Q: What’s your least favorite genre to read?
Happy Wednesday, book lovers! Do you have a least favorite genre? Mine is probably horror. I am not a fan of being scared, so I don’t read the genre very often. I do enjoy the not-too-scary types of books, mostly around Halloween time, but if it’s super scary, count me out. Above are a few that I actually enjoy though! Other than that, I will pretty much read anything. What about you guys? Do you have a least favorite genre?

@bookishsteph1 wanted to see my line up for my Season of Horror which I wanted to start in September but I’m already dipping into it.
I’m #currentlyreading Every House is Haunted by @supernoirtural and it’s an anthology. The first story “Aces” won me right over because the brother and sister relationship was so realistic and compelling with a bit of the supernatural layered in. I just loved it!
Later, the story “Cabin D” went from quirky and light in the first few pages, to hauntingly beautiful and emotionally immersive towards the end. I was a little awestruck, honestly. I look forward to reading a few stories every night. (Trying not to devour it too quickly but really savor it and contemplate it all for the final review)
I’m anticipating this stack very much and look forward to taking you all with me on this dark journey. I’ll be adding more as well as I have requested some brand new titles and ARCs and got them! Yay me.

I’m so excited to add this book to my Season of Horror stack! This one was recommended to me by @gowsy33 and I’ve heard good things about it from just about everyone who has read it. It’s an old story, written in 1981. He wrote the screenplays for Beetlejuice and the Nightmare Before Christmas. This story is in the Southern Gothic genre and involves unexplained deaths and a creepy house. YES PLEASE

Bracken MacLeod is a heavy hitter folks. A one-two punch for the KO.

Learn Jacket. Tough book to get through. #circleofbookishfriends
I buddy read Carrion Comfort last year at Christmas with my girls @jobis89 and @ab_reads and if I didn’t have them to pull me through this one, I probably would have quit.
Not only is this book long and a bit sluggish, it’s so heavy and dark. It was hard to look forward to getting snuggled up in bed to read more acts of depraved humanity.
There were a few scenes (Abbie was clearly ahead of me) where the girls were waiting for me to read it because they knew I’d be overwhelmed.
Overall, this book is iconic horror and should be read-just bring your squad to lean on!

After reading 13 Views of Suicide Woods, I’m really excited for his newest release Come to Dust
How cool is it that it looks like Rust from my background has infected the book cover?
This storyline reminds me a little bit of Suffer the Children that I just read with @gowsy33 @book.happy and @bookishmommy about children dying and then rising up from the grave.
We all really enjoyed it. This one has some subtle differences with some religious fanatics and more of a focus on a single family.
Super looking forward to it.

Hey! How long has it been since I mentioned Nick Cutter? A few days? Well then, today is the perfect day to mention him again:
I read The Deep in the Fall of 2016. It kind of blew me away. I posted a review and everyone was praising his book the Troop. So I read that in April of this year. Here’s a real progression of my face while reading it:
And then the @the.nocturnal.readers.box gave me a SIGNED copy of Little Heaven which was like the best birthday gift ever and it is now my favorite read so far of 2017.
I just connect to Cutter’s writing. His descriptions are so vivid and powerful. I’m often just awestruck by what he can do with words. Serious mad props for his skills and ability to write excellent horror.

Let me ask you guys a question: Say you read a book from the Library and you loved it. Do you then buy it? Do you need it for your collection?
So for me, it depends. If it’s an author I don’t collect, I might pass on buying it. But if it’s an author I love and if I know I’ll read it again, I NEED IT!!
Nick Cutter is an instabuy for me. I read this book from the library and I think about it all the time so I know I’ll read it again. I’m just curious how you guys do this book collecting thang!

Well, one of the new books I requested from a publisher I found on Twitter came yesterday! It’s called Beneath by Kristi DeMeester. TOR.com was also boating about this book, the plot really intrigued me: a journalist with a secret past is assigned a cover story about a snake charming cult in the Appalachian mountains. Again with the cults!
Speaking of cults, I read 84 pages in one fell swoop of Gather the Daughters. See a previous post if you want to know more about it but it’s so easy and compelling. I hate putting it down!
