My black salt recipe

So basically, I got tired of buying black salt from witchy shops near me and decided to get off my lazy ass and make some, here’s what I did;

Get out your mortar and pestle, or whatever you want to use to grind up your items, you’ll need;

  • Sea salt
  • Himalayan salt (I prefer the course salt)
  • Black pepper
  • Sage
  • Charcoal
  • Incense ashes from patchouli & nag champa for protection and cleansing
  • Bay leaf

I start with mixing my basic salt based together, along with sage, black pepper, and the ashes,I then add my charcoal and grind up everything together and mix it, you then draw a protection or banishing symbol on a bay leaf, burn the bay leaf after meditating with it for however long you feel is appropriate, mix the leaf ashes into the salt and stir clockwise while putting your intent of protection into the salt mixture.

Pour your mixture into a jar, or any container you want to use. I use a mini jar to keep in my bag when I’m out and then i store the rest in a larger jar.

stargvsm:

Black Salt is used for cursing, protection, banishing, cleansing, breaking spells or hexes, and repelling negative energy. Black salt is made by combining either activated charcoal or ashes from burned herbs or incense with sea salt.

Using activated charcoal will actually make your salt a dark black color, whereas using ashes will turn it into a lighter grey color.

Depending on what you plan to use black salt for, you can add different types of ash or other ingredients that correspond with your intent.

Ashes from various herbs and incenses for black salt:

  • Basil - banishing, protection, spell-breaking
  • Cedarwood - cleansing, protection
  • Cypress -protection
  • Dragon’s blood - cleansing, protection, cursing, banishing
  • Frankincense - cleansing, protection, spell-breaking
  • Mullein - protection (especially for acts of magick involving spirit work)
  • Rosemary - cleansing, banishing
  • Rue - banishing, cursing, protection, spell-breaking
  • Sage - cleansing, protection, banishing
  • Sandalwood - cleansing, protection
  • Thyme - cleansing, banishing
  • Tobacco - banishing, cursing
  • Valerian - protection
  • Wormwood - cursing, protection, spell-breaking

Other ingredients you can add to black salt:

  • Black pepper - cleansing, banishing, cursing, protection
  • Cayenne pepper - banishing, cursing, protection
  • Chili powder - banishing, cursing, spell-breaking
  • Garlic salt - banishing, cleansing, spell-breaking
  • Iron shavings (like from the bottom of your cauldron or a cast-iron pot or pan) - protection
  • Nutmeg - protection, spell-breaking
  • Onion salt - banishing, spell-breaking

Making black salt:

  • Combine the ingredients and grind together using a mortar and pestle, coffee grinder, or herb grinder

Using black salt:

  • Add to spell jars or sachets
  • Sprinkle in areas around your home to create a barrier
  • Create a circle of protection before performing spells
  • Keep a container of black salt under your bed or pillow to prevent nightmares or bad dreams
  • Add to a jar to create a Negativity Trap
  • If using skin-safe components and ingredients, make a facial scrub or mask for cleansing
  • Anoint objects with black salt
  • Add to a container of War Water (especially if your black salt contains iron shavings)
  • Sprinkle a small amount on a neighbor’s lawn to make them want to move
  • Add some to a hollow pendant and wear to deflect negativity
  • Sprinkle on items that hold bad or negative memories to cleanse them
  • Add a line of black salt in front of doorways and windows to keep out negative energy and spirits or entities
  • Add a pinch to homemade floor washes for cleansing
  • Use to symbolize the waning, new, and dark moon; or Saturn and Pluto

Easy black salt recipe

All you need to do, is mix ashes from your incense, charcoal powder, or burned herbs with salt, and there you have it! Black salt!

Black salt has many magical uses. The most notable being, protection. You can place in doorways, windows, or anywhere that needs extra protection. It can also be carried on your person in a vial or jar.

Protection/Warding Black Salt

image

Not to be confused with volcanic salt/Himalayan black salt/kala namak. Black salt has strong protective properties, especially when combined with other protective/uncrossing herbs (herbs meant to undo a curse or hex). It’s used to absorb negative energy, create wards, and undo curses. It’s also good for banishing and binding. Here’s my recipe:

What you’ll need

  • Cleansing items, such as smoke, bells, spray, whichever you personally use.
  • Sea Salt
  • Charcoal Disk (or charcoal powder)
  • Black Candle
  • Rosemary
  • Garlic Powder
  • Chili Powder
  • Crushed Red Pepper Flakes
  • Paprika
  • Black Pepper
  • Black Candle
  • Bowl
  • Mortar & Pestle
  • Black stones/crystals
  • Any additional protective items you may have. (Here I gathered dried red peppers, dried chili peppers, lemon, sage, and ashed from a Litha bonfire.) These items are for You to draw some extra energy from, and won’t be directly added to the salt.
  • Frankincense and/or Dragon’s Blood incense.

Instructions:

  • First, cleanse your space using whatever best works for you.
  • After cleansing, start your frankincense and/or dragon’s blood incense, this will be going for the duration of the spell.
  • Light your black candle.
  • Gather your supplies as seen in the picture.
  • As always, make sure your intention is strong, and continuously draw from it. Return to your intent no matter how often your mind wanders (which it will, that’s ok).
  • In a bowl, mix the salt with the herbs first.
  • Remember your other protective items are there for you to use. If needed, refocus on their protective energies and draw from that.
  • Use a mortar and pestle to crush the charcoal disk separately. This takes a lot of physical energy, and it is very messy. If you prefer to use charcoal powder, that’s ok, though charcoal disks will be cheaper. I like charcoal disks because I feel more energetically involved in/connected to the process.
  • Mixing counterclockwise, mix the very finely crushed charcoal into the salt. Mix. Use as many charcoal disks needed to get to the level of darkness you want.
  • Mind wandering? Remember your intent! Refocus!
  • When you’re done, transfer the black salt into a jar and set the crystals around it in a circle. Let it continue to build and charge this way, until you feel it is ready. If you’re not sure, it can also be until the candle or incense goes out.

Done! Sprinkle this around the parameter of your wards, such as along doorways and windows. It can also be used during unhexing/curse breaking spells, general protection spells, banishing, and binding.

This is NOT FOR CONSUMPTION.

Even if you used edible activated charcoal, know that 1. charcoal interacts with many medications by basically absorbing them and rendering them useless, including birth control, diabetes medications, cancer drugs, and more. and 2. I’m not sure this would taste great?

themori-witch:

BLACK SALT (also known as WITCH’S SALT) is used primarily for protection, banishing, and repelling.

Those uses aren’t exclusive—it has also been known to feature in baneful magics, and can be used in uncrossing rituals.

WAYS TO UTILISE BLACK SALT

  1. To protect your property from negative spirits, people with ill-intent, unwanted visitors, and negative energy: sprinkle black salt around the perimeter of your property.
  2. To both banish any residual icky energy that a person may have left in your home, and prevent them from returning:sprinkle black salt on the front step and sweep it away. If you’re feeling more traditional (and brave!) you can throw black salt at the back of someone that is leaving your home also.
  3. To prevent nightmares:use in a sachet and keep beneath your pillow.
  4. To repel negativity, unwanted visitors, and rumours/gossip:sprinkle generously across windowsills and doorways.
  5. To cleanse your home and keep nasties from entering: add black salt to a floor wash and go ham on your floor. Focus especially on high traffic areas.
  6. To undo a curse, hex, or other form of malignant magic that has been cast upon you:use in an uncrossing oil or powder. Learn more about uncrossing [here].
  7. To alleviate any negative thoughts and feelings that you are carrying: add a pinch of black salt to your bath, or to an oil with a similar purpose that you anoint yourself with.

Black Salt

Today we will be discussing black salt, mainly focusing on the positive aspect many might not know or think about. Black salt is seen as being only for cursing, and to cause chaos. While It can be used for such a purpose there are other things that Black salt can be used for.

Protection:

Black salt can be used as a powerful protection tool, it is known to absorb negative energies and curses, pulling them into itself and will rid you and your space of harmful influences. Sprinkling some around doorways, and windows will aid in making sure no negative energies and powers will get inside. You can also carry some around in a vial, doing so will protect you from negative energies and curses while you travel, while rubbing some on your skin will break the influence of Black magic upon you.

Reflective:

Not only can Black salt absorb and nullify negative energies it can also be used to send it back to where it came from. Rubbing salt in doorways, windows, and on the corners of your bed, while performing your own banishing spell will aid in sending any negativity or curses back to where they came.

Potency:

Black salt can be used to increase the potency of dark spells especially those meant for driving people from places. I say this piece because of the aspect of banishing negative, bad, or toxic people from one’s life. Black salt can help aid in keeping these dangerous people away, and fuels the protective side of this mineral.

Spiritual:

Black salt can also greatly aid trance work by strengthening its power, but as it strengthens it also protect your body from negative spirits and keeps your body safe from harm while you are away. Sprinkling Black salt over the ground can purify it before any ritual or Sabbat work.

So while Black salt can be used for cursing, healing and can be used negatively, there are also many benefits and positive aspects to Black salt that could be used in our daily lives.

• add 6 pinches one pinch at a time of acorn powder, working clockwise

• add 3 pinches each; one pinch at a time of black salt and then cayenne pepper, all counter clockwise

• place your paper face down with your writing touching the cayenne pepper

• place your resin on top of the paper

• sprinkle over your crushed rose petal in an even layer across the resin, then toss a pinch of sage sugar on top followed by a pinch of black pepper or a crack of freshly ground

• light a bay leaf and place on top gently and carefully, manifest all the energy you can into banishing your negative thoughts along with the negative energy they bring you. you’re freed of racing thoughts, incessant worry, needless pain, and self doubt or deprecation.

Black salt is a lot like anchovies: flavorful, funky, and the source of umami flavor. It is also, to many, an acquired taste.

Known as kala namak (काला नमक) in Hindi and a number of other Indian languages, black salt is a naturally occurring Himalayan rock salt with a high sulfur content giving it its signature pungent, rotten egg aroma. It is the signature ingredient in chaat masala (चाट मसाला) used to enhance Indian snack foods and it also perks up thirst-quenching drinks like our jal-jeera(जलजीरा), a sort of Indian lemonade. In Ayurvedic medicine black salt is used to treat digestive problems.

Black salt is either sold as small dark brown-purple chunks or crushed; powdered black salt appears pinkish-brown. It should not be confused with black lava salt (also known as black volcanic salt) which is sea salt blended with activated charcoal.
