This transition touched me differently. Secretly fighting his own personal battle for years while delivering his amazing talents on screen and becoming a beautiful, symbolic black man in power fighting for justice while discovering himself, expanding his culture, and finding his purpose, he became a leader right before our eyes.
Goodness! So much of me wants to believe that he still just fell off the cliff and floated away, but he’s recovering and will return and surprise us all.
Black Girl Magic isn’t just for black women with college degrees, big houses, fancy cars, and/or own businesses. Black Girl Magic implies to all black women and girls. Black women and girls who grew up poor have magic. The ones with high school diplomas have magic. The ones who dropped out of school for whatever reason have magic. Magic shouldn’t be exclusively preserved for the rich and famous. Struggling black women and girls deserve recognition, respect, and love too.
It’s me! You’re thinking of me! You wanted to see me and here I am for you to see. Now, you suddenly remember just how much and why you love me.
There’s the smile! The contagious smile! You see it, especially when you close your eyes and think of all of the times you put it there and you think of when you’ve neglected it and then you remember you miss it and you want it back in your life.
