(From a postgrad who thinks returning to high school is the actual definition of “Hell”)
RAD has the curriculum of a university but the structure of a High School. This means that you can specialize, choose electives, and even take on ‘mastery’ components. Rather than conferring titles or accreditation, you just get to move on to the next 'level’.
Because of this, there’s not really much sense of achievement. In normal universities you can track your progress through undergrad -> postgrad (grad cert, grad dip, masters, phd) -> postdoc -> fellowship/professorship. At RAD it’s more like you finish a course/degree, and instead you just enter Sophomore 2 Electric Boogaloo. It sucks.
I’m not convinced that Lucifer, Diavolo, or Barbatos even attend classes. Diavolo for sure is a student in name only - attending classes that interest him and only when he’s bored. But even then, I think Barbatos and Lucifer keep him busy enough that he doesn’t really get the option.
Every demonhas to be enrolled in and attend RAD. It’s actually Diavolo’s system of governance. “Student Council President” in this case really is equivalent to “King.”
(He got the idea from watching way too many teen dramas. It’s honestly the evilest thing he’s done - turning the hierarchy of hell into a facsimile of every human’s worst nightmare).
The student council is basically a 1:1 of a king’s council. The Avatars are all given appropriate acknowledgement and respect for their stations. Human/Angel/Reaper exchange students are kind of like ambassadors/representatives.
This results in a much higher literacy rate in demons! As well as more competent and qualified forces of hell! All this, plus an increased divide amongst the 'gifted’ demons and those who struggle resulting in envy, feelings of negativity, and a sense that no matter what you do, you’ll never measure up. Win win win.
The teachers? They have more power than your average Little D. They’re typically demons of an older 'generation’ - advisors and helpers of the old King. But there are a few younger ones - masters of their craft that Diavolo has chosen to recognize and elevate.
Don’t get me started on the staff politics. If you’ve had the misfortune of working in a high school you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about. But it’s that plusthe insane power plays of the higher academic world. Except bloodshed isn’t illegal and you can curse your rivals.
Student cliques exist. And they’re vicious.Literally. Don’t sit at the wrong table or you’ll be eaten.
