LIVE

If you plan on reading, these might be -mild- spoilers? Not for the big mystery of the book, though. I wouldn’t do that to y’all.

BUT–

OKAY SO IS THERE ANYONE IN THIS BOOK WHO ISN’T A COMPLETE JERK X’D

Like.

So freaking the main character, Tessa, she has the ability to change her appearance to any person regardless of size/race/age/gender. Anybody. And she has a thing for this dude named Alec.

Problem? Alec is dating a girl named Kate. The narrative presents -this- as a problem on the grounds that Kate is just a total rhymes-with-witch….The thing is….that doesn’t freaking matter?? Alec is taken? End of discussion??

But Alec is clearly into Tessa. So freaking he’s emotionally cheating all. the. time.
Tessa’s best friend is like ‘hey so, disguise yourself as Kate so you can go kiss up on Alec’.

WTF?? HOW ABOUT NOOOOO??

But then to my surprise Tessa thinks it’s a good idea? Again, on the grounds that Kate is just ~so~ awful. I mean she’s done such terrible things like….

…. …. .. insult Tessa’s fashion choices. What a biznatch right?

So anyway. Tessa is going to go through with it and I’m cringing so hard. Because not only did she NOT say no, she is now actively going to do it and I’m like ‘please at least turn back around and be like ‘what am i doing I can’t do this’’.

N O P E

So then Tessa is up in his room, gets nervous because he’s questioning her because she (as Kate) isn’t acting normal. Then she shifts out of the form and -that’s- what stops her from tricking him into kissing her.

On what grounds is this supposed to be remotely okay? What if the story was being told from Alec’s POV? Then it’d be creepy!
It’d be creepy right?

Am I crazy?

Very controlled, put-together, cold characters losing it™️ is one of thee sexiest things in fiction

Cardan singing ‘Hey, Jude’ horribly when his lover is sad just to cheer her up is giving me all the feels.

randombookthoughtss:

I absolutely hate it when character a is clearly in love with and willing to kill for character b, but character b is like, nah he doesn’t love me. Like bitch, yes he does! How can you be so stupid?!

And what’s worse is when character a is like I don’t deserve character b’s love. When they’re like my past sins make me unworthy. Haha. No. She’s been talking about your abs, the curve of your jaw, and the glint in your eye for the last 300 pages. You really think she cares about your tragic past?

The only difference between teen fiction and adult fiction is the age of of the characters and how much sex they have. Prove me wrong.

I don’t understand why it’s so hard for authors to write a boy best friend character who’s only that. Why does he always have to end up falling for the main girl?

If you’re my friend and I haven’t asked “which acotar scene are you in” are you really my friend?

godzilla-reads:

You may be wondering: wow, Godzilla, is Watership Down really your favorite book?

Easy answer: yes.

Complicated answer: my favorite book always fluctuates on the period of life I’m in or what I’m reading at the moment and how it entertains or affects me.

Watership Down has had a place in my life ever since I was 13. I read it consistently. Once I finish it, I wait a few months to a year, and then I start the adventure all over again.

Also, I’m crazy about this book. I’ve read the book. I own the original movie. I collect different editions of the book. I may sound crazy, but I even have an El-ahrairah tattoo on my arm. That’s how much I love this book and how meaningful it is to me as a person. P.S. my rabbit is named after the main character, Hazel.

I have never been good with change. In the last 5 years, a lot of change has happened and in the next 5 years even more change will occur.

Watership Down has been my rock and steady companion. No matter what changes, I find comfort in a story that doesn’t change. Like Richard Adams said when asked if his book had any special meaning or allegory, “It’s just a story I told my kids.” (I’m paraphrasing here)

Wednesday, 27th October

the death of beauty as we know it

“Cracking open a ginger ale in the harsh cold of October with brown rimmed glasses sliding down my nose bridge ever so often, I tried to find warmth in the layers of my coat. To a random passer-by I certainly looked mad as I gathered up small, yellow leaves to mark the quotes in my book-but I’d like to think that the characters adorning those pages would have been infatuated by me.                  Franz Gordon’s “The French Library” was blasting through my ears, and yet it was unsuccessful when it came to taming down the noise of the outside world. Cars were racing left and right, their engines roaring and klaxons honking repeatedly. In some ways the noise had been appropriate, it matched Richard’s state of mind whilst he was in Plano. Oh, but the headlights were horrific, they made my eyes hurt terribly, and even words blurred up from time to time.            The ginger ale wasn’t sitting right with me, more so, it was actually making me sick; yet, I continued to drink it. Was that a form of self-torture as well? Probably, I didn’t care that much.                                    I was so absorbed in the book, that finally, the world had turned silent. Recently, I had learnt that there is no stillness in big cities. There is no time for rest, silence and peace. The world of men appears too never be silent. Even the nights are noisy. I had craved silence and solitude for so long and rereading “The Secret History” has finally brought them to me.”                                                                  -an excerpt from my journal entry

Fave tropes

yeah yeah I love enemies- to- lovers

but the trope where one of them thinks they are a unloveable monster bc of the monstrous things they have done and the other person hates them for being the monster and being the worst person in the world.

but after awhile they’re seeing the real person behind the monster slowly falling for them, accepting them and their monstrous past but not wanting to and making it difficult because they are ‘bad’ and they cant fall for someone who has done all these bad thing but still falling.

and the 'monster’ also falling for the other person but not wanting to because the other person is the best thing in the world and they don’t wanna fuck them up with his monster shit and not deserving them because they are 'bad’ but being absolutely in love with them and wanting to be better and try to be better to give them the fucking world??

YEAH I GO ABSOLUTELY MENTAL FOR THAT

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid

Read it in 2 days

I’m reading all the reviews on Goodreads (all 5 stars or 4) and I’m sitting here like…meh

It was good, and I did finish it quite fast but it didn’t stir me like it did to the 100 thousand other people that read it.

something is wrong with me…

Have you read it? what do you think about it?

ok, i have stopped the tears, and i think i am now somewhat conherent enough to make a post about my thoughts on clockwork princess

spoilers under the cut

  • first off i am IN LOVE with this book. like, this book was all i could’ve ever wanted.
  • like not even two chapters in and someone’s a giant worm! LIGHTWORM!!!!!!!
  • god, i thought i was in control of my emotions but apparently not, because i can’t think of what i wanted to say!
  • oh. ithuriel being trapped in tessa’s necklace was not something i saw coming (also, man ithuriel’s luck sucks because he goes from being trapped in a necklace, to being trapped by valentine)
  • tessa changing into ithuriel was INCREDIBLE
  • charlotte and henry! cecily and gabriel! SOPHIE AND GIDEON!!!!!
  • SOPHIE ASCENDING OH MY GOD SO PERFECT
  • jessamine’s death and her asking will to take care of the baby jessie doll was heartbreaking, and then she comes back as the ghost at the end, and wow, my heart broke again.
  • also, i was totally thinking brother zacharias would be will when i was reading city of heavenly fire, but it was JEM AND I WAS CRYING THIS BOOK IS SO PERFECT YOU GUYS.
  • but just more importantly than everything ever, the resolution of the “love triangle” was the greatest ever. the fact that all three accepted that tessa loved will and she also loved jem, and always would, and that loving one didn’t diminish her love for the other in any way oh my god, cassandra clare is killing me softly.
  • but nothing gets me more than the epilogue where tessa and jem meet on the bridge and i thought i had got the tears under control, but no i’m crying again just thinking about it. but that was everything i wanted and i’m so, so, SO FREAKING OVERJOYED by the way this series ended.
  • also, i think this might be my favorite romance of all time. because tessa lived a long, happy life with will and their children and grandchildren, and then all those years later she got to be reunited with jem, and now she gets to spend a lifetime with him, and it’s just so perfect because being happy with jem doesn’t in any way mean she loved/loves will any less and i am so so happy you guys.
  • basically just wow wow WOW this book is flawless.
  • i meant to be more coherent and stuff, but emotions got in the way, sorry.

i have never in my entire life been as fully and utterly satisfied with the end of a series as i am with the way clockwork princess ended. there is honestly nothing i would change about the ending.

Rainbow Stack

Mondays can be a little gloomy so let’s add some color to today!

Tagging a few people to join in, but no pressure

Have you read any of the books in this stack?

I’ve actually read all of them except Chain of Gold (this year….it will happen.)

Happy Monday

“The boy clung tightly to his sister’s hand when they fled the palace, afraid that if he let go he might lose her forever.”

”There’s blood on my hands, blood between my toes, blood speckled in my hair.”

Do you ever read multiple books at once?

I do on occasion. Like right now I’m in the midst of these four amazing reads.

Crescent City I’m enjoying as a group read.

Ship of Theseus/S is my focus read aka I have to be in the mood and ready to really pay attention.

Among Thieves is my current daytime audiobook

Six of Crows is my bedtime audiobook

Sometimes I just can’t stick to one ‍♀️

Happy Tuesday bookstafam!!

What are you reading??

”Up until yesterday, I, Georgie Carruthers, never believed in aliens.”

And I, Miranda, didn’t think I’d like this book.

Spoiler alert, both me and Georgie were wrong

IPB was a fun, quick read and I quite enjoyed it! There was a lot of convenient plot progression, but it worked. And the smut was top notch.

Will I probably be reading the rest of the books? Probably. But for now, on to Crescent City!

Do you believe in aliens?

There’s probably more life out there…but I don’t think they’d bother with us.

The hardest part of this job isn’t the stealing.”

More thieves. I am a happy clam. I love me some good roguish characters! I can not wait to get to this book!

If you had to pick one color for your bookshelf, what would it be?

Black and gold for me. But I love my rainbow shelves so I’m glad that’s not happening

September’s new moon waited for the sun to set, and I found myself trapped in Mazarine’s library, drawing her twelfth portrait by candlelight.”

Ok, this line gives me major romance vibes. A new moon? Candlelight? But then…the use of trapped makes me think it’s definitely a reluctant or undiscovered romance story.

Either way, can we agree this cover is beautiful?

Silver or Gold armor?

Silver. Silver is my fav. But….gold armor wouldn’t be terrible. Just have to channel your inner Aelin right?

Mud squelched between her toes as Larkin shoved the hoe into the ground, lifted a sodden lump of earth and dropped seeds from her belt into the hole.”

Now don’t get me wrong, mud is delightful, but this first line definitely sets a tone of unhappiness and gloom for me. Like someone who is looking for more than a farmers life and ends up on a crazy adventure!

Do you think you could live on a farm?

I could maybe. It would probably be a nice change of pace. And think of all the baby animals!

And horses. I miss horses.

There were guards nearby.”

A first sentence like that you just know is going to dump you right in the middle of some fun.

Thief or Assassin?

Obviously thief is the easier way to go…but you could probably make so much money as an assassin that if I was in a place like Aderlan, assassin might be the way to go!

“Certain people have said that the world is like a calm pond, and that anytime a person does even the smallest thing, it is as if a stone has dropped into the pond, spreading circles of ripples further and further out, until the entire world has been changed by one tiny action.”

What is a word you learned from a book that you absolutely love?

Mine is Penultimate. A word which here means ‘second to last’. It’s the best word. I don’t know why. But I love it. And this is the book I learned it from!

Planning a read along on Instagram to get prepped for A House of Sky and Breath!

Can’t wait to rave about this book with awesome friends!

Some of my TBR for this year!

What’s on your list??

Happy New Years!

These were some of my favorite series I read in 2021.

What was your favorite read?
