to me to get comments like “I love their expressions!” or “the lighting on this is gorgeous!” because then I know WHAT people are liking about it. If no one ever comments on my backgrounds, I now know what to improve. If most people comment on liking the expressions, I now know the strong points of my art and can use it to my advantage to make even better art in the future.
The same goes for fic. If multiple people tell me they liked a certain part of the story I now know that things similar to that are a hit. It’s feedback I can use to improve the story and give my readers more of what they want. Without that I have no idea what they like about the fic.
Talking with a writer about their story also gives them inspiration!! Nothing gets us more in the mood to work on a fic than to have people wanting to talk about it. A lot of times just talking about one of my fics with someone will give me that push to continue working on it. Getting a comment that just says “great chapter” or “you’re a great writer” doesn’t do much to motivate us to continue that particular fic. But if you talk about the story and the characters it gives us motivation to continue working on it, may even give us ideas for future chapters. I would hope that those of you with “comment anxiety” find this approach so much easier than trying to praise the writer every time you read.
So that fic the author hasn’t updated in forever that you’re dying to read? Talk to them about the fic and the elements of the story! It will make the writer want to talk to you about it and will get their mind thinking about it, hopefully inspiring them to continue where they left off. Fics that are left in silence are more likely to be abandoned or even deleted because nothing feels worse than putting your heart into a story to have no one say anything about it.
TLDR; Writers do not want praise, we just want to talk with our readers about the story itself, and these are the kinds of comments that inspire us to keep writing more.

my favorite kind of fanfics are “canon divergence” because it’s always like handing back a reviewed essay with comments like “I enjoyed the strong beginning but here is where you lost me, I’ve made some notes”
If it’s not canon divergent then what’s the point? Seriously lol- I love AUs I think they’re very special- you just take canon and expand it, add too and take away- and honestly that’s such a beautiful thing

So I just saw this movie where this hag turned 24 and it was the most non impressive thing ever.
There’s no movie.

I just turned 24.
I know I said I was gonna do a face reveal, and that comes lower on in the post, just let me blab for a second.
23 was a year full of challenges for me. I gained and lost friends, I got and lost a job, I also gained and lost weight haha. I started the year in a relationship and got my heart broken as well, and I feel like the best thing about this was that it really inspired me to write even more. As toxic as my ex was, he encouraged my writing and, quite frankly, it was one of the only things he ever complemented me on other than my looks or body. I have many fics I’ve written that mirror moments he and I shared that I do plan to release once I feel emotionally ready.
I started this blog as an Alice in Borderland page and progressed to include anime as well (I think a lot of my followers are here for the anime content and that’s totally valid bc I am nothing but a simp for 2D men), and I gotta say that I really love the community I’ve gathered and the people I’ve met.
So what do I have in store for y’all now that I’ve aged?
The Megumi fic I KNOW ALL OF YOU ARE HERE FOR is in development! I have several parts planned out rn, some consisting of just YNs Pov, others with just Megumi’s POV, and as well as parts in the same format as the first 3 parts which contained BOTH their povs. I’m also creating playlists for this fic, since every part of this fic is inspired by the lyrics of the songs the parts are all named after. It’s a work in progress, and I do plan on releasing part 4 within the next couple of days.
The Pretty Girl Toji fic is also in progress, I just lost inspo halfway through it, but I’m back on it again and it’s in its final stages.
For Washing Machine Heart, which is my other Megumi fic, that one is also in progress, it’s just that what I have rn is really long and I’ve been too lazy to edit it and proofread it.
I also have a Gojo series planned involving a witch reader, not a sorcerer/sorceress, a witch folks. I’m world building here and I’ve got dialogue planned that I just know will get y’all quaking.
And besties I have this heart-wrenching Crash Landing on You AU starring Levi Ackerman and I just know y’all are gonna die when I post that.
Will I continue to post for Alice in Borderland?
