ohhhhh The Batman by Matt Reeves. Let me tell you right now that I’ve never really been a batman fan. I always thought he was overrated and… Idk I just never connected with him
I grew up watching The Dark Knight series and I just felt like it took itself a little too serious. It didn’t feel real to me. As previously mentioned, I couldn’t connect with that version of batman. That’s just me of course….
Don’t get me started on Ben Afflecks batman.
As for this new version, I think the reason I liked it more is because of the relationship between Gordon and Bruce. The chemistry between the two truly felt like a detective duo and I’m all here for it. I like that even though Gordon had little to no power, he still did what he could when batman was under fire. The relationship made the movie stand out.
Another aspect I liked was that we were shown batman’s vulnerabilities. From the beginning - from the moment he calls himself vengeance, we are shown that he is his own weakness. His mind against himself. A high moral batman with a morally grey mind. This establishment sets the tone and the arc for his character. this young batman felt more relatable to me. Also, Robert Pattinson can finally rub Edward Cullen off because his performance was *chef’s kiss* on point.
The riddler was also an interesting take. I liked the riddler more when he was playing his games. Not to say I was disappointed to put a face to the name, but it felt a little lackluster for me.
Catwoman. I really liked this portrayal of cat woman. She didn’t feel over sexualized. She was more than a thief and, of course, this depth added to her. I did not really feel convinced of the batman cat woman romance, but maybe its the romantic in me wanting to see more between them.
THE MUSIC!!! Michael Giacchino does it again!!! The main theme is phenomenal. I love how he blends it into ‘Something In The Way’ by Nirvana. That transition made the musician in me fucking squeal. I can’t wait to download this album.
Overall, FANTASTIC movie. I will definitely be watching it again.
