Ok, time to share some scenes I would’ve liked to add to Encanto’s story to add some extra kick to the angst of familial pressures and not feeling good enough.
I’ll start with Luisa’s music scene and how off-putting it felt for me. The other music scenes feel treated with respect, taken seriously, showing valuable imagery to get their emotional points across. Luisa’s to me felt like Disney needed its quota of ‘quirkiness’ and so they have our girl sing about her understandable and heartbreaking problem with being labeled the 'strong’ sister all while she smiles and dances with donkeys. Idk it just felt jarring to me and like such a missed opportunity for some stuff that could’ve hit me harder.
Like maybe they could’ve kept her 8n reality as she sang, doing the jobs around town as more people keep piling on her, and we progressively see her getting more and more tired, her reflexes getting slower to reacting to stuff (like a runaway cart coming their way). When she starts talking about wanting 'simple pleasures and relaxation’ maybe her staring longingly at people her age hanging out, drinking, implying her isolation because her responsibilities keep her from having a social life. And as the music goes to its emotional drop, we see it cut from that to a memory of a time as kids where both her and her sibling (maybe Mirabel) got hurt as kids but the attention is on Mirabel and treating her while Luisa can only pick herself up and keep running to go help Abuela, trying not to cry as little her runs and goes by flashes of other memories of her doing work.
And then she’s back in the real world, with renewed vigor finishing the jobs she was getting tired of, but with an anger behind her movements. The song ends as she shuts the door behind the last donkey with a harsh slam, and her shoulders quake not wanting to face Mirabel.
Mirabel I felt could’ve had a bit more to do with Luisa dropping her guard too, instead of Luisa hugging her first and telling her that maybe she has a problem. Something softer. Mirabel slowly hugging Luisa after the song as Luisa flinches and tries not to cry. Mirabel reassuring her that she’s human and that she deserves a break and Luisa taking in a sharp breath and we see her MELT into her little sister’s embrace. That’d be powerful, man.

Needless to say that you jumped when your girlfriend barged into your room obviously on the verge of breaking down. You quickly shut your book and looked up at her from your bed “What do you mean you’re loosing your gift Mi Vida?”
Luisa let out a shuddering sigh and braced herself for what she was about to admit to her girlfriend “the magic is dying, and casita is about to break, I can’t lift the piano anymore and everyone is looking at me to be the strong one” you nodded, showing that you understand and gestured to your bed
“Mi Vida come lie down with me”Luisa did what her girlfriend asked her to do and held back her tears
“If you look up at the sky during the night, what do you see?” You asked your girlfriend “stars” she muttered whilst turning on the bed to look you in the eyes “yeah that’s right. Stars. And did you know that stars are actually either little burning fire balls, or their own galaxy?”
“No I didn’t”
“Luisa, your gift may make you physically strong, but your family is what makes you stronger. If you’re feeling the burdens of that then you need to tell them or else you’ll implode from all the thoughts and pressure” you faced her, and started to tuck some of her hair behind her ear.
“I’ll love you, gift or no gift for the rest of my life, I want you to share these burdens with me. I want us to become strong together”
Luisa pulled her girlfriend into a hug that just about showed how the madrigal was feeling ‘she accepts my flaws, and she wants to share the heavy load I have- she loves me’ is all that went through Lusia’s head as she tilted your head up

It was a busy day in Encanto, the sun was beaming down on the villagers and they went about their daily chores, getting some assistance from Luisa when necessary, but still scurrying around to get things done.
Despite it only being lunchtime, there was already a line next to Julieta’s meal table and within that line stood a small six year old girl, dressed in a light blue skirt and a typical white short sleeved blouse, her hair done up in a bun to keep it out of her face, and in her hand she held a stick. Now you’re probably wondering why the stick? It would be because Poppy Diàz is blind. The six year old had arrived to the the village 2 years prior with her parents from England, the Diàz family had never disclosed why they moved , but nobody seemed to care.
Poppy had been born blind and her parents had cried, because they knew their little girl would struggle in the world, but as time went on they could see that she was stubborn, and they knew she would be ok.
Now when they had moved to the village, Poppy had been 4 years old and very curious. She was so curious that when her Mamí had put her down quickly to grab a few items from a stall, she had scurried away towards a loud vibration that had peaked the girls interest-
This vibration happened to be Luisa, helping her family set up a picnic and toppling over a tree for fire wood, and as Luisa had gotten ready to start heading back to the Madrigals she noticed a small baby crawling around seemingly without direction.
“Awe hello little one” Luisa said gently dropping the firewood she had collected, making sure none of it would roll and possibly hurt the child she had just found, “what are you doing out here? Where’s your mama?”
Poppy had continued to crawl around, slightly confusing Luisa, as when baby’s hear a voice normally they stop what they’re doing and look at the person talking- or was that just something Mirabel and Camilo do?
Luisa looked around and figured that she would take the baby girl- or what looked like a baby girl- to her Tia Pepa and come back for the firewood then take the girl into Encanto in hopes to find the child’s actual parents.
Luisa slowly approached the 4 year old and gently as she could be picked the baby up, making sure that her grip wasn’t too strong as she still wants the best with controlling her powers. Poppy had stilled after being picked up, but continued to look around quite unsure of what was going on, these hands didn’t feel like her mamas but they didn’t feel uncomfortable either, so Poppy had decided to not make a fuss and see how this went.
While Poppy had been thinking to herself, Luisa had started back to her family, hoping that her mother would help her find the parents so she wouldn’t have to explain how she found the child. As Luisa reached the point where her family were talking and playing she realized that the baby had fallen asleep in her arms.
“Ah Luisa! You’re back! How were the woods” her Abula Alma hacked over her shoulders whilst cooing at an adorable Mirabel who had just handed her a rock “It was fine Abula but I found something erm rather interesting” Luisa replied whilst walking towards where the group where all sat down.
“What did you find cariño- dios mio! Where did you get a baby?”
Ok so I’m gonna stop there because I have to wake up early tomorrow , the next three chapters will just be introducing the families to one another and setting up the back story! Ok

Bruno Headcanons That Live In Here Rent-Free
- Do I think Bruno is asexual? Yes. Do I think he’s the clumsiest romantic on the planet Earth anyways? Also yes.
- Bruno is good at parkour, yes. But the second he sees someone he likes, that goes directly out the window, goodbye skills
- I can vividly and PHYSICALLY envision Bruno leaning in a doorway trying to talk to his crush and like slipping and stumbling forward a little and catching himself and trying to laugh it off
- Bruno is definitely the kind of guy to hear about or deduce some small interest you’ve got and then run with it,,, romantic or otherwise, doesn’t matter, if he thinks you’re cool he’ll collect things for you like a bird
- Like say you show Bruno a cool rock you found one time?? Expect to find a bunch more cool rocks just popping up, like just in your bag or on your windowsill or something; he might give them directly but he’s way more likely to just leave them for you to find
- If someone did something similar for him he would probably try really really hard not to cry and only kind of succeed
- He’s really happy to be here
- If you directly invite him to something, to his face, he’ll probably go; if you send him a card he’ll probably assume it was a politeness thing and will only go if his sisters do some convincing
- After living in the walls for so long, he’s developed a habit of having a stash of Julieta’s food just in case
- In case of what, it’s not clear even he knows, but just in case
- For the first couple months he’s back, if he’s been observing a conversation without participating for a while, Bruno will occasionally get a little startled when someone talks to him
- Sometimes he just kind of forgets that he’s back now and he’s part of the conversation
- I don’t know, maybe these aren’t super popular headcanons??? They’re just my personal little ones
- I also headcanon that Bruno and Luisa get to be unexpectedly close
- I don’t really have a justification for that?? I can just see it
- Also this isn’t related to Bruno but I can totally see Camilo turning into Dolores to take some snacks even though she’s already had some and then Dolores going in for seconds and when they’re like “hey didnt you already have snacks” she’s like “oh no that was Camilo, I haven’t had any yet” and nobody questions it and they’re working together so they both get to have more than they’re supposed to lol
