Basics for Young People to Know About Health Insurance

Basics for Young People to Know About Health Insurance

Health insurance is essential in case you ever need medical attention. It prevents you from paying for expensive services, such as hospitalization and surgery. Many people are provided coverage through their work or others by the government. However, understanding how this system works can be confusing for younger adults. So, here are a few basics you should know.

1. How to Get Coverage

Airlines should be legally required to pay flight attendants for all the hours the work, which (correct me if I’m wrong) should mean from when they arrive at the gate to when they hand the plane over to the next crew or to the cleaning staff or whoever. Part of why they aren’t is to cheat on FAA rules about rest periods.

Also.

Treat flight attendants with absolute respect. Many years ago, I was flying from DC to Chicago. This was years ago, and they didn’t have all the radar systems they do now. The plane hit a huge unexpected air pocket and dropped like a stone.

Right at the moment the poor flight attendant was pouring me a glass of coca cola. (It couldn’t have been water, nope). Needless to say, the coke went all over me.

She was embarrassed…but she was also scared. She was afraid I was going to complain and get her into trouble.

I told her not to worry about it several times, it wasn’t her fault. I didn’t complain. There was nothing the poor woman could do about it, but I’m betting plenty of people would have given her hell.

Flight attendants are not waiters in the sky.

They have to be qualified to administer CPR and other first aid.
They have to be able to stay calm when other people are losing their shit.

They’re responsible for making sure that the first aid kit is restocked if any of it is used.

They may have to evacuate the plane.

They have to deal with it if somebody is rowdy or drunk. They have to deal with it if somebody has a massive seizure, or a stroke, or a heart attack. Heck, sometimes people die on planes and the flight attendants have to deal with that.

Oh, and if they work international flights they might have to do all of this in more than one language.

AND they have to be waiters.

It’s a challenging job that requires physical stamina, the ability to deal with irregular sleep schedules…and they have to look like it’s all nothing, all the time.

Respect flight attendants. They do a lot more than people realize.

They should be paid from when they enter the airport. They have to spend how ever long going through security, and passengers will flag down attendents in the terminal if they have a question, so like…..

If you follow me and read my post since last year you may know that I obtained a menstrual cup some time ago. The truth is I haven’t got an occasion to try it… until now, thanks to quarantine.

I needed some time to prepare the cup and of course also prepare myself for trying it. Living in a dormitory was an obstacle for me to do it, so when I started bleeding on quarantine at home I though it was a appropriate day to insert my menstrual cup.

Quick backstory: I got my first period when I was turning 10, so according to my calculations I have used about 3360 menstrual pads till today (for almost 10 years). So continuing counting I will use at least 10080 more until I stop menstruating.

Tampons, pads and panty liners along with their packaging and individual wrapping generate more than 200,000 tonnes of waste per year, and they all contain plastic – in fact, pads are around 90% plastic!” - OrganiCup

One pad decompose in about 500 to 800 years! And burning them causes highly toxic emissions. So please consider switching to more sustainable menstrual products as:

My first period with menstrual cup:

image

Day 1 | Although I tried doing this before, it didn’t work out then. “Take your time” - I said to myself and began putting in right place. The first day of wearing a cup wasn’t the most comfortable and I wore a pad due to the insurance. I found very little blood inside the cup in the evening, which surprised me.

Articles and videos that helped me at the first day:

Also what I found helpful was medical lubricant, but to be honest I used it only at the first day. I didn’t mention it before but if you want to know, my cup is from the brand calledPerfect Cup;)

image

Day 2 | I felt really comfortable after wearing a cup at night. Also I didn’t notice any leakage. Although I think the ring was irritating me sometimes.

Day 3 | Again I felt very comfortable all day. I think the cup’s size is appropriate for me.

image

(sanitizing my cup in hot water while taking shower)

Day 4 | My bottom stomach hurt a bit, I think I put my cup a little too deep. But I reinserted it and then it was okay. In the evening I noticed that the amount of blood inside the cup was low so I decided to take a break of it and try on a cloth pad I sew before.

image

Day 5 | I stopped bleeding and after wearing a cloth pad for a night I felt a lot more pleased then after using a disposable pad.

Summing up: I loved it from the very first day! The feeling of not having a blood flood inside my pants and having any skin irritation caused by the chemicals inside the disposable pads… Absolutely stunning! Now I feel like: everyone who is menstruating should try that!

Also I have a story here: when I got my cup, I showed it to my boyfriend and he loved it and started playing with it, but when I showed it to my (women) roommates they were like “yuuuck!” and the situation was really shocking for me, because before I hadn’t met anyone who would react that way on a cup…

I’ve also asked some other people what they think about menstrual cups.

  • “They are problematic and embarrassing in public toilets.”
  • “I’m afraid I can stain something while putting it out.”
  • “They are cool. Someday I’ll buy one!”
  • “At least you don’t waste money on tampons and pads.”
  • “I think it is a good way to reduce your waste.”
  • “They seem to be more comfortable than tampons.”
  • “In my point of view they aren’t made for me, but I’m not sure, because it seems to be better and more comfortable solution.”

And what is your opinion about menstrual cups?

I will finish with mentioning that there is nothing to be ashamed with talking about your period or using a menstrual cup! Love your body and accept everything about it! You are beautiful and worthy! ♥ ♥ ♥

Mom: You don’t shave your legs OR your armpits?
Me: No
Mom: Are you serious? Personal hygiene!
Me: Yeah? Personal hygiene? Then make my brother shave too.

That fact that this is actually getting notes is so beautiful, man.

I actually told this to my mom when she told me to shave. She said that it was different for my older brother to grow hair because he was a boy
I just kinda stared at her for a minute

shaving is not hygienic it’s cosmetic

I cant shave down to the skin bc it actually hurts my skin but even with trimmed body hair, i STILL get the ~~personal hygiene~~ bullshit. I am clean, my body hair is clean, there’s nothing gross about clean hair. To reiterate:

Shaving is not hygiene, it’s cosmetic

Hair isn’t dirty just because it isn’t typical for your gender.

I just gave up on shaving because it takes way too long and I dont care enough to do it anyway.

Hair is typical for my gender– maybe not in The quantities men have it, but hair is typical.

Men who don’t think women are supposed to have any body hair and that it’s *unnatural* if they do need to take a biology class. Or at least, ask themselves why pretty much every woman they know *has body hair they typically shave off* if women’s bodies aren’t designed to produce those hairs in the first place. Shaving wouldn’t be *necessary* for most of the population if our expectation for women to not have body hair was based on biology rather than social stigma.

That being said, armpit hairs can get stinky *because they are trapping bacteria* so regardless of your gender, consider keeping those hairs trimmed down, because the longer they are, the more they can hang on to.

Shaving hair (as opposed to trimming like lynati suggests for armpit hair and which, living in Florida where it’s hot as balls and also HUMID, I heartily agree with, I literally do this with mine via a “bikini line” trimmer) has actually been noted to be a thing that can increase risk of infections, due to the abrasions and lacerations and overall irritation that result EVEN IF you do it right.

Not just skin infections, either: anything that damages skin like that creates openings, often ones you can’t visually see or feel enough to notice, and which opportunistic microbes can sneak in through, sometimes even entering the bloodstream.

In fact, IIRC not long ago doctors were warning people that the now-common Western practice of shaving off pubic hair seems to have been part of the reason for an increase in recent years ofalmost every single type of STD/STI.

Literally the only infection it didn’t seem to increase the rate or risk of (and admittedly decreased) was crabs, aka pubic lice, because you know, those hang onto hair so obviously removing the hair removes those?

Everything ELSE though, such as gonorrhea and syphilis and HIV… has a higher transmission rate among people with shaved hair Down There. Because of the way the skin is damaged by even capable shaving.

What this means is shaving Down There, at least, is not a “hygienic” decision any more than shaving your whole head would be.

As in: uhhh I guess if you’re super anxious about hair-clinging parasites in specific and ONLY hair-clinging parasites in specific, or if you just reeeeally want the aesthetic, feel free, but the result of shaving any body hair at all is going to be you putting yourself at slightly higher risk for infections from cuts and irritation, cuts and irritation you might not even realize you have.

For the record: yes, I’m aware there’s things like Nair that remove body hair chemically in the form of a cream instead of “shaving”. (Not everybody is aware of it, but some people are and they may think of it)

I’m not sure I rec those either; I’ve tried them before and in addition to smelling awful, in addition to the risk of damaging finger or toe nails if you get it on them without immediately rinsing (OH GOD DO NOT EVEN ASK), there’s the fact that you have to wash it off within a certain timeframe or it can cause CHEMICAL BURNS and oh also it can do that ANYWAY even if it’s “bikini line” product or if you have sensitive skin and/or you try to use even the “bikini line” stuff Down There or in armpits (protip: turns out something not meant for faces should not be used on those three spots either! HAHA PLEASE LEARN FROM MY MISTAKE)

Also I suspect that rinsing it down the drain (the easiest/best way to clear off Nair or the like from your skin) is……not the best for the environment? Given it’s literally a chemical meant to break down keratin protein?? (Idk! ask a chemist??). I also have no idea if it’s genuinely less dangerous or “abrasive” than shaving; it…seemed to be when it worked for me? On legs, anyway? But you’d have to ask a dermatologist.

It is, however, a pain in the ass and takes a LOT longer than shaving or trimming anyway. So, yeah. I fully support anybody who doesn’t want to use ANY of that.

hoe-playground:

Okay, so, I’ve seen mad tips advocating the use of coconut oil as lube. Honestly, I would not suggest that.

For starters, coconut oil breaks down condoms. Let’s be real, babes, if you have multiple partners, or your partner has multiple partners, you should be using condoms. STIs and STDs are real.

Second, coconut oil is a comedogenic oil which means it tends to clog pores and cause blackheads. This is fine when you use it on your body, but sensitive areas like your face or vagina aren’t places you want clogged pores. Clogged pores on your vagina can cause bumps and ingrown hairs.

Third, coconut oil is antibacterial. That’s excellent for cleaning cuts and burns, but not to vaginal health. Your vagina is self cleaning and using anything antibacterial in, on, or around it will disrupt the good bacteria there. This means yeast infections galore, and who wants that?

As with all hoe tips, this is just personal opinion and advice. If it works for you, there’s no need to change. But if you’ve just added coconut oil to your kitty’s routine and you’re finding some things are out of whack, it’s probably not for you.

Stay positive!

Since many of our female followers seem to be concerned about the way they smell, I did some research on how to wash the vagina properly. I found this website to be very good. With one exception: They recommend using soap, but i would advise against doing so. For more information on that check out this website.I hope this was helpful :)

Just thinking about how hygiene is so tied to social norms and expectations, especially when you’re supposed to be learning about it as a kid and hitting hygiene milestones I guess. Like, my mum washed my hair for me until I was 10? 11? I might even have already got my period, I can’t remember, but it was sometime around then. And again idk if this was on my parents for not telling me or if this is generally supposed to be something neurotypical kids pick up on their own when they’re younger, but I sure didn’t pick up on it until then. Same with the showering thing, had to pick up on it by people talking to me about how gross people who don’t shower often enough were (when I was there internally being like “but I only shower once a week, although I masked enough to know not to say that out loud lol).

I think some of it was lack of education/support about hygiene from my parents/school but I think that lack of education and support is there because parents and teachers assume kids are allistic, neurotypical and abled and will a. naturally pick up on it and b. not struggle with it at all (even though doing things differently than you’re used to can be hard for any kid)

Pamper 101 - Stepping up your hygiene game

This post is ALL about hygiene and self care. It covers pretty much everything you could think of. ENJOY.

SHOWER

Exfoliating - Ok so for shower care you should be exfoliating 2-3 times a week. It’s really up to you what you use to exfoliate. Exfoliating should be done regularly it keeps your skin nice and smooth as well as getting rid of bumps and marks. To exfoliate you can invest in exfoliating gloves or a body scrub. You can even make a homemade body scrub out of olive oil and sugar/salt. Another bath essential for me is my back scrubber. I know some people struggle with body acne and back acne and I heard that really helps. It’s just nice to feel that your whole body is smooth. Another exfoliating tool are exfoliating scrub bars. Lush has a lot of nice ones, I recommend the Scrubee. These are good because they exfoliate and moisturise at the same time!

  • If you’re using a loofah or any kind of sponge remember they need to be replaced and you should do so every two months or more often if you would like.
  • Find a body wash that actually works for your skin. If you have dry skin you may want a creamy, moisturising soap. If you have sensitive skin you would want to use a more natural soap. Find what works for you!
  • Make sure you’re washing everything, that means your booty crack, behind your ears, your coochie, your belly button. All of it!

SHAVING

  • If you exfoliate before and after you shave you will feel super smooth and soft after!
  • Invest in a good shaving cream, lush also has a nice one. If you’re out of shaving cream you can always use conditioner. Leaves your skin super smooth.
  • Use a razor with multiple blades, men’s razors are very good for a nice clean shave.
  • Remember to rinse your razor!!
  • There is no need to press hard, be gentle when you shave.

AFTER SHOWER CARE

Skin (body) - Ok so if you have dry skin like me you want to moisturise as soon as you come out of the shower. On top of my regular body lotion I use a body oil as well. The name of the body oil I use is Palmer’s Moisturising Body Oil. This smells so good and goes amazing with my cocoa butter lotion. I would also recommend almond oil. This is such a good addition especially for summer because it leaves you nice and glowy!

Perfume - Ok so this is important for building your signature scent. People always ask me how to do it but it’s really so simple. Your signature scent is going to be a combination of your body lotion, perfume and or body mist. I personally use cocoa butter scented lotion. A good scent to go along with this could be vanilla. If you use a floral perfume you would want a body lotion that smells fresh or fruity.

Skin Care - A good thing to invest in is skin care especially this summer who wouldn’t want to look fresh and glowy. Set days that you’re going to do face masks. I write down my skin care routine on my mini white board so I remember what days I do what, I also find it motivates me when I’m lazy. You can always make your own face masks or buy them. I always think the more natural the better but there are some shop bought ones I like. Spend some time and do some research to find the best mask for your skin. Another thing to buy is eye gel masks. These are so nice I always feel so much brighter after I use them. One more thing I would recommend is keeping a face mist with you. You can buy one or make your own. I love using rose water I spray my face with it literally every five seconds lmao! It also smells amazing and keeps you looking nice and fresh!

Feet - When it comes to looking after your feet it really depends on what your normal routine is. It’s always nice to invest in yourself and go to get your nails done but you can also take care of your feet from home! For your at home foot care you can get a small tub and soak your feet in warm water (I like to add essential oils too). Then after they’ve been soaked I grab my pumice stone which is a great investment, it keeps your feet super smooth. I would recommend buying a foot file of some sort. Another thing to invest in is a cuticle oil this is good for both your toes and fingernails. Then when I’ve soaked and dried I use my foot cream. Now this is obviously a little extra you can use a regular cream but a speacial cream for your feet is a good buy. I use the Soap and Glory foot cream.

HAIR

  • Ok so you should make an effort to deep condition once a week. If you don’t have a deep conditioner you can make one with conditioner and a variety of oils mixed together. Twist your hair up and throw on a shower cap and do some chores. If anyone wants a recommendation I use the Aunt Jackies in control conditioner.
  • Buy some oils for your hair, here’s a quick breakdown of what oils do what.
  • Sealants - this means you apply after you have moisturised your hair, these oils seal in moisture!

- Peppermint Oil: stimulates the scalp and increases hair growth. (apply to scalp or add to your shampoo)

- Olive Oil: promotes scalp health, good for hair growth and keeps hair soft and shiny. sealant

- Jojoba Oil: encourages hair regrowth and moisturises hair! Eliminates frizz and adds shine. sealant

- Acocado Oil: moisturises, repairs and strengthens hair. Is good for penetrating the hair shaft so it’s great for moisture. Contains vitamin D so it’s good for the generation of new hair follicles. sealant

- Argan Oil: high in vitamin E, good for dry scalp and dandruff. Keeps hair protected from damage. sealant

- Jamaican Black Castor Oil: increases blood criculation to the scalp and encourages hair growth. Balances the pH of your scalp. Stops scalp infections, inflammation and dandruff. Makes your hair stronger and replenishes natural oils in your hair.

  • Make time to do a hot oil treatment if your hair is feeling dry
  • Massage your scalp and oil it during the week.
  • Make sure to moisturise the ends of your hair, this is how you retain length!
  • Wrap your hair, wear a bonnet or invest in silk pillow cases.
  • Buy silk scrunchies or hair bands that are gentle on your hair.
  • Replace your brushes when they get old and crusty lol!
  • Remember to dust your ends. You can do this at home when you see single strand knots and remember to go and get a trim when you feel like your hair needs it. Listen to your hair!
  • Be consistent! The reason you’re not seeing growth could be because you’re not sticking to a routine. When you find products that work keep using them. Never skip a wash day and deep condition weekly!

PERIOD

Ok so I feel like sometimes people shy away from talking about hygiene when we’re on our period but it’s important and nothing to be embarrassed of!

  • I recommend downloading a period app if you don’t have one. There are so many different kinds that help you keep track of cravings, cramps, skin care and more.
  • Whether you’re using a pad or tampon they need to be changed regularly. This will keep you smelling fresh and keep your kitty healthy.
  • Carry feminine wipes with you but make sure they’re as natural as possible. I heard that the brand Honeypot is very good and is also black owned!
  • Also don’t use scented pads or anything make sure the pads you’re using are also as natural as possible.
  • When you’re on your period drink lots of water. I’ve noticed when I’m on my period and I’m drinking lots of water it made my period easier to deal with, mine usually lasts about 7 days and is super heavy but it’s started to become shorter and lighter.
  • I’ve also heard that taking cranberry pills after your period really helps if you’re noticing any odour so I recommend that too.

YOUR KITTY

  • Ok so when it comes to keeping your kitty clean and healthy I’m gonna start off with saying drink ya water! I know I say this all the time but seriously it helps!
  • Stop wearing underwear all the time let your coochie breathe. I also recommend sleeping naked it’s good for you.
  • Wear cotton underwear.
  • Discharge is absolutely normal. If you notice your discharge has a weird smell or colour then there is probably an issue and you should head to your doctor. Discharge is often clear/milky in colour and is like mucus or egg whites. You can also use your period app to track what discharge is normal. For example when you’re ovulating you’re likely to get discharge and before your period.
  • If you’re noticing any odour drink more water and change your diet. Start to eat more fruits and grab that cranberry juice. If you don’t like cranberry juice there are pills you can take.
  • You should not be using any old body wash to clean your coochie. It’s very sensitive and this can throw off your pH balance. If you choose to use soap which you don’t have to then pick a natural one that is specifically for down there. You can also just use warm water it’s a personal choice!
  • Don’t just use any lotion on your coochie or around that area either. I recommend baby oil.

EXTRAS

  • Bring your mask and hand sanitizer with you at all times. Please stay safe!
  • Carry around hand cream, nobody wants dry ashy hands lol.
  • Always carry lip balm/gloss.
  • Carry a bottle of water with you whenever you go out.
  • Carry deodorant and feminine wipes so you can freshen up during the day.
  • Always clean your phone with antibacterial wipes at the end of the day.
  • Remember to brush your tongue, floss and use mouth wash. On top of that always carry gum or mints with you.
  • Wash your makeup brushes! Seriously if you wear makeup daily or often wash them at the end of the week and if you need to then replace them.
  • When you’re not wearing acrylics make sure your nails are cut and shaped. Also apply cuticle oil to keep them healthy.
  • LIP SCRUBS. I love them sm they always keep my lips super soft and pink. I love the bubblegum lip scrub from Lush.

OKAY SO THATS IT. This may be updated later because there’s so much more. Send me ideas for more posts!

whatsanapocalae:

neopets-slut:

Please remember that Lush is a fair trade company. This means that all they pay ALL of their workers a livable amount, and don’t take advantage of workers and harvesters in third world countries like many brands do. They test none of their products on animals as well.

Please keep these things in mind! Just know there is a reason that they cannot sell their bath bombs for 99 cents each. Doing so would mean that hard workers are being under paid.

other reasons it’s expensive:

  • constant checks on their resources - They will drop any company that they are partnered with if they learn that they are gathering ingredients in an inhumane way, harming the environment, or puts their people at risk
  • charity work - if you’ve ever heard of Charity Pot, it’s called such because 100% of the cost (not proceeds) go to charity. It’s not what’s left over after they’ve paid the workers or bought the ingredients, it’s every single cent.
  • kitchens instead of factories - They dont have a big warehouse of stock. They don’t have processing plants. What they have are buildings with industrial kitchen equipment, where all products are made by hand.
  • fighting animal testing - a lot of companies say that they dont do animal testing, but they don’t do anything to prevent animal testing and may use ingredients sourced from animal testing. Lush leads protests, creates bills, and spreads information, as well as only work with those who don’t use animal testing, in order to fight the system
  • helping their sources- If they find out that something is wrong with one of their companies, they’ll do what they can to fix it. That means, if something is broken, they will fix it, even though it’s just someone that they’re partnered with.
  • delicate products - everything they sell has an expiration date, because it’s all made out of fresh ingredients and they use as little preservatives and unnatural things as they can. That and bathbombs break, all the time. They can’t sell it if it has any damage larger than a dime.

I have been experimenting combining two or more colours in painting my nails to make it less too common and show a bit of my quirkiness. I gathered all my nail polishes and ended up combining two of them - Sally Hansen’s Berry Important and Mauve Along.

My normal nail paints is either a plain natural colour for everyday wear or something more striking and bright on spring and summer seasons. Good thing I’ve been having spare times lately to explore a bit of my creativity through trying out different things.

(L-R) Sally Hansen Diamond Shine Base and Top Coat, Dashing Diva Cuticle Nectar, Sally Hansen Berry Important 543, Sally Hansen Mauve Along 374 and The Face Shop Nail Dot Pen (white).

I believe a nail art should be suitable to the shape and length of the nail because some arts require a lot of space especially those with intricate details. Also, the capability of the one doing it should be taken in consideration.

In my case, I do it to myself rather than going to a salon and spend over AU$20 just for a manicure + depending on the type of nail polish I have chosen. That’s just too expensive! I’m so glad my mom taught me how to do my own manicure since I was 11 years old. This way, I’m certain that my tools are sanitised and very personal unlike going to a salon and sharing the same tools with other people. It’s one of my pet peeves >.> *health conscious*

I like keeping my nails as short as possible for convenience in cooking/baking, doing house chores, working with my hands and spending hours in front of the computer. So, for my short nails I have chosen the V-style 2-colour combination (I just made up that term by the way *LOL*) to make it appear longer, not too young for my age of 24, and still work appropriate for my day job.

My Manicure Kit: (L-R) 4-Step Buffering Block, Sally Hansen Instant Cuticle Remover, nail brush, emery board, cuticle pusher and a nipper (which is not in the picture *oopsie*) ^^;

My step-by-step process:

Step 1: A manicure. It’s very important to clean your nails first before applying nail polish to ensure that your hands are bacteria-free from all the  work you’ve done in a week. This step includes buffering your nails and removing excess cuticles.

Step 2: I applied the base coat to protect and avoid my nails from turning yellow after applying nail polish. I believe this is an important step as well especially if you’re the type of person who does not go out of the house with bare nails. I used Sally Hansen’s Diamond Shine that also provide stronger nails. Win-win isn’t it?

Step 3: I applied my base colours alternately. Sally Hansen Berry Important on my ring and index fingers, then Sally Hansen Mauve Along for the rest of the fingers. I’ve already worn bright red last week so I wanted to tone down on the red this week. ^^

Step 4: Let it dry. If there’s one thing I learned from applying nail polish, it is “patience is key” to a perfect finish. I’m usually the type of person who jumps from one activity to another - I get bored easily. (Must be a gemini’s thing. >.>) Thus, I end up with scratches or fingerprints on my nails most of the time.

Step 5: Applying the second colour in V-shape. Cover the nails using plain sticker strips or masking tape and leave the part of the second colour to be painted on. This way, it’s easy to apply the second colour! I applied Berry on top of Mauve and the other way around. Let it dry again.

Step 6: Cover imperfections between the two colours by applying white dots using The Face Shop’s Nail Dot Pen in white. I got this before I left the Philippines in 2012 for Php 150.00 in their Glorietta branch and still it’s not dried up at all. Talk about getting your money’s worth. :D

Again, let it dry. This time, since the white paint is a bit 3D, it requires more time to dry up.

Step 7: Apply top coat to protect the nail art. I used Sally Hansen’s Diamond Shine again since it serves as both base and top coat! It promises not only to provide high-gloss, but also it’s quick drying, it prevents your nails from chipping and extends the wear of your nail colour up to 10 days! Isn’t it a bargain?

Finally, the last and my most favourite step that most people skip.

Step 7: Apply cuticle nectar. Most people would apply hand lotion, which is totally fine but this formula is especially designed to make your cuticle moisturised and healthy with that salon finish look. *wink wink* I got mine at Dashing Diva in Greenbelt 5 branch before I left the Philippines. *LOL* I hoarded a lot of skin care products before I left.

And that’s it. It only took me 1 ½ hours to do everything, which is already a quick one for me. >.> Last week, I spent 3 hours using one nail polish. Haha! Amateur~

Toodles~

Submarine shower

Life on a nuclear submarine is life under some pretty intense constraints. For one, there’s not naturally any fresh water and any time you use it the waste water builds up in the tanks and then has to be expelled, and when you expel it that makes noise, and because nuclear subs don’t want to give away their location they do their best to minimise the number of times they have to do that. That means taking care of all fresh water.

The other reason to take care of fresh water usage is that they have to make it the whole time — any fresh water for cooking, cleaning or drinking has to be made from sea water. If you drink a glass of water on a nuclear submarine you’re probably drinking the most expensive glass of water you’ll ever drink because it’s been desalinated by a nuclear submarine.

Hence the submarine shower with a total of 20 seconds of water: 10s with the water on, turn it off while you soap and scrub and finish with 10s of rinsing. That’s it. For me it’s a nice reframe in how much you actually need when you take a shower, and it still works. So if you fancy saving water and energy you could give it a try.
