Shipping is such a multilayered thing too.

You can ship characters for happily ever afters, sure, you can ship them for tragically-then-happily, you can ship two or three or four or more, you can ship endless combinations of personality types and relationship dynamics

but you can also ship characters under very specific circumstances, or for a certain period of their life but not for all of it, or only in a certain universe. You might say “I ship these characters” and what you mean is you think they are fascinating together and could have a story together. That story could be any kind of story. 

Sometimes it means you want them together for the rest of their lives. Sometimes it means something different than that.

I don’t know about you, but for me, “I ship it” means “There is a story in this ship and I am interested in that story.”

All these years in fandom, all this time exploring different ships and dynamics, and no ship dynamic will ever give me quite as much joy as “aloof-seeming rival who has the Biggest Soft Spot Ever for the plucky underdog.”

When the underdog works their heart and soul out to get acknowledged by the rival, and meanwhile the rival has been hopelessly crushing on them for two years and is just too damn repressed to do anything about it. Nothing else hits like that. Absolutely nothing.

One of my all-time fave ship dynamics is going from “whatever you say, princess” (derogatory) to “whatever you say, princess” (affectionate)

This was originally meant to be fanart for Would You Marry Me? by TheGirlWithBrightEyes, but I took a few liberties and ended up making it Spring instead of winter

So they’re supposed to be at a shrine together making the engagement official and Akira gets emotional n stuff

I tried my best with Akira’s expression and I think I got it right(?) As long as he looks vulnerable… I just really like the idea of Akira learning to shed his cold exterior for Hikaru *sob*
