after the war ends, Obi-Wan desperately wants to quit the Council, but Mace keeps rejecting his resignations

so Obi-Wan decides to take matters into his own hands: if he can’t resign formally, he’s going to get himself kicked off

he starts by showing up to Council meetings intoxicated, and wearing increasingly outrageous (and frequently revealing) clothing

when his own efforts fail to get any reaction out of Mace, he recruits outside assistance

he sends Anakin wearing a fake beard and mustache to attend as him (which has the side benefit of convincing Anakin that he never, ever, wants anything to do with the Council)

Cody attends wearing Obi-Wan’s clothes and lightsaber, but making no other attempt to disguise himself

Quinlan breaks in during a meeting, makes out with Obi-Wan for two minutes straight, then smashes through a window to make his daring escape

Ahsoka does her best Hondo impression and shows up to kidnap Obi-Wan in the middle of a session, with Rex and the Bad Batch (in their normal, full armor) as her dastardly pirate crew

and while certain members of the Council are outraged, Obi-Wan still can’t even get Mace to consider his resignation

of course, Mace isn’t going to tell Obi-Wan that his efforts have backfired: this is the most entertainment Mace has had in YEARS, he’s wasn’t letting Obi-Wan quit before he started this, and now at least half the reason is that he wants to see what Obi-Wan’ll try next

I’m sorry I had to do it

Don’t you love how these Star Wars reference books never give any credit to the comic book writers and artists who came up with this stuff originally?

It’s amazing to me that Dave Filoni gets more credit for something he didn’t make than John Ostrander and Jan Duursema get for one of strongest SW characters with one of the most sophisticated and satisfying storylines of them all.

This unevenness is one of the consequences of the frustrating and silly divide between “legends” and “canon” that I just don’t engage with on this blog. And of course, while I won’t deny that movies > TV shows > games > novels > comics in terms of budget and popularity, I will argue that that order is certainly not the case in terms of originality, imagination, or storytelling quality.

It’s so much fun to imagine this scenario with all of your favorite fanfic AUs.

There is no death, only the force

There’s something very precious about their bond. The way Quinlan teaches Aayla. It’s so wholesome.

I feel like this comic is such a beautiful illustration of the Jedi’s teaching on death.

klingonne:

Thinking about the significance of Quinlan leaving that message hand-etched in a wall, a surface he would have touched with care and purpose. He left a message of hope, yes, but to someone with his gift it would be so much more than that.

Only when the eyes are closed can you truly see the way.

The living force lights up every being and leaves footprints in the sands of the universe. It defies time and space, lighting up past, present and future. This saying tells you to follow the force with such conviction that you walk with eyes closed. From there it will show you the way.

Someone like Quinlan would understand this intimately, because he enacts this belief regularly in connection with the past. His psychometry allows him to close his eyes and feel the echos of past moments. He used this ability to become a master tracker and see the way to whoever he sought. In a very literal sense the force allows him to see beyond sight and find the way. From Quinlan that Jedi wisdom is so beautifully on the nose. But it doesn’t end there.

He would have also understood that the act of etching the message itself would leave an imprint in the force. He would know how it would light up his message like a beacon of life, immortalising a single moment of wistful connection. Even if no one else with his ability ever encountered it, still it would persist. A tracker like Quinlan would be keenly aware of every trace they leave, especially while on the run. He knew he was leaving a marker, a beacon, that went deeper than the etching in the wall.

Quinlan may have never dreamed that Obi-Wan’s path might cross with his again, or that the man would come to run his own hands over that very same wall. But how very fitting it is that - despite being unable to ‘see’ as Quinlan could - this reminder to follow the force beyond the reach of sight combined with the stark relief in recognising its author, would ripple through Obi-Wan with a power not unlike an echo in the force.

(Dark Disciple, by Christie Golden, Chapter 3)

I haven’t stopped thinking about this passage since hearing Quinlan’s name in episode 3 of Obi-Wan Kenobi yesterday. He loves the Jedi, loves his siblings–just earlier in this chapter he thinks about how he has “hundreds of brothers and sisters”–and he takes such joy in seeing them all again, and in meeting the ones he has not yet had the chance to meet, whenever he returns to the Temple from his long stints away on missions.

Now, to think of him helping Force-sensitive children escape the Empire, children who might once have had the chance to simply be “overly solemn Padawans” and “squirmy-puppy younglings” but who now know so much hatred directed at them and so much terror and pain–it breaks my heart. But it fills it, too, to know that Quinlan is alive to do this work, that he’s able to save those he can–his siblings across the galaxy, some who he might know, many who he’s never met before and will likely never see again, with the hope in his heart that one day they can live in peace and joy again. That maybe one day there will once more be a place for over-serious Padawans and excited Younglings.

New contribution to Mustache Cody teacher au. Quinlan is a substitute physics teacher at the school, and although he’s often away, when he comes back he surely makes his presence known LMAO. He would probably be a menace to Obi and a Cody by teasing them a lot, and flirting with Cody to try to get a reaction out of Obi Wan. Poor guys lol. Ty to @sunflowersinheaven for the drawing idea too!

Text free version under the cut lol.

Anakin: Y'know, the Jedi Council treats me like a God.

Quinlan Vos: How?

Anakin: They ignore my existence until they need something from me.
