LIVE

you think the forest is a refuge

yet the trees twist up and away into the sky

bending away as if to aviod the touch of disease

this is not a safe place

the things darting through the underbrush

know what you did

and they are not afraid of sickness

in your dreams you are running. full of a heaviness that seems as if the universe rests there. the ache for something no longer there hangs in the air like the rain before a storm. dark clouds gather on the horizon but the sky is silent

bright golden fields stretch on endlessly, a cracked pavement road sprawls out beside you. the buzzing of powerlines above your head a constant companion. this looks familiar, have you gone in a circle? the grass whistles and rubs together. are you really alone? the static rises to behind your eyes and the sky goes dark.

and so the sun sets on the final day

lace and flowers hide the ruin so well

do not unbury the buried

they are there for a reason

prayers might not save you this time

Do you trust your eyes? Something moves in the corner. When was the last time you saw something that wasn’t there? This has happened before. When was the last time you saw something that stirred an old dead feeling inside you? It didn’t used to be like this. Have you seen that before? It moves closer. When was the last time you saw movement that didn’t exist? This time won’t be the same. How much can you trust your eyes? Darkness envelops you. This hasn’t happened before. Do you really trust your eyes to comprehend the thing lurking in the shadows? The flickering light betrays your place, a head snaps up realizing they might not be alone.

and the hills swallowed you whole

i’m sorry i didn’t warn you sooner

may the fog hide you

and carry you saftely to your harbor

am i the one you dream about at night?

how do you see me?

you told me once

and i asked you

how could you make something so beautiful

out of crumbling ash?

in your eyes

i am something i do not recognize

how do you claim to love something so unholy?

one day

you will melt into the arms

of someone who knows you

entirely

as time does

when the world blurs

as consciousness does

when sleep takes hold

when the stars bloom

I will come for you

harbor you

until then speak

speak your woes

and speak your joys

for I will listen to it all

you will never be alone again

the sun shines

I work and work and work

words pouring

sketches drowning me in thoughts

I did not want

the sky goes black

the stars shine

as they did long ago

hands reach out of the darkness

what am I doing here?

the ocean

drops out from underneath

my feet

the sky

opens above me

come home

the void of space whispers

come home

there is a god standing in the street outside
xe looks at you with eyes too sharp
and a mouth too quiet yet whispers all the same
xe points to the forest presenting a choice
the walls of the house close in
follow xem
you will not move from your window
follow xem
you know that divinity only leads to madness

~ Sleep will not come easily. Your dreams will be of glimmering fur, of snapping jaws, of flashes of claws and teeth. You’ll know it’s time when they begin to bleed into your waking life.

~ You may notice that your shoulders or back are starting to ache frequently. Do not be alarmed. Your wings are coming in.

~ Start leaving your window unlocked. And don’t be afraid of intruders - they won’t last long if they decide to climb through your window.

~ You’re going to begin waking up coveredin grass and mud. Start getting used to it. Oh, and don’t be alarmed by the occasional drop or two of blood.
