I finished chapter five!!! Honestly I’m living for the progress I’m making.
Also, I guess since it’s the last day of September, I should talk about what I’ll be doing next month. I’m going to shoot for at least 15,000 words in Secret Santa, and I’m also going to try doing one of those short stories every day challenges for October, so we’ll see how that goes.
September Word Count Goal: 10,000

So, chapter four is done and my word count goal has been met! Yay!
Anyway, this chapter had a sleepy cuddlefest, so needless to say it’s cute as hell!
Yeah that’s right, ya’ll get more excerpts of Secret Santa! Thank @ekinsellaauthor (who I love, seriously, she’s great and her WIP is the cutest shit on this planet omg seriously I can’t say that enough!!!) who tagged me!
My words were sweet, deep, and blue.
Sweet
Excerpt from Chapter One
“How the hell could he hurt me, or any of us for that matter? He’s in two of my classes, and is super nice to everyone.” Lyon looked more done than angry.
At this, Derek laughed. “He seduces guys, most of the ones I’ve talked to that have been with him don’t even like guys that way. Maybe he likes you, if you think he’s sweet.”
“Lyon, honey, you’re too good for someone like him,” Valeri said. I felt Gavin nudge my side, so I reached for Lyon.
Deep
Excerpt from Chapter Four
“Hey, so one of my friends works in the food court at the shopping center,” Krystal began. I raised a brow. “And she said that she saw you with Olmond Joy there on Saturday.” I bit the inside of my cheek, thinking of how to respond. “You two aren’t… Like, a thing, right?”
“I was just helping him with an assignment, nothing too deep,” I said. Krystal nodded.
“Well still, I worry you’re too kind for your own good, you and Lyon. Olmond will mess you both up if you get too close to him.”
“We’ll be alright, we’re all adults,” I said with a forced smile. Would she please drop it?
“He knows how to take advantage of people, he makes you think he’s sweet to get in your pants.”
“Krystal, no one is getting in my pants for a long time,” I sighed. “Besides, I’m more a believer that someone is genuine until they prove me wrong.” Krystal’s mouth formed a thin line, but she stayed quiet after that.
Blue
Excerpt from Chapter One
“This if off topic, but my dog is being dumb and you might get a laugh out of this:” I tapped on the attachment he sent me, only to watch a familiar massive ball of black fur to roll back and forth on his back, panting and barking. I started giggling at the video, watching it loop a couple of times before closing it.
“He’s cute! That did make me laugh,” I said.
“Blue never fails to make me laugh either,” he said.
“His name is Blue???”
“Yeah, it confuses people, so I named him Blue,” Olmond explained. “Besides, the name the shelter gave him was dumb. Seriously, who names a dog Leonard? X(“
“I don’t know, but that sounds dumb,” I agreed. After I was sure the Androgel dried down, I sent everyone a text saying I was heading to bed, and plugging in my phone before wrapping myself up in my sheets and closing my eyes, trying to imagine the best way for the Winter Festival to play out for me before I fell asleep.
I’m tagging @sapphicauthor,@squirrel-princess,@dancingdarklingwrites, and @solomonrobert. Your words are sleep, just, and the.

You only die once. Unless you’re Rami.
He’s done that a couple times too many, and the last one really didn’t stick.
Rami has been a vampire for a little more than a year, and things aren’t great. They aren’t really anything. Rami’s existence is solitary. Empty. Unfulfilled. And he can’t be sure why, or how to fix it, because no one has explained to him how to be a vampire. His brief stint at a facility or people–well, former people–like him resulted in Rami biting and nearly killing his caretaker, Sage. His time there, in his memory, is nothing but a stretch of terror, hunger, confusion, and violence.
Then on Halloween, the one night of the year Rami doesn’t have to worry so much about hiding who–well, what–he is, he stumbles into a little shop and there he is. Sage. Who doesn’t remember Rami at all, so everything should be fine. Except Sage is a witch who knows about secret, magical doors to secret, magical raves full of things that go bump in the night and the humans who want to be near them. Sage’s memory isn’t quite as wiped as everyone thought. His free will isnt quite his own. He also isn’t as delicate as he seems. And he’s not interested in staying away from Rami.

On the night of an eclipse, four demigods stand far below the marrow of their cathedral in the dark, marking the points on a compass.
Their gods stand each to their left. Below them, carved into the secret bones of Sacrum, is a diagram. Holy scripts etch into curving, curling twists and circles, angles intersecting and branching out to form something akin to a heart or an eight-spoked wheel made of sacred rituals. The deities stand naked, the still air shuddering around them with power. The floor beneath them begins to grow pale with divinity, and begins to light the chamber.
It is as though a step-well has been inverted, as though a hollowed-out ziggurat or pyramid had been placed here, at the heart of the city and deep below it. The floor is bone—not Palestone, but true bone, thrumming with the remnants of grace. The cistern itself is slick, black obsidian. The light does not illuminate the full height of the ritual chamber, but the shadow of a being can be seen in the shape of formless darkness against empty shadowed air, at the absolute zenith. It sits cross-legged and inverted, and its hands raise up above its head, palms cupped towards the floor below.

(still looking for sensitivity readers for Dawn and Ambrose- I thought I had a few leads, but they haven’t responded, unfortunately)
anyway, to celebrate, here’s a snippet from draft 2!
293 words, no tw/cw.
“Still need some dried lavender?” Grim grunted from outside the door. Eli looked up and wiped his hands on his apron.
“Yes! Should only need two ounces, if you’re willing…” He took the bottle from the orc, tossed a pinch of lavender on the scale. Deemed it good enough, handed the bottle back. As he moved, he caught a glimpse of the Griffin’s Claw past Grim’s shoulder. Quiet as ever, no lights flickering in the second-level flat. “Hey, while you’re here…does Ambrose usually do that?”
“Do what?” Grim pocketed the bottle.
“Hole himself up in his shop,” Eli said. “You see, I might have offended him the other night—”
Grim laughed at that—a barking sound that made Eli jump in surprise. “Valenz, the very idea of a networking night offends him.” They waved a jeweled hand. “The man’s probably just brewing something.”
The way Grim said it didn’t inspire any relief in Eli, and when Ambrose emerged a day later to set up his new window display, Eli saw his instincts had been right.
“Hey.” An elven adventurer by the healing potions nudged his friend and jerked his head over towards the Griffin’s Claw. “You see what that place has got?”
His friend, strapped all over with knives, shrugged. “No.”
“Psychic resistance potions.”
“What level?”
“Eight.”
Eli’s stomach flipped, and the knife friend nearly dropped the vial he was inspecting. “No.”
“Yes.”
“But if we get that cairn cat license—”
“I know, man. Looks like he only has a few bottles left. You wanna head over?”
And off they went, hurrying over to the Griffin’s Claw to ogle over the turquoise potions sparkling in the window.
Eli could feel the red ink in his ledger burning a hole through the shelf.

Chapter 7 Excerpt
“I’ll take the couch tonight. You can take my bed,” I say as I close the door to the spare room and shove a towel down at the bottom, to keep the cold air out.
“Absolutely not. I’ll take the couch.”
I’m pretty tired of fighting him on this shit. It’s my house. I turn to him and drop my palms down onto his shoulders. His eyes go wide.
“Beckett, just take the fucking bed and quit arguing with me.”
He tries glaring at me, but dissolves almost immediately into snorting laughter. “Okay, okay, fine.”
I grab my pillow and settle down. This couch is about a hundred years old and lumpy in odd places. I’m glad Beckett’s not sleeping on it again. Two nights in a row on this thing would be torture.
“You’ll want to leave the door cracked, otherwise it gets pretty cold in there,” I advise.
The firelight is getting dim, but I can still see Beckett lingering in the doorway. He looks inside my room at the bed, then back at me.
Then he says, with a casual shrug, “Just come sleep in here with me.”
