But do not let today become the start of complacency. Let today be what starts a fire for years to come to change the world into a better place.

Let’s dedicate all of the energy we used resisting Trump’s bigoted rhetoric and harmful policies to keeping Biden accountable for making decisions that move us forward.

Hello Beloved!
A mix of good and bad LGBTQ+ political news has surfaced.

The Bad News: The week of the attack on the Capitol, Trump rolled back protections in the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) that allows for any social-service provider that receives federal funding to discriminate based on sexual orientation or gender identity. This impacts LGBTQ+ lives in ways from adoption and foster care to HIV and AIDS services. Source.

The Good News: On Day One of his presidency, Joe Biden signed an executive order that ensures that all anti-discrimination laws, from workplace to housing and education, also include sexual orientation and gender identity. This comes after, in June 2020, the Supreme Court ruled that the 1964 Civil Rights Act also protects people based on gender identity and sexual orientation in the workplace. Source.

Change is an uphill battle, but it is coming. Have hope, Beloved

Rachel Levine (she/her), Pennsylvania’s secretary of health, is nominated by President-Elect Joe Bid

Rachel Levine (she/her), Pennsylvania’s secretary of health, is nominated by President-Elect Joe Biden (he/him) to be the assistant secretary of health. This will make Levine the “first openly transgender federal official to be confirmed by the U.S. Senate.”
In 2020, Levine has been handling the coronavirus in her home state of Pennsylvania. Although she has experienced transphobia in previous years, this last year has seen an increase in transphobia as her enforcement of masks and lockdowns angered individuals.

President-Elect Joe Biden (he/him) has chosen Former Mayor Pete Buttigieg (he/him) to be his Secretary of Transportation. With this decision, history has been made as Buttigieg will become the first openly gay/queer person to be in the presidential cabinet.

Hello, Beloved!
President-Elect Joe Biden (he/him) and Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris (she/her) have been hard at work to begin the transition from President Trump. Within that transition, there has been some positive LGBTQ+ news.
Joe Biden has decided to appoint queer folk to his transition team. Some of them include:

Shawn Skelly (she/her): Skelly is a trans person and veteran. She served in the Navy for 20 years. Alongside her military background, Skelly was also appointed by Barack Obama (he/him) for his administration. Under Biden, she will be overseeing the Department of Defense.
Chai Feldman (she/her): Feldman is a lesbian who will be overseeing the Department of Justice. Feldman also served on Obama’s administration. Another notable piece: Feldman helped draft the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Pamela Karlan (she/her): Karlan is a bisexual woman who will also be overseeing the Department of Justice. She is a professor at Stanford Law School, has worked to bring down the Defense of Marriage Act, has successfully worked to clarify Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and was a key player in the Trump Impeachment.
Dave Noble (he/him): Noble is a gay man who will be overseeing NASA and the Office of National Drug Control Policy. Noble was also a part of Obama’s administration and has worked in many different LGBTQ+ leadership roles, specifically those from the ACLU, the National LGBTQ Task Force, and the National Stonewall Democrats.

There is hope, Beloved. Don’t stop fighting for what’s right.

U.S. Rep. Dan Crenshaw physically applauded calls by a former top Trump administration official on Thursday night to impeach President Joe Biden if Republicans regain the majority in November and was even more committed to impeaching Biden’s Homeland Security Secretary.

The Houston Republican said at a meeting in Montgomery County that Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas has deliberately violated the law by not enforcing immigration laws resulting in a historic surge in border crossings.

“I think you can make the same argument for impeaching Biden,” Crenshaw said in an interview.

But Crenshaw was quick to add that politically it’s probably not a good idea because Vice President Kamala Harris would then become president.

While fringes of the Republican Party have been calling for Biden’s impeachment since his first day in office, Crenshaw’s comments show that there is growing acceptance of the idea with other Republicans, even if political hurdles remain.

President Biden on Friday shrugged off Elon Musk’s pessimistic outlook on the economy, wishing the Tesla and SpaceX founder “lots of luck on his trip to the moon.”

Musk reportedly wrote in an email to Tesla executives that he has a “super bad feeling” about the economy and that the company would need to slash 10 percent of its workforce. Biden was asked to respond to Musk’s comments after giving remarks on the May jobs report from Delaware.

The president pointed to new investments in electric vehicles from Ford that will create 6,000 new union jobs, as well as investments from Chrysler in electric vehicles and Intel in developing computer chips at a new factory.

“So, you know, lots of luck on his trip to the moon,” Biden said.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden on Thursday named Karine Jean-Pierre to be the next White House press secretary, the first Black woman and openly LGBTQ person to serve in the role, with incumbent Jen Psaki set to leave the post next week.

Jean-Pierre takes on the role as the White House faces an uphill battle to help Democrats hold onto the House and Senate in this fall’s midterm elections, and as the administration struggles to address Americans’ concerns about soaring inflation and the state of the economy. She also comes into the job as Biden faces a daunting array of foreign policy challenges, including the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine and North Korea’s escalating nuclear testing program. Biden is set to visit South Korea and Japan later this month and Europe in June.
