MAMA LUPINE IS ADOPTED!

“After a year and a half an all of her kittens being adopted, Momma Lupine finally found her forever home. This is an old picture because I didn’t think to take one while she was exploring her new home. She will be an only kitty which she will love. Her new mom stays at home and teaches classical piano. She has a window perch in the bedroom which is heated. She will definitely be one spoiled kitty.” CONGRATULATIONS MAMA LUPINE & REBECCA AND YOUR NEW MOM!

Rousey’s Story! A Special Kitty Finds Forever!

Beautiful black and white girl, shelter name was Rhumba, was picked up from the streets of Rialto in March 2016 and taken to the Devore Animal Shelter. She was originally listed as Rescue Only for Behavior but then quickly changed to Friendly/Adoptable once they saw how sweet she was. Unfortunately, being locked in a kennel stressed Rhumba out to the point that she began attacking her own tail, not playfully but with real anger. The shelter changed her status back to Rescue Only and put her on the list to euthanize.

I had visited Rhumba at the shelter twice while taking videos of the cats and really fell for her. I was already overflowing with foster and personal cats at home, though, so I waited to see who would rescue her. But as the day went on, I realized I would just have to make it work or she would die. Nell, a fellow foster mom, offered to take Rhumba to the vet and get her through the ISO period. Safe at Nell’s house, she completely stopped attacking her tail.

Once she got to my house and my husband and I got to know her better we decided to change her name to Rousey. She proved to be one of the easiest going fosters I’d ever had. As cute and sweet as she is, I never expected to be fostering her for almost 2 years! Rousey attended many adoption events and stayed at the Petsmart adoption center in Santa Ana several times in hopes of finding her forever home. When KD secured another adoption center, this one at the Petco in Santee, I signed Rousey up for a stay in November. And that’s where she found her happily ever after!

One of the Petco employees, Jenn, fell in love with her! Rousey is now named Moo-Moo and is getting all the love and attention that she always wanted and deserved. She is an only kitty but has a couple lizards and hamsters and fish to entertain her when her mom is at work. And when her mom is at home, she gets lots of snuggles!

I am so happy to be a part of the Kitty Devore Rescue team where I get to help wonderful kitties like Rhumba/Rousey/Moo-Moo find their happily ever afters!

KAIAH – ID #A687660 Temperament: FRIENDLY; SENIOR I am a Female Calico & Gray Domestic Shorthair. The shelter staff think I am about 09 years old. I have been at the shelter since December 28, 2017. SAYING GOODBYE TO MICHELLE. AN ANGEL LEFT US.

It is with a deep and incredible sadness that we share the news that one of our longtime members of the KD family, Michelle Profant, passed away last night around 8:45 PM.

Michelle was diagnosed with Stage IV cancer that metastasized into her bones and lungs. At the time she was diagnosed last summer, the doctors had given her 3 to 6 months to live. Despite rounds of chemo treatment and periods where it looked as though the cancer might be minimizing, in the end, the battle was too much for her body to withstand. We knew the end was near when she let us know recently she’d be going into hospice care.

We can’t even put into words how profoundly heartbreaking this news is to us and I know many of you who know and love Michelle as we do, will find this news just as devastating.

Michelle applied to foster with KD and joined our rescue on June 3rd, 2013. In that time she has had a hand in saving countless lives. The kitties she pulled from safety at Devore for Kitty Devore Rescue and KD Rescue partners alone total 311 kitties.Additionally, she has fostered many kitties along the way, too. She’s attended adoption events, helped out other foster parents by picking up their kitties and getting them to the vet when they could not, transported short and long distances…we could go on and on. Michelle is one of the members who has helped make KD the force for good that it has become. She is one of the people we considered to be the heart of this team and we’re sure we’re not alone in that feeling.

In 2014, when Kitty Devore Rescue hit hard times financially and was struggling to meet the needs of the kitties in our care, Michelle, without letting KD administrators or other members know, wrote to Examiner journalist, Sharon Gilbert, to plead KD’s plight. The article Sharon wrote brought in new fosters and donors that enabled us to continue the good fight for the kitties of Devore.

Michelle was known for her amazing sense of humor, her giving spirit, her kindness, her generosity, her willingness to do whatever needed to be done on behalf of the kitties in need without complaint, with a happy heart and with a generosity of time, energy and spirit unlike any other. As a KD member, she never engaged in gossip or badmouthing anyone. She was truly in it for the kitties 100% of the way.

When a kitty didn’t get saved, it was Michelle who always reminded us we needed to do better, try harder, find a little more space by saying at the conclusion of a daily rescue thread, “And nobody came…” This single statement reminded each of us why we were all here - to be there for each kitty at Devore we had committed ourselves to save.

In June, when she became aware her time was limited, she asked KD to care for her kitties and, within a few days, we had secured alternate placements for not only all the fosters she’d still had in her care but also many of her adopted kitties, too. We wanted to be sure Michelle was able to ease her heart and mind, knowing her kitties would all be safe and secure, so she could focus on the battle ahead.

Last night, when her longtime friend and fellow KD member, Michelle Johnson, contacted us to let us know of her passing, the entire KD membership grieved and we will continue to do so because the loss of the force of nature she was is heartbreaking to all of us. However, we know Michelle is now at the Rainbow Bridge, greeting all the kitties and pups who will make that journey and will be assuring each one they are safe and loved.

Rest in peace, Michelle. We love you. We always will. You are and will continue to be so greatly missed by all who knew you.

Michelle leaves behind her husband, Steven Horine, her mother, Gerda Profant, several former Devore kitties that Steven and Michelle opted to keep as well as numerous family members and even more friends who loved her dearly.

Pulling a Cat When She Went Into Labor!!!

If you follow our networking page for the Devore cats: https://www.facebook.com/KittyDevoreRescueNetwork/ you may recognize Antigone. She is a woe begotten, pregnant kitty who found herself not only in the shelter but on the daily euthanasia list.

A rescue partner stepped up for her and we sent our puller. As our puller arrived at the scene Antigone had Anti-Gone into full labor and delivered a kitten on her way to the foster. This was an unusual situation for even an experienced rescuer, but we’re happy to say she has delivered adorable baby #2 and is all set up at her foster’s house. Our rescue head has said “Every pull is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re going to get…” but our network was collectively surprised she decided to go into labor right before the “pull”. Haha.

January kittens!? You bet. It’s sadly always kitten season in socal. Always remember to spay and neuter!!! Join us @ Kittydevorerescue.org to save some kitties in 2018!

Here are the official rescue efforts for Antigone if you’re inclined to help offset costs for a very… unique transport:

Rosellyn’s Plea: I Want To Be Loved

Our foster momma kitty, Rosellyn, is hoping to find her forever home.

Rosellyn was two years old and pregnant when our rescue saved her from the high kill shelter in Devore April 2017. She raised 5 adorable kittens in our home, all since adopted, and she is still waiting for a forever friend to find her and fall in love.

She is a special and sweet companion kitty, who is very playful with a strong hunting instinct, and is super soft. Her calico coat is gorgeous, with her “torbie” markings, aka patched tabby. Plus, she has an inviting white belly. Adding to her beguile are her eyes, slightly different in hue, one gold, and one approaching pumpkin. As you stare into her eyes to decipher the difference, you are sure to fall in love!

This girl gets along well with other friendly kitties, especially males. (We have noticed. ) She doesn’t hide from children visitors and allows their gentle attention. She hasn’t had opportunity to make any dog friends in our house but she is likely to make friends easily with a friendly and gentle pup.

Please find adoption info here and thank you for sharing!

Poppy Update!

Thanks Ian Somerhalder Foundation!

POPPY <3 UPDATE! (Thank You Ian Somerhalder Foundation) My foster girl’s forever momma sent me a text today with this photo and message… <3!!!! Poppy was rescued in February of 2013.

♥️Her original name was Dew. She and her sister, Gibby, were 4 months old at the time of their rescue. They started out with a different foster parent and eventually went to separate foster homes. Dew, renamed Poppy, was taken in by Michelle.

♥️ Poppy developed serious dental issues and stomatitis - uncommon but not unheard of for a kitty so young - that required a full mouth extraction - which was a delicate surgery because extracting all the teeth has a risk of breaking the lower mandible. Dr. Bigelow of Center Veterinary in San Diego did her surgery in February of 2014 and she came through it just fine.

♥️The Ian Somerhalder Foundation issued a grant to help offset the costs of her surgery and also featured her on their website as one of their grant success stories. She was eventually adopted by Casey in October of 2015.

Poppy Update: “Hi Michelle! I hope you are having a good holiday season, I just wanted to share this super cute picture of poppy I got yesterday, and yes they kiss allllll the time, sometimes they wake me up because they’ll be right next to my face in the middle of the night and decide it’s bath time lol.”

Do you think we’ll be adopted in 2018?? Yes or No?

Meet Gene Autry

Meet Gene Autry

Hi y'all! My name’s Gene Autry! Thanks for taking a gander at my adoption profile! I have the fierce looks of a tough guy, but I’m really just a total softy…my foster ma’ calls me Gene Bean. Kitty Devore rescued me and my brother like damsels in distress from Devore Shelter in July, 2017 when we were just 4 months old. Now me and my brother, Roy Rogers, have gotten over our kitty colds and we’re ready to be adopted!

Everyone that meets me and Roy is always surprised by how much we both purr. It’s just in my nature to be happy as a tick on a hound dog, and I purr when I’m happy, so that means I purr all the time! And boy do I like to cuddle! Any time my foster ma’ sits down to relax, I have to go get some love from her. If it were up to me, she’d never sleep so she could always pet me and rub my belly. And if I’m not getting enough attention, I’ll rub my face all over my foster ma and flop down on top of her to make her pay attention to me! Now when I’m not cuddling, I’m usually cavorting with my brother, Roy. We like to rumble and tumble with each other and do things like chase stuffed mice or try to catch the laser light. I get along great with all the other foster kittens and the big cats. The dog is also pretty nice to me, so I’m okay with her too!

I’ve been to see the doctor so I’m all caught up on my vaccinations and they said I don’t have any diseases like FIV or FeLV. I’ve also been neutered and microchipped. So I’m pretty much ready to be adopted at any time! It would just make me sing a happy tune if me and Roy could find a forever home! We’re a bonded pair and must be adopted together. Won’t you consider adopting us today?

Meet Drystan!

Meet Drystan

Hi there! My name is Drystan, and I’m an adorable fluffy orange and white tabby. My foster mom says I feel like a bunny rabbit because my fur is so silky soft, but I’m definitely a cat! I’m not a really big boy, but my paws are pretty big, so I might grow up to be a big, strong cat. I like that- I’ll be able to pin my furry friends down when we wrestle and play!

I get along really well with all of my foster siblings; even the dog as long as she’s nice to me! I’m kind of a shy guy, so sometimes it can take me a little longer to be comfortable in new situations or when meeting new people. But don’t worry! Once I feel comfortable I’m really a sweet kitty. My brother, Murry, helps me feel not so overwhelmed and makes me more comfortable around things I’m a little unsure about! He’s my best friend and we’re a bonded pair so we must be adopted together. I like to play with my brother and chase toy mice or that crazy red laser light! My mission in life is to capture that red light! Even though I’m kind of shy, I like to be where all the action is, just sometimes I don’t want to be in the thick of it. When I’m feeling more social, I like to get pets and to snuggle too…and other times I like to be independent and spend some time relaxing by myself for a little bit.

Murry and I were rescued from Devore Shelter in June, 2017 when we were just 3 months old. Since then, we’ve seen the cat Doctor to be neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated. I also tested negative for FIV/FeLV. I really like my foster mom’s house, but it would be great to find a family that would like to love me and Murry forever and ever. Maybe that will be you!

Meet Lilikoi

Meet Lilikoi (Beautiful Bonded Sisters)

My sister, Ponytail, and I were almost surrendered to Devore Shelter back in June of 2016, but a nice lady from Kitty Devore Rescue intercepted us before we could be admitted. She took us home and we became KD Kitties. We were both 5 months old and, although our future had seemed uncertain, we were happy we were together and had each other.

Last February, we were both adopted. However, our former family worked from home and decided we were too distracting. So they returned us. We were sad but, again, at least we had each other and we knew Kitty Devore Rescue would always be our safety net and would never let anything bad happen to us, and here we are again, hoping for a new home to call our own.

We would very much like to stay together as we love each other so much. My sister is the shyer one of the two of us but warms up to people when she knows she can trust them. I’m her protector and much more adventurous and fearless. If you’d like to adopt my sister and me, please fill out an application for us today!

Meet Baby G

Meet BabyG

BabyG is approximately 6 months old and is a black and white short haired kitty with a very cute face. She was rescued in San Bernadino County along with her mom, Maybelline, and have both been in foster care for the last 5 months living with their human foster mom and dad.

BabyG is very playful with her mom and like most kittens feels very safe in knowing her mommy is always just a few steps away guarding her as well as teaching her the ways of social skills and independence. Although like most youngsters her curiosity is continually growing and while she was once very shy and skittish around humans, she is beginning to grow more comfortable in allowing her foster parents to rub her neck and pet her.

She loves the attention she gets from her foster parents when they play with her and her kitty toys — she may very well enjoy other cats too since she roughhouses with her mom quite a bit. She’s still on the shy side around strangers and children and doesn’t feel comfortable being handled which could be the result of their abandonment and tough beginning living on the streets. However in the few months they’ve been in foster care they’ve grown very content and feel safe in their environment and have adjusted quite well.

BabyG is ready to explore the outside world and start her own adventure with a forever family in a new home. She would be a lively addition to any family and I believe has the temperament to adjust and adapt to any situation.

If you’re interested in adopting her mom, Maybelline, you would have a very well behaved sweet pair of kitties that enjoy each other and play a lot and provide a lot of fun and entertainment.

ADOPTION UPDATE: JEFFERSON aka ATHELSTAN aka CAIRO!

This adorable guy was one of Momma Jinna’s four kittens. Amy R. temp fostered Jinna and her little ones after their first foster parent didn’t work out. She got them all through their initial vetting - although recently we discovered Ramona Humane “missed” neutering one of the brothers, despite Amy having paid for the procedure and having a neuter certificate issued for him! Eventually, the family was taken in as long term foster kitties by Elizabeth E. Jefferson aka Athelstan was adopted in October by a lovely woman named Briana. This morning, she sent along some photos of him. She’s renamed him Cairo. ❤️
