Currently volunteering a 3hr shift to the Pet Loss Support Hotline at MSU CVM. I am a firm believer that our ‘pets’ are a part of our family and if you are grieving, struggling to cope with their loss, then there should be someone there to help you. Tonight, that might be me!
If you or anyone you know is struggling with the loss of a pet and feels like they need someone to talk to, there are options!

Charlie began to deteriorate a few days ago, and this afternoon he was put to sleep. It was time, and he went very peacefully, in my arms and with his family around him.
I will miss my fat, grumpy, fluffy boy so much. I would have done almost anything to have longer with him, but I couldn’t let him suffer when we knew there was no longer any hope. At least, although he was neglected and badly treated as a kitten, I was able to rescue him and give him nearly eight years of love, security, and happiness.
Thank you so much to everyone who donated money for his care, or sent me well-wishes and kind words. In such a difficult time, the kindness of strangers has meant so much to all of us, and we are beyond grateful.
My little mouse friend Pepito has passed away. He was snuggled in his hammock sack not moving, even when I jostled it around. He was just starting to let me hold him and pat him for long periods of time. ):
truly the most disturbing thing I have posted
The Bad and Sad:
His back looks a little odd there right? Kinda hunched up.
This sweet little stray kitten had severe lordosis with scoliosis, an enlarged heart, murmur, and he was anemic.
This is not compatible with long term life. His heart was being crushed between his spine and his sternum.
We gave him a yummy meal, snuggles, and humanely euthanized.
Ive seen this article shared alot this week.
Often scavengers dont have enough time to do more than the face before it gets washed up on the beach, which is what makes this so common.
I wonder if sea faring cultures or specific professions like pirates or sailors would see this more and represent it more in either their mythology or oral traditions.
The guilt I feel when squishing bugs… unparalleled :(
Well, tomorrow is the day I say goodbye to my last senior cat. Hawthorn’s nasal tumor is blocking most of his ability to breathe through his nose and that was one of my Quality Of Life cutoff points. I could, possibly, keep him going for several more months but cats aren’t meant to breathe through their mouth and his appetite is down again for his normal food.
He is not in any way suffering at this moment. He’s probably not even in much of an appreciable level of discomfort. He’s still actually happy- he harasses me for lap time, leans into my chest so I’ll rub my chin on his head, and would spend hours in my arms drooling on me if I let him.
And that’s why this is the correct time to let him go.

Thought of a different final line, so I’m sharing again. I think it better gets my point across.
