Can we talk about Jim and how easy it was for the entire crew of the Revenge to simply accept Jim as a non binary person and then get on with their lives? Sure at first they had questions but must of those questions were about Jim’s earlier disguise. The questions weren’t about whether Jim is a man or a woman or whether they are more male or more female. Nobody threw a hissy fit over using they/them pronouns in regards to Jim. Nobody asked Jim what their given/dead? name was. Jim said “You know me as Jim so keep knowing me as Jim.” And they all just DID. And that was the end of it. Jim’s story went on to be about something entirely unrelated to their non-binary gender. They’re just they. I can’t remember seeing a non-binary character played with such easy conviction before. I’m blown away. I can relate to Jim in a way I don’t relate to to a lot of non-binary characters because so many times their stories revolve completely around their gender and like that’s not what my life is. I’m not constantly walking around relating every minute of my life to my non-binary gender. Like Jim is just Jim, I’m just Megs. Jim makes me feel SEEN.

THE FINALE IS IN 2 DAYS!

To celebrate the end of season 2 I’ve prepared a special series of illustration with all the main characters and a selection of flowers that represent them! Today it’s Eda turn, with a bouquet of Lilies that represent motherhood, and Raine turn, with a bouquet of purple, white and black pansies, to reflect their non-binary identity!

You can find these design as stickers on my RedBubble too!

Anneke - Argentum in Aqua Fanart / Personal Work

Another character from Finn’s ( @izzetengineer ) ongoing novel, Argentum in Aqua. This is Anneke, the red-eye vampire Priest of Ashkenta.

Anneke is the first red-eye I’ve drawn from AiA - one of the two kinds of vampires in the setting. Archer is a yellow-eye, who are far more common in Sacaan than the red-eyes. The distinction between yellow and red eyes is one you’ll have to read the story to find out more about, but it plays an interesting role in the politics of life in the city-state.

All priests of Ashkenta are considered to have taken on a non binary role in society upon joining the order, due to Ashkenta’s role as goddess of liminal spaces, and transitions, including birth, death and gender transitions. Transition across the binary genders is possible through old magic in the world of AiA, and Ashkenta’s priests are the ones who oversee that ritual. Just as in our world, though, not all trans folks are binary, and plenty of folks identify as non-binary, including Anneke. Being non-binary in one’s personal gender is viewed in a different way from priests who have taken on a non-binary role, but plenty of Ashkenta’s priests are both.

Finn is currently posting the current draft of AiA on a chapter by chapter basis - he updates every two weeks on both his own website ( https://saranadosfiction.com/) and over on his patreon ( https://www.patreon.com/saranadosfiction). Patreon gets the chapters two weeks ahead, and also gets worldbuilding and other setting information.
