I’ve been trying to be a good person and keep up with life drawing the past few months! It’s really a mugh needed exercise as I’ve been working full time in 3d for more than a year now, I really need to loosen my lines ! :)

How to draw bodies and poses with overlapping.
In my art classes we have been talking about how having empathy and being vulnerable can help us become better artists and storytellers.
So putting ourselves into the shoes of the model/person we draw — trying to feel how they feel physically and emotionally—- increases the likelihood of the story and emotion coming across in the drawing.
(hopefully the way I wrote that makes sense)
I believe that empathy and vulnerability are a key part of living a life of substance and meaning, so it has been cool to see how that idea can bring more substance into creativity as well.

Some rough afternoon practice sketches.
the problem with doing these digitally is that when i do these traditionally i use the side of the charcoal instead of the tip. at least it’s not messy
i forgot warmups were a thing
Interesting how your non-dominant hand moves places you don’t expect and refuses to move in places you also don’t expect. This was a super fun exercise! I totally recommend this exercise, it’s easing muscle tension in my shoulders in beautiful ways.
I feel like the forms somehow come out simultaneously closer to how I want and much different. Perhaps it’s closer to how I feel?
