LIVE

I dug out this jumper today for a yarn-based job interview and got weirdly nostalgic.

I knit this jumper in my first year of university over the course of a summer far too hot to be using aran weight yarn, and it was my go-to hoodie for most of uni. I packed it away when I moved, wrongly believing that knitted sweaters cling to my chest in the wrong way. Then I abandoned it, too worried that I’d grown out of it.

It’s a bit short in the body, but otherwise it fits perfectly, and the hood is still the most drapey, best-fitting hood on any of my clothes. Not only have I re-found my winter fave, I’ve now got the sweater-bug.

Anyone got any good recommendation for men’s/unisex cabled sweaters? I think the bulk of the cables helps cover my chest.

(Pattern is Lichen from Rowan winter collection… ‘08 maybe? I added the hood, as the original had a shawl collar.)

Yeah, I’m enjoying this ‘art’ thing.

Presenting 'Lies I Tell Myself About Knitting’, eight bald-faced lies I should know better than to believe by now. Low-res version posted above to deter reposts, but higher quality prints are available from my Redbubble here.

Tell me, dear Reader - what’s your biggest knitting lie?

As I appear to have some spare time on my hands, I’ve decided now is probably a good opportunity to get back to designing. Before I do though, I just wanted to do a brief throwback.

I was reminded about this hat earlier this week. I designed it about a decade ago, making it quite possibly the first thing I ever designed, even though I only got around to writing it down last year.

This hat was designed for and named after my mum, Julia. She’s 62 years old and works as a school crossing lady, and is still going into work every day because the kids need her. In Britain our Mothers Day is this Sunday, and I’m not going to be able to see her on that day, or probably in the next month, or potentially even until after her birthday in Summer.

So far, no one else has made this hat. Or at least, if they have, they haven’t posted it to Ravelry.

I don’t really know where I’m going with this, other than I’m kinda homesick and would love it if more of my mum’s namesake were out there. From now until the end of the week, any sales of this pattern are going towards buying my mum chocolate because I love her. And also because when she buys herself chocolate she usually buys high dairy-content despite being dairy intolerant because it’s ‘cheaper’.

Pattern available here.

I don’t believe I have to keep saying this about my hobbies.

Knitting is not a cult. Ravelry is not a cult. There’s no conspiracy, and no shady group of evil knitters trying to ruin your pastime, and calling you out on your bigotry is not the same as trying to indoctrinate you. We’re just trying to get on with our knitting, same as you. If someone calls you out for being a butt and a group of people unfollow you, it’s not because they’re following the wills of their leaders, it’s because they think you’re a butt too. Do better or move on.

This design has been added to my RedBubble, in case you would like to reiterate these sentiments.

If you agree but hate the design, why not consider supporting @gamercrafting ’s #operationsocialjustice instead? A bunch of my favourite dyers are producing exclusive colourways to raise money for worthy charities. It’s, like, the opposite of being a butt.

I know the second pic is cluttered and ugly but I can’t be bothered to clear my desk atm. Anyways I’m madly in love with this beautiful green yarn and making it into a sweater.

I FINISHED THE FUCKING SOCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sock progress… socgress……..

I finally started the heel

I would like to thank my mother in particular for being so insufferable to watch things with that I left her to continue binging s3 of atla on her own.

Halfway to the heel and LOOK at that STITCH DEFENITION,,,,, and it’s so incredibly soft…… merino wool I love uuuuuuuu

I did the entire cuff with only ribbing before realizing that the cables go ALL the way up the sock , but I frogged it and took a short time-out and I’m finally finished with the cuff for real now

I am a simple man of simple pleasures, every couple of rows I stop to spend five minutes gently rubbing my fingers all over my current project because the yarn is super soft and Stimmy™️

Making a watermelon hat for the GF’s sister.

How are the color choices?

Question time.

Is there any functional difference between winding two yarns together in the cake, vs having two separate cakes?

Well.

Decided to start and finish my friends husband’s evergreen agathis hat for the ravellenics.

11.5 hours of knitting later, here we are.

(I love this color.)

Ok everyone.

Opinion time.

There are a lot of incredible shawl patterns out there, snowy owl, treasure island, papillon, etc.

And I’m honestly kind of jealous.

Is there any rule out there that says men can’t wear shawls?

(Ok. Maybe not for me, but still.)

I mean, look at these.

Well.

Have officially burnt myself out with knitting.

Don’t know if it’s my parents demanding speed and perfection from everything.

My mom demanding things for people, or her sheer fucking stupidity about…well… literally everything.

My dad’s attitude about the fact I knit, or his “why make it when you can buy it” remarks to…every single thing I enjoy.(reloading, bullet casting, baking, knitting, etc.)

Or just me being stressed about something I have no reason to be stressed about.

Regardless.

If anyone has tips on working past burnout I’d appreciate it.

Otherwise, I’ll start posting about knitting again when I get back in the groove.

Maybe I’ll post the profiteroles I make in a few weeks. Who knows…

Still have to weave in ends and block(yay. ) But after that my part of the coal “Sword of Gryffindor mitts” is done.

Well. Short of weaving in all 70 ends on this thing.(and adjusting dupe stitch tension)

The watermelon hat is now complete.

Well.

Being treated like a pariah at work.

And being blamed for it at home.

But at least the watermelon hat is coming along nicely.

As chilly times are just around the corner, I’ve decided to put my leftover scraps of yarn to use. The scarf and cap at the top of this photo were knitted with 3 strands of the yarn, because I needed something super warm to survive freezing Russian winters. But this time I want to try knitting with 1 strand (or 2 at most), as it supposed to be an autumn scarf or/and cap. Well, I hope there’s enough yarn for both

Whoop whoop! Another one done!

I’ve been trying to finish one shawl a month. Technically was a day late on this one (finished May 1st) buuuuuttttt we’re gonna count it anyways. Close enough.

Pattern is the Kassiani Shawl by Dee O’Keefe. I absolutely loved it. Simple but lovely. An absolute joy to knit. It’s a good one for lace beginners since you get to try a few common motifs and the pattern is so clearly written. It’s also a nice knit for more advanced lace knitters because you can just zone out and go easily.

The yarn is Moondrake CO’s Soft Shawl MCN in “Orion”. It’s one of my favorite yarns and I already miss squishing it in my stash. Plus! I got to meet the dyer in person last year and she’s a delight. She’s a fellow OK resident, and all her color ways are just so so pretty.

This is such a wild goal!! And this shawl looks amazing the yarn suits the pattern perfectly

Finally I finished (or almost finished ) many of my big and small projects and can afford to enjoy Shetland lace knitting. This is the beginning of my “The Second One” shawl by @apassionforlace ☺️~Lana

Everyone needs a pair of #knitsocks in the winter! Happy Friday my friends!

I spent a beautiful day in Kensington Market today- and I finally got to show off my #folkeshawl , designed by talented @kiyomibee, and published in newest @amirisushop. The centre split and the soft, chunky yarn @katiayarns make for a very cozy shawl!

This project took me 2 years to start, and 12 hours to prepare the yarn #k1s1 #extremknittingyarn , 2 hours to knit, 1 blister on my right hand and 1 thirty-second video to complete! But it was #worthit . I adore this blanket. A true family heirloom! @jacquifink
